Another 6-1 aggregate victory. Wiesbaden promoted. Disappointing to see empty seats at Bielefeld. Maybe supporters gave up at 0-4 after the first leg. But supporters don't 'give up'. See Sheffield Wednesday. Anyway, still more to come with Unterhashing vs Energie Cottbus...

Energie Cottbus 1 Unterhaching 2. Was watching the Hammers claim the Conference Cup from the cheating Italians, so missed this one. 2nd leg is Sunday 1pm kick off to decide who gets promoted to the third tier.
Deportivo de la Coruna (1) also have a 2nd leg play off away at Castellon (0) Sunday 7pm to try and get promoted to the second tier. I'm not even sure if this is the final... Pretty sure they are the only winners of the top 5 European leagues this century currently playing in the third tier. Used to work with a long suffering Deportivo fan from Galicia... so keep an eye out for them.

And good luck Mrs V Smegma with Unterhashing vs Energie Cottbus. 2 sides with Bundesliga experience battling for a place in Liga (tier 3). The rules for who gets promoted from the 5 Regionaliga divisions to Liga with only 4 places seems to be a somewhat shifting landscape. In fact Energie Cottbus were the last side to represent the 'old' East Germany in the Bundesliga (2008-9) before the rise of Union Berlin (first season in top tier 2019-20). RB Leipzig don't count. f**k 'em. Thank you. Hadnt realised it was a play off to decide BL3 status till earlier this week. Half time Haching are well placed with a 2-1 sieg at Cottbus in front of 17000. Return leg this Sun sold out. Auf gehts Haching auf gehts

Bayern Munich confirm Konrad Laimer deal..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/6/9/2713e7da-d63c-4d52-acfe-ef8081d8ba88.jpgBayern Munich have signed central midfielder Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig on a four-year deal. The 26-year-old Austrian has signed with the Bundesliga champions until summer 2027. "It's a dream come true for me. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world," he told the club website. "I will give everything for the club and the fans. Bayern always has the highest goals - just like me. I'm in the right place here. "I'm only capable of giving 100 per cent, and that's what I'll put into every training session from day one. I can hardly wait."

Auf gehts Haching auf gehts I think there's a stream here: www.google.com/search?q=unterhaching+energie+cottbus+german+youtube&rlz=1C1CHZN_enGB1052GB1052&oq=unterhaching+energie+cottbus+german+youtube&aqs=chrome..69i57j33i160l3.30366j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:8c3133b8,vid:XiGwMpJEx3M Good luck Unterhaching and their 4 man bob badge! I remember reading an article about a previous Cottbus promotion where 'supporters' paraded in KKK outfits. That's disgusting. Sadly there is a nasty under-current in some of the former East German Clubs.

Cottbus started well. First Unterhaching (pronounced hacking) attack and they scored. 1-0 at HT. End to end stuff. The YouTube coverage from "German Football" is very high quality.

A good 15 minutes hold up as Cottbus supporters started chucking stuff onto the pitch and the riot police were called out. Morons.
A second goal for Unterhaching and it's all over. Cottbus fans. Oh dear oh dear.

Ehlich and Hobsch both looked half decent in the two games I saw. Ehlich is quite pacy but a bit raw not always producing decent end product. Hobsch clearly knows where the back of the back of the net is and is Haching’s main goal threat. I also saw his dad play for 1860 Munich when I lived there in the late 90s. Chuffed they are back in BL3. Hoping they will get back to BL2 in the near future. Still think if you win your league you should automatically be promoted not face play off lottery

Haching’s website say second goal scored by Skarlatidis.
Another one who caught my eye in the Pipinsried game was Timon Obermeier but he is not a regular starter and Pipinsried were poor

Would seem more sensible to have 5 champions promoted and 5 relegated. But that's what they do...

Aggregate score 3-3. Deportivo go through on away goals? No. Extra time. Deportivo score in the 98th, Castellon in the 108th. 4-4 on aggregate. Deportivo go through on away goals? No. Straight to penalties? No. Castellon go through as they finished higher than Deportivo in the league. Tough. Very tough.

