The explanation of how it works is good management of resources. In 2017/18 Coventry achieved promotion from League 2 to League 1 with a total spend of £ 7.6 million In 2021/22 Rovers achieved promotion from League 2 to League 1 with a total spend of £ 10.7 million In 2018/19, their first season back in League 1, Coventry achieved 8th place with a total spend of £ 8.5 million. In 2022/23, our first season back in League 1, Rovers achieved 17th place with a total spend in excess of £ 11 million. In 2019/20 Coventry were champions of League 1 with a total spend of £ 10.3 million. We are already spending over £ 11 million but JB says we need to spend more. We are completely mismanaging our resources. Which makes the constant and continual bigging up of WAQ/JB/Gorringe quite sad. Coventry are subject to the whims of Mike Ashley as their landlord - no thank you. Only recently as far as I’m aware. I expect most sky blues fans would say no thanks to MA too. The turbulence they’ve been through with grounds etc makes their achievement this year even more remarkable. Think Mark Robbins is an excellent manager and comes across as a decent human being

If you note that nobody on Gas Guzzler is writing about a subject of which you are aware, I think the onus is on you to write on Gas Guzzler about the subject. Up to you, of course, but don't moan about others not discussing something if you're not either, or you'll just look silly.

Coventry are just one team who I doubt they are developing their own training facilities nor looking to build a new stadium, Plymouth spent £3.7m on their playing budget this season, I doubt we were anywhere near that figure, looking at the squad you can't imagine any of them are earning anything like KB was rumoured to be earning in the not too distant pass. You're continued criticism of Wael/JB/TG is quite sad considering there's no obvious replacements waiting in the wings to take over if Wael ever decided to move on. If Wael/TG is mismanaging our resources it's only the former's bank balance suffering it's not costing fans money. Not sure what point you are making here Droitwich. Are you saying Argyll’s playing budget is more than ours? Wonder if anyone (Swiss perhaps?) can confirm? You do understand don’t you that the increasing losses are being capitalised against BRFC assets, and that these assets could be sold if the owner wanted to recoup them? Who is KB? Are you also saying that no-one should question the way the club is being run? Wonder if the fans at clubs like Bury, Blackpool, Scunthorpe and Yeovil thought the same too?

Fair play to your Dad refereeing further down the pyramid. It's a very tough job and not well paid. And your suggestions on improving refereeing sound eminently sensible. However this does not excuse the abuse that players and managers hand out to referees in the PL and EFL. Thuggish, bullying behaviour by managers and players DOES filter down and it is just no acceptable. Ask anyone involved in youth football. As for random, unprovoked violence perpetrated at a McDonalds - well at least Barton has never been embroiled in anything like that... oh, hang on... I agree that referees should not be abused, however, they should also be more accountable for their decisions. I believe that some youngsters will copy the way they see players behaving, however, I would hope that by the time people are mature enough to manage a team, they would be beyond the stage of imitating behaviour, and they need to own their actions. Very low to use the murder of an 18 year old boy to have a specific dig at Barton. Brilliant. You are beyond parody. "I would hope that by the time people are mature enough to manage a team, they would be beyond the stage of imitating behaviour, and they need to own their actions". Amen. You brought up the notion of violence perpetrated at McDonalds, not me.

If Wael/TG is mismanaging our resources it's only the former's bank balance suffering it's not costing fans money. The money spent on infrastructure at the training ground is capitalised so is not included in total costs. In 21/22 Plymouth spent £12 million to come 7th in League 1 while Rovers spent £ 10.7 million to come third in League 2. Plymouth’s wage bill was £ 6 million of which the greater proportion would have been for the football operation. If the ratios are the same then Rovers wage bill would be £ 5.3 million. Both clubs said they would be increasing their wage budget for 22/23. I think it’s sad that so many Gasheads have a closed mind on this subject. With an open mind and a positive outlook we should have no reservations about trying to discover how clubs like Coventry can spend less than Rovers but achieve more. And if we could solve that mystery we’d be much better placed to develop a strategy that would give all supporters, including Wael, a far greater reward for the investment we make in the club.

Do you really think that Wael & TG don't consider how they can make savings each season and it's only supporters who can help them make any savings?
When you were on the board were fans making all the financial decisions for you? I recall around that time the Supporter Club demanded to see the accounts as there were feelings the Dunfords were lining their own pockets.

