Update from the BBC on "Project Big Picture". www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54587893In a surprising turn of events, it would appear the Premier League have decided that gifting £250mil to the EFL and guaranteeing 20% of future TV money is a little bit of a stretch. Shocker. It’s beginning to look an even bigger mess than last week. At the moment the PL clubs are getting some stick and the FA, EFL and the government will all be putting them under pressure to do something to help clubs now. The press seem to think that several clubs are under danger if help isn’t forthcoming very soon. Personally I’m not sure that it’s the PLs job to bale out League 1 or League 2 clubs but the general feeling appears to think it is and if a club or even more cease trading in the current climate then I think the authorities would come down nard on the PL for doing nothing when such a small amount of £££ could have saved the club. In short, the PL can’t afford to let a small league club to go out of business. They don’t want any more bad press. Ultimately, it’s unlikely that the big clubs would step outside the existing structures to get what they want, so in a way they need the FA as much as everyone else needs the PL cash. EUFA work through the FA and they would be unlikely to deal with a breakaway group. I suspect a smaller sum will be given to league clubs to tide them over but nothing major will change until the PL get more of what they want. But we’ll see. UTG! I guess it boils down to the PL weighing up "how much money do we have to give to give the EFL to avoid any more bad PR". They think at the moment it's a one-off payment of £25mil. It's a long, long way away from £250mil and 20% of future TV revenue. Not sure what the Govt can actually do. Apply "pressure"? The PL isn't a registered charity. I would imagine they have pretty decent lawyers. "IF" the EFL get the bail-out they want from the PL - then I'm pretty sure there will be a price to be paid.

Those are all good questions epping, and as you say it does all boil down to that. Pretty sure the government “can’t “ actually do anything but on top of the recent pay-for-view package being put in place the PL really don’t want any more bad publicity. If the EFL get the bail out from the PL you are correct, there will be a price to be paid and it’s likely to be one that hits the independence of the EFL. And I’m afraid it will involve some kind of B teams getting access to more opportunities in the EFL.
In this lockdown from football the people I sit with at Bournemouth are asking me about how Bournemouth are doing and did I watch the match on ifollow and I’m telling them I’ve not seen Bournemouth at all this season as I’m buying into Rovers ifollow and getting my season ticket money for AFCB refunded. In short, I’ve seen all of Rovers matches and I’m loving this. I don’t miss not seeing AFCB although I miss the clamour of live football. Habits are changing so I’m not sure that the PL can remain blinkered and immune to what’s happening with the lower leagues. Time will tell. UTG!

20+24+24+24=92, thirty-eight round premiership, three forty-six round divisions. Status quo.
18+24+24+24=90, two clubs binned off. No thank you.
16+26+26+26=94, thirty round premiership, three fifty round divisions. More league game money for our clubs. Fewer tiring league matches for theirs, so they can play Europe and cup games without whining, and so the poor England players won't feel sleepy weepy.
Show me a better idea.

If the governnance of English football was better, less short-term and greedy than I would be in the camp of 'call the bluff of the big clubs and let them go form a European Superleague if they want'. We'll then get on with organising the game in a different way for everyone else. It would offer a test of 2 competing visions of football - 1)that what makes English football special, unique and marketable is the massive brands at the top of the gave vs 2)what makes English football special, unique and marketable is the remarkable depth it was into every communiy in the country and its appealing 'live the dream' model. If there was more imagination and longer term thinking I would say 2) could have a fighting chance of doing very well.