At a tangent to the thread. "The football" is still going on in Spain. 1st leg of who gets promoted to the 2nd tier in Spain Castellon vs Alcorcon 6pm ko. 2nd leg Sat 24th June 7pm. That's going to be rather warm. Not a lot of rest before the next season starts. Castellon near Valencia, Alcorcon from Madrid.

Promoted to the Bundesliga: 1. FC Heidenheim 1846. Bit cheeky to reference 1846... as that was when the gymnastics Club was formed, football was introduced in 1890. As low as tier 7 in the late 90's. South West Germany with only a 15,000 capacity stadium. Looks like a very tough season ahead of them 8/13 to finish in the bottom 3. 2. SV Darmstadt 1898. A couple of season in the Bundesliga in the late 70's and mid 2010's. Another small stadium in the state of Hesse (17,400) and 8/11 to finish in the bottom 3.
SV Hamburg stay in Bundesliga 2 after losing in the promotion/relegation play off to Stuttgart. Hamburg had been the only member of the original Bundesliga (1962-63) to have never been relegated... until 2017-18. Most people thought they would get back very quickly, they were wrong. 6 times German champions, European Cup winners (1982-3), Cup Winners Cup (1976-77}. They have struggled. They play at the Volksparkstadion (57,000 capacity). City rivals are St Pauli. SV Hamburg are joined in the Bundesliga 2 by Hertha Berlin (I almost feel sorry for them) and Schalke 04. 3 very big Clubs...

Bayern Munich beat local side Rottach-Egern 27-0 in pre-season match..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/28E7/production/_130417401_gettyimages-1554001724.jpg Serge Gnabry scored a hat-trick for Bayern against Rottach-EgernIf Bayern Munich's first game of pre-season is anything to go by they might not need Tottenham striker Harry Kane - having beaten Rottach-Egern 27-0. Thirteen players got on the score sheet, with Jamal Musiala, Mathys Tel and Marcel Sabitzer grabbing five each. Sabitzer, who was on loan at Manchester United last season, scored his five goals in 22 second-half minutes. It was 18-0 at half-time before amateur side Rottach-Egern limited Bayern to nine goals after the break. Serge Gnabry, with a hat-trick, Alphonso Davies, Konrad Laimer, Noussair Mazraoui, Dayot Upamecano, Leroy Sane, Raphael Guerreiro, Ryan Gravenberch, Kingsley Coman and Sadio Mane were the other players to score. Bayern, who have been linked with Kane this summer, beat the same opposition 23-0 in 2019. P.S..Must have been an inspirational half-time talk going on the big improvement in the 2nd half...

Union Berlin will be playing all their Champions League fixtures at the Olympiastadion (home to Hertha, though owned by the stadium company). Capacity 74,000. Stadion An der Alten Försterei holds only 22,000 and tickets are gold dust. Stansted - Berlin flying Tuesday and coming back Thursday in September as cheap as £47 return. Same dates - London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads £46. If they're not bloody striking...

A short note on the DFB-Pokal. The only cup competition in Germany with 64 teams entering. All teams from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, top 4 from Bundesliga 3. Then intriguingly 24 slots to winners and runners of the amateur regional football associations, the Verbandspokale. (Reserve Bundesliga teams are not allowed to enter). The first round is seeded in two pots - the Bundesliga big boys in one, and the largely amateur sides in the other. The amateur sides get home advantage. Which is why you say some bizarre match ups (and results) in the DFB-Pokal 1st round. So no 'league cup', no 'Papa Johns Ford Tippex Andrex Trophy'. Fun fact, the biggest upset was when tiny Eppingen (not surprisingly Epping's twin town) beat the mighty Hamburg in 1974... Courtesy of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DFB-Pokal

Union off to a flier, 1-0 up against Mainz in the 1st minute... and went on to win 4-1. New boys Darmstadt and Heidenheim both lost their opening fixtures. In Bundesliga 2 it goes from bad to worse for Hertha - played 3, lost 3, bottom place. Only two former East German clubs in Bundesliga 2 - Magdeburg (2nd) and Hansa Rostock (4th).
