Leipzip have lost their last 3 games, F4, A9, So Sunday at 4.30pm should be very interesting with Union winning 2 in their last 5, at least you have a 5 point cushion... A hard earned point would be a pleasing result... Not to be. Union conceded from free kicks early in both halves. First half they were miles off the pace. The new signing up front Vertessen from PSV had a bit of a shocker. Midfield couldn't get hold of the ball at all. Union reserve keeper Schwolow kept them in the game with some good saves. Always felt like Plastic could go up a gear when they wanted. The substitutions made Union look better in the second half and they looked OK until Captain Trimmel was very harshly sent off (99/100 it was a yellow, honestly mein herr). Xavi for Plastic had a terrific game. Union are struggling away from home. Away to Bayern, Dortmund, Plastic & Leverkeusen - no chance. It will be the home form that keeps Union up. Hopefully. Eisern Union. Was it a sending off..?

More free Bundesliga action. Sky Sports Football Youtube. 5:30ko. Big 6 pointer. Mainz vs UNION. And Sky Sports Mix (free on my basic TV package). UNVEU. Mainz evens to win?!? That's tight. Union at nearly 3-1. Looks like a dull 0-0 or 1-1 draw to me. We shall see.

Mainz 1 UNION 1. A game that probably shouldn't have gone ahead. Heavy rain before and during. Standing water, ball stopping in puddles. All very Wycombe. Mistakes all over the place, players losing their footing. Union's Kevin Volland hit the bar and post. Union fans held the game up for over 10 minutes with a golf & tennis ball protest (still about the Bundesliga selling a minor share holding to an outside investor). Eventually Union Captain Khedira lost patience and asked them to stop. Cue 10 mins of injury time. Mainz scored from a corner on 45 +8. Union scored from a ball pulled back from the bi-line, looped to the far post where Gosens squeezed it home 45 +13! Second half more chances, but no more goals. Conditions failed to improve. At one stage Union mid-fielder Laidouni sliced a clearance backwards to his own 6 yard box (ala Cian Harries) where the Mainz striker managed to miss the target with the keeper stranded in no-mans land. Mainz had more to lose in this game and pushed forward in desperation. A draw that keeps them in the bottom two. Union will be happy to keep distance between the two sides. Not a dull draw, but 1-1 (or 0-0) as predicted...

Union's next game is at home to Wolfsburg who are only a few places above, another must win game.. Just like BRFC were a few years ago, UB have to take points at home & make it an uncomfortable place to visit.

Think of the Old Den, but placed in the middle of woods, in a former Communist country (without the threat of extreme violence).

Bundesliga and La Liga: Will Bayern Munich and Real Madrid be upset by the underdogs..?The leagues in Germany and Spain have produced unlikely title contenders this season and Saturday could prove to be a pivotal day as the underdogs take on the traditional powerhouses. In the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen are top of the table and host Bayern Munich at 5.30pm, who are second and two points behind Xabi Alonso's side. In La Liga, Girona travel to Real Madrid at 5.30pm knowing a victory would take them above Carlo Ancelotti's side and into first place. Harry Kane's 24 Bundesliga goals have come in 20 games this seasonReal Madrid, of course, have England midfielder Jude Bellingham in their ranks, but they go into this game with a defensive headache - not ideal against La Liga's top scorers. Nacho is likely to miss out with a muscle issue while Antonio Rudiger has a knee injury. David Alaba and Eder Militao are also still sidelined. Despite that, Real boss Ancelotti is unconcerned and sees Saturday's game as a chance to lay down a significant marker in the title race. "We are leaders and we have another chance to make a statement win," Ancelotti said. Good luck Neverkeusen (no offence Harry). Bayern are as disliked in Germany as Man Utd are in England. Neverkeusen are famous chokers. And have won more European trophies than domestic titles (finishing 2nd in the Bundesliga 5 times). From wiki: "The finishes of 2000 and 2002 were heart-breaking for supporters, as on both occasions the team had the Bundesliga title within its grasp. In 2000, Bayer Leverkusen needed only a draw against SpVgg Unterhaching to win the title, but an own goal by Michael Ballack helped send the team to a crushing 2–0 defeat, while Bayern Munich won the title with a 3–1 victory over Werder Bremen. Two years later, the club surrendered a five-point lead atop the league table by losing two of its last three matches, while Borussia Dortmund swept ahead with three consecutive victories in its final matches. The 2002 season has been dubbed the "Treble Horror", as Bayer Leverkusen were also beaten 4–2 in the DFB-Pokal final by Schalke 04 and lost the UEFA Champions League final 2–1 to Real Madrid". I've only ever seen one Spanish Liga game. Girona 0 Real Valladolid 0...

Saturday 10th February 2024 - German Bundesliga
Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3 Bayern Munich 0

Report By Timothy Abraham, BBC Sport.Bayer Leverkusen struck a huge blow in the Bundesliga title race with an emphatic victory over Bayern Munich which sent them five points clear. Xabi Alonso's side took the lead in the first half when Josip Stanisic finished clinically at the back post. The BayArena erupted again shortly after the break when Alex Grimaldo fired in from a tight angle. Jeremie Frimpong put the gloss on the result in injury time when goalkeeper Manuel Neuer went up for a corner. Second-placed Bayern, the defending champions having won the past 11 Bundesliga titles, managed just a solitary shot on target as they were blown away. Leverkusen's victory means they are now unbeaten in 31 matches in all competitions this season (won 27, drawn four). Bayern's Thomas Muller, said: "What we're missing is the guts and some freedom to play. "Leverkusen were taking risks, looking for solutions and playing football. "We're playing from A to B, B to C, and nobody plays freely or takes risks." Quiet night for Kane as Bayern fall flatichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/37AB/production/_132615241_gettyimages-2000695968.jpgFor the first time in eight years, Bayern only managed one shot on target in a Bundesliga match. This result was a bruise to the ego of a team used to being top dogs, as much as to their points total. There's still a long way to go this season and it is difficult to envisage the 33-time Bundesliga winners throwing in the towel just yet allowing Leverkusen to canter home. Wow - what a great win for Union Berlin v Wolfsburg 1-0, 6 points clear now at the bottom end... Next up - 1899 Hoffenheim v 1. FC Union Berlin - 2.30pm - Saturday 17th February.

