Now the Nationals are enjoying themselves. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10129721/Joey-Barton-NOT-face-FA-sanction-comparing-Bristol-Rovers-poor-display-Holocaust.html “ As one of two professional football clubs that represent the city, it is saddening that neither the football club or the manager Joey Barton has issued an unequivocal apology “ It might be this story is starting to cause Bristol Rovers a bit of reputation damage now? A Bristol city mate has just sent me a Bristol Rovers Community Christmas Tree with a swastika on top 😕 Is the slowness of club/manager to say “sorry if caused offence” prolonging the damage? To simply say that to try and close it off is hardly admitting guilt is it?

To be really fair, I didn’t have a huge gripe against Wael for hiring Barton in the first place. I wouldn’t have done it, but you can understand people doing it, if they feel he has some philosophical football genius to unlock.
But this far too long period at the end before sacking him, like an interminable circle of hell, is very blameworthy. ☹️

But I take your point about reputational damage. UTG!

All the vultures are circling now. www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-need-grip-after-6108611At least Joey has PNGGAS still with him at the end “Sam, as much as I like your columns mate, move on. You are stirring it up and when the club needs unity, continual pointing like this does not help. What you(we) need to be doing now is concentrate on Harrogate this Saturday. JB may not be the nice boy that gets the sweets but hey we have all made errors in our lives, its just that he is in the public eye. Get onboard the GAS Bus.” At what point is support for Joey as manager no longer support for the club?

I have followed Rovers from Eastville to the Mem via Twerton and to over 100 away grounds, but like some (many?) I have not been able to bring myself to go to games now that Barton is the manager. I have a season ticket, bought at the time to support the club, and live over 100 miles away from Bristol.
I was almost happy to be a club supporter and I still wear my scarf, often being taken for a Chelsea fan - yucht. But now that the club has not taken any action, along with the spineless FA, over the abhorrent latest words of Joey, can I support the club? Bristol Rovers have been dragged through the press from the Telegraph to the Daily Star.
So I find that that leaves me with just the players to follow. But even then the team selection and tactics are controlled by a mismanager with a bad results record.
Occasionally I have pondered walking away and going to other clubs, but as a born and bred Bristolian I just can’t do it (there is no other option!)

I'm 130 miles from the Mem - been saving a lot of petrol. You do have an option though. Take in some action lower down the pyramid (tier 7 is the highest I've seen over the last 3 months). I'm really enjoying my Saturday afternoons going to Clubs that are really a part of the local community.

Denis Dunford once asked me a question and just lately it has been going over and over in my head.
"Kevin, what is this man trying to do to our football club?"
At the moment all I see are negatives with nobody attempting to stop the flow of them.

Barton is a wrecking ball, he does whatever he wants, does he answer to Wael?, I have had my doubt’s since his ‘appointment’, #out of control. Barton Out.

Actually I suspect he was talking about someone later in the piece.... Regards John Malyckyj PS Neither Geoff or Denis would have allowed things to get to this current state of affairs.

It's a slow train coming, but this is still the basis for my theory that good news is not far away Anyone else got any theories why Frosty, who is reckoned to have to walk a narrow line, was so emboldened?

I do hope he is gone before the weekend, the weather is promising for Saturday and today I have pre-ordered the celebratory fireworks that hopefully I can let off on my local beach whilst enjoying a few 'sighing with relief' beers in the bar.

Enough is enough, time he went now. What turned it for you? Yeah I have just had enough of new ways of making our club look bad. He is a loose cannon who will just keep on doing these things even if we are winning. You don't see this at Rochdale or Sunderland, a manager has to think before they open their mouth. He has no filter and continues to bring poor publicity on the club. I felt the same when Luis Suarez was at Liverpool and they really needed him at the time. We don't need Barton. We can surely do so much better. I hope I am sat here in 6 months time with everything rosy and us on the brink of promotion, and this is what I cannot see.

I know quite a few people who stated he should be given time to prove he is not gobby, delusional, violent, publicity hungry, pseudo intellectual, lacking in both dignity and respect. A narcissist with anger management issues, who never shows remorse, who is self-obsessed, and will never ever take blame for anything ever. And there were quite a few people who saw all of this on February 22nd, 2021. Hey ho. We're all together now anyway.
