Still no Charlesworth or Lace. It really is a side held together by old pad straps and a whiff of deepheat If we bat first defending may be an issue, with the toss we could chase and spin friendly Oval play into our spinners as home side push too hard. The toss crucial to Glos chances. Lost toss. Having to set and defend. Tom Price for Shaw. Blacky and Pollard as umps. Not looking good, and it’s only ten to eleven.

Oh well, may have been different with toss. Good fight though over recent weeks.

So we come to the Divisional stage
I am in position at the Ashley Down road end
It’s very cloudy but feels sort of nice
Glos without Payne and shaw for this key fixture so light on seam bowling

All going tits up at Somerset!! Gloucestershire big uphill battle for a draw. And Somerset too, is that a surprise? Both clubs had the toss, I said above, a good toss too lose. It’s obvious what winner would do, but it’s allowed side batting first to put scoreboard pressure on, without any of the conditions changing for the better. With their only other real challenger Lancashire getting no better than a draw, this week could be a missed opportunity for Somerset if they lose.

all out for 107 in just 38 overs!! that is a follow on and judging by the first innings ,will be lucky to survive until Saturday lunch nil points there!! just when you want a snowstorm to appear!!

Gloucestershire had much better day, all results possible on last day. What is this Somerset defeat down to, how big a blow is just 2 points with main rivals Lancs also struggling?

Somerset were poor from teatime on day 1. Not sure the conditions changed too much. It was cold, overcast for all 3 days and without Gregory and Overton we didn’t have the bowlers to bowl them out and our batsmen didn’t bat as well as Nottingham. We were pretty rubbish and deserved all we got, 2 points!! I’m trying to think of some plus points and I’m struggling. Lammonby batted well today, Leach and De Lange gave us some entertainment at the end but that apart nothing good. And some gallows humour down on Gimblett Hill! Move on to Yorkshire away In Scarborough. We really can’t play as badly again. Surely!!

Surely!! as you say conditions didn't seem to be much different throughout, batting application seems to be the downfall, as if it were a case of carry on as before, but too long between red ball games and the timing is way out ,at least for SCC anyway!! Scarborough could be tricky if its cold and damp ,a bit of serious chit chat and heads down with a more positive mindset

Scarborough could be tricky if its cold and damp ,a bit of serious chit chat and heads down with a more positive mindset There is a heatwave in Scarborough for the next match, so plenty of runs and 4 days of cricket. With Yorkshire about to win their first match will be proper crowd - proper match. If you are half tempted to go and watch it, do it! You will find the exchange rate generous between here and God’s Own Country, £5 will get you pork pie chips and gravy, pint of bitter, pint of tea, and a tonne of monkey nuts. A winner from the Somerset v Lancashire match I still think lifts the title.

A Yorkshire "heatwave", should be about the equivalent of what we have just endured in Somersert!! .. anyway my passport has less than 6 months life on it!!

If Yorkshire win then at the end of this round the two teams them and Nottinghamshire with the least points will have won to close the gap. It will have made it more exciting. Nothing clear. Overton might bowl in last match but members were told on Monday that Lewis Gregory won’t bowl again this season. It’s a big handicap to overcome.

An amazing win for Gloucestershire.
The new ball did a lot. The two times this was exploited was low scores, the two times it was seen off, large scores. This was achieved without Payne or Shaw, and Worrall gone.
I was wrong about Tom Price, he bowled brilliant in this match.

It was a good win for Gloucestershire. But I’m struggling to see what divisions 2 and 3 get out of the next month. Apart from cricket for the membership which is important for some counties. Are they playing in division 2 for the 3 or 4 places that will help them be in Division 1 next season if the ECB decide to revert to a two divisional Championship next season? I’m presuming that the make up may be 10 teams in division 1 and 8 teams in division 2 as they intended. I think. Or will they do a complete about turn and revert to what it would have been at the end of the 2019 season? Will be very interesting I think. Somerset will be ok either way but Gloucestershire may need to finish in the top 3 or 4 depending on which option is decided upon.

Agreed - and if there is something in it then it hasn't publicised very well!