Mainz and Darmstadt look toast. UNVEU.

Arsenal also hold an interest in De Ligt but Manchester United are currently in pole position. Two Bayer Leverkusen defenders are also being watched by Manchester United, with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag keen on Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong, 23, and Burkino Faso centre-back Edmond Tapsoba, 25. Chelsea are tracking Bournemouth and Hungary left-back Milos Kerkez, 20, alongside Bayern Munich and Canada full-back Alphonso Davies, 23. Fulham failed in an attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller in January with the 29-year-old wanting to concentrate on the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast and unwilling to move mid-season. Bayern Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is now wanted by Barcelona as well as Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Bayern Munich enquired about signing Mykhailo Mudryk on loan in January but Chelsea had no interest in letting the 23-year-old Ukraine winger leave. Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is on Barcelona's shortlist to succeed Xavi when the former Spain midfielder steps down at the end of the season. FC Union Berlin since its predecessor SC Union Oberschöneweide started playing in the stadium in 1920. The stadium's capacity was last redeveloped in 2009 and expanded in 2013. Some of the redevelopment work was carried out by over 2,300 Union Berlin supporters volunteering their services. The club have contacted those 2,300 fans to reward them a 2,346.68 euro bonus for their help.....

Rostock 2 Hamburg 2. Decent game. Only caught the end of the 1st half and all the 2nd. Rostock in a Millwall kit and were certainly 'full bloodied'. Hamburg now in their 6th season in Bundesliga 2. On this showing, I don't think it will be their last. Fun Fact. Hansa Rostock are the most successful former DDR side in terms of participation in the Bundesliga. (As ever, plastic RB down count),

Jeremie Frimpong put Xabi Alonso's unbeaten side in front in first-half injury time with a deflected effort. Amine Adli added a second after the interval, rounding goalkeeper Kevin Muller before slotting home. Tim Kleindienst pulled one back for Heidenheim with four minutes left but Leverkusen managed to hold on. Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel will depart the club at the end of the season..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/21/387cbadf-f238-40e4-a0d4-bbed6ecaa8f6.jpgThe German giants, who have won the past 11 Bundesliga titles, are eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. They also trail Lazio in their Champions League last-16 tie, with the second leg in Munich on 5th March. Serial Bundesliga powerhouses Bayern Munich are having a season much below the standards they have set in recent years, which has seen them win the Bundesliga title in each of the previous 11 seasons. Thomas Tuchel's side are second in the Bundesliga standings with just 12 matches remaining, eight points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. That run has included three straight defeats in all competitions, with the latest being a 3-2 defeat away at VFL Bochum in the league. In the Champions League, they are currently 1-0 down against Lazio after the first leg of their Round of 16 tie. They are in danger of suffering a first trophy less season since the 2011/12 term, having lost August's Super Cup final to RB Leipzig and being knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by third-tier FC Saarbrucken in November. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/21/472981e3-a391-4ddd-bd81-d70a5384393c.jpgIn a statement, Bayern confirmed manager Thomas Tuchel will leave at the end of the season following an "amicable conversation" between the boss and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. Tuchel will depart on 30 June with a year left on his contract. Dreeson said: "In an open, good conversation we came to the decision to mutually end our collaboration in the summer. Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024/25 season. "Until then, every individual in the club is expressly challenged to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and the Bundesliga. I also explicitly hold the team responsible. Especially in the Champions League, we are convinced that after the 0-1 defeat in the first leg at Lazio Rome, we will advance to the quarter-finals in the second leg in our fully occupied Allianz Arena with our fans behind us." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/21/0a5958e4-a942-4d7c-bef9-454d5e402f0d.jpgThomas Tuchel also reflected on the decision and said: "We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after this season. "Until then, I and my coaching team will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success." Bayern Munich suffered their third defeat in nine days to Bochum at the weekend. Post-match, Thomas Tuchel said winning the Bundesliga title "does not look very realistic", but added: "Last season we believed until the end and we were rewarded. So we will keep working at it." Referring to the pressure on him following his team's third loss, Tuchel added: "That happens after every defeat. "The 'how' we played is key. The 'how' was good and that's why this 90 minutes are very different from the second half at Lazio or the game at Leverkusen." It was the first time Bayern had lost three matches in a row since May 2015, when they were managed by Pep Guardiola. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/21/7375ef1f-e78d-4d0e-a485-54ef80e6ba4a.jpgAlthough Thomas Tuchel's time at Bayern Munich will be over this summer, it does not necessarily rule him out of taking either of the roles at Liverpool or Barcelona. Prior to this season, Tuchel won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in the 2022-23 campaign and has previously also won the Champions League and Club World Cup with Chelsea, two Ligue 1 crowns with Paris St-Germain and the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund. In terms of being high profile, Tuchel remains one of the biggest names in management. However, his disappointing time in Munich may lead to a break for him before immediately taking his next position. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/21/1b6926e8-d7c6-4c8a-a7ba-5315170f0e96.jpg