The perfectly valid point is the comparison between spend and relative outcomes. Surely, we should all be interested in that?

What % did the attendances increase when we were being treated to Coughlan ball? I looked at this some time ago and didn't buy into the notion that Graham Coughlan was unwanted because of his style of football. I was told that Tony Pulis was pressing Wael to bring in Ben Garner and completely sold him on the player development idea which required GC to be eased out. In the first 11 games of 2018/19 under DC average attendances were 8100. In the remaining 12 games under GC the average actually rose by 5% to 8500, with the last three games averaging 8900, so nobody was complaining about the style of football then. But in 2019/20 attendances fell right from the start which doesn't fit with the theory that GC's football put people off. If they had started at 2018/19 levels and then fallen away there might have been some credibility to it but that didn't happen. Gasheads voted with their feet BEFORE having the chance to say we don't like this type of football so we're staying away. The first ten games of 2018/19 (Accrington, Portsmouth, Southend, Plymouth, Coventry, Walsall, Oxford, Wimbledon, Scunthorpe, & Gillingham) averaged 8176. But the first ten games of 2019/20 (Wycombe, Tranmere, Oxford, Accrington, Gillingham, Rotherham, MK Dons, Bolton, Portsmouth & Southend)) averaged 7310 which is a 10% reduction. I don't know whether it was the quality of the opposition or disillusionment over summer transfer activity but something happened to cause a reduction in attendances before Graham Coughlan had a chance to show what his team could do in the new season. A striking example of this is the opening day attendance which in 2018/19 against Accrington was 8683 but in 2019/20 against Wycombe had dropped by 1000 to 7668. Just to add to this, GC left the club in December, and we'd arrived at 4th place in the table by surprise. If we'd continued to stay in the play-offs then you can be sure that crowds would have risen - fans go to watch a winning team, a team going for promotion. Compare to our last promotion season in 2021/22: - Before the turn on the year crowds were bumbling along between 6,000 - 7,000. A few above 7K for local games, and teams with bigger away support. - In January the talk was we could challenge for the play-offs. We put some wins together, started moving up the table. But the crowds were still far from impressive until the end of the season and the prospect of promotion was on. Here's a few attendance from that run-in: 15/01/2022 - Hartlepool = 7,004 12/02/2022 - Mansfield = 7,700. 15/02/2022 - Sutton = 6,700. 01/03/2022 - Barrow = 6,685. 15/03/2022 - Colchester = 7,134. From then on the final 4 home games were all over 9,100.

You can't have it both ways. Of course JB has to own his behaviour, and look at the reasons for it - as do people who manage youth or Downs League teams. I brought up the recent incident at MacDonalds, as an example of how behaviour in all areas of society has declined - is this not an example of that? For me, having lived in Bath for the majority of my life, it certainly brought it home to me. I did mention it in order to take a cheap jibe at somebody, which you did - shame on you.

There was a lot more diversity of views before the fallings out and departures over Bartongate.

Reading some threads which predated the current era, I noticed names of some posters who had long departed from here. The Barton era doesn't prevent current posters from joining in with a football related thread, if people aren't attending games, they can view highlights online and read press reports to gauge how the team is performing. You, of course, can have a bird's eye view of matches.

It’s a great shame that they have left or maybe are elsewhere and using another name, i did not ever use any type of forum until i started using the old club one, i learned a hell of a lot from a fair few and i find it sad that they are no longer here.

This thread and the anti Joe Barton theme is imo the main reason why many, too many, have left this forum.
We've had an anti Joe Barton Admin team, that allowed this thread and allowed it to dominate.Indeed, they've led the anti JB thing.
Okay, everyone has a point of view and are entitled to it,but the anti Barton theme has damaged this Forum.
Maybe it's time for a new Admin person or people.
A while ago Dr Faustus offered to pay for the forum rent and I assume he would of had a role in Admin.
Why not invite Dr Faustus back,to run the show?
Let someone else have ago,perhaps.

Anyone remember "Good Morning Vietnam" and the parody of censors who didn't understand what they were supposed to be censoring? Based on the most recent suggestion, coming to a Forum near you.... hopefully the current mods will ignore the suggestion
