Paul Tisdale and Andy Tilson would be the dream team. Used to developing young players both live locally and well used to working within a minimal budget at Exeter City. Not Holloway for me. Andy Tilson was only a part time coach at Exeter and Tisdale works with a DOF namely Steve Perryman. My big doubt is would he work with our current owners given his business ethics but he is out of work so who knows.

Yes, he would have left is in a flash to join his beloved Plymouth.
He has an ego and he was crushed to discover that he would never be loved here. Hence his famous line," I will blow my own trumpet. What has been achieved here is a miracle."
Those who see performances for what they are, will beg to differ.
We owe him for his organisation and motivation, but his lack of coaching ability will mean that he will always stay a Lower League Manager at best. Never pretty.

I said before that in his own head he thinks he’s a world beater already. You have to have some bollocks to tell a reporter that you have taken a club as far as you can when you are a year into your first managerial career. Who does he think he is?! The fact that Pulis and Allardyce are out of work shows there is no appetite any more for his style of football and he is deluding himself if he thinks championship clubs are going to be foaming at the mouth for it. Which is probably why despite his “miracles” instead of going up the leagues he is going down. I hope he doesn’t stop there.

I would agree with that but you have now left Tisdale out of the equation.

Angas will find it, but I think he said it after Shrewsbury game.
It was another emotional rant to Radio Bristol along the lines of:
"No-one loves me here, but I really am the dog's proverbials".
Thank God DC is a Mansfield born and bred supporter. Feel the love.

I hope those who take delight in slagging DC off take a long hard look at themselves after this show of loyalty from the self styled Dog’s Proverbials

wmgas, Not fit to lick DC's boots? wmgas I throw at you relegation bound a year ago under DC, finding it difficult to get a point away from home and home results bad as well. Now in a year under GC we are 4th in League 1 with a game in hand. Speaks for itself. GC every time for me and they might be in direct competition with GC at Mansfield and DC struggling with Walsall. As for Tisdale/Tilson you have to have the right people to stand ANY chance of playing Tisdales type of football or you will struggle big time. Sometimes you reach a stage where 1 pass is better than 20!! I hope GC is still here end of January but fear he will be gone by tomorrow night.

Compensation for GC, JD & KM and GK coach should free up a short term deal for the highly respected Tisdale. He may tempt some talented creative midfielders Ryan Harley to BS7. I feel Ollie Clarke's days are numbered and a role on the coaching staff for Millwall Tony is certain.
This could be real watershed come January and an opportunity to sale JCH for a massive profit, off load Bennett and Nichols and return Victor to Barnsley and make an offer to Matty Taylor or sign two new strikers and a proper attacking winger.
The FA Cup replay at Plymouth on Tuesday is vital and a win secures a home time against Coventry City. A chance of a Premiership club in the next round and some national headlines and some more welcome revenue. The tie against a struggling Stevenage in the Trophy could see Rovers have a realistic chance of a National Final at Wembley come April. League form especially away has been impressive and who knows a realistic chance of a play off place. The test on Saturday against high scoring Posh will be a stern test but win that one and confidence will be high.
Onwards and upwards. Merry Christmas.

Sometimes you reach a stage where 1 pass is better than 20!! I hope GC is still here end of January but fear he will be gone by tomorrow night. Perhaps he was thinking on an individual level Steve? DC has his faults but he also has a strong sense of integrity and what is right and wrong. John Dempster was sacked by Mansfield after drawing with Crewe. Coughlan pumps his fists in front of Rovers fans before giving a tearful post-match interview in which he states he needs to consider his future. Having just witnessed his players fight valiantly for him, he decides that now is not the time to talk about their superb performance and drops his bombshell. His 'I only put the cones out' line was clearly at odds with his ongoing messiah complex and his switching of the spotlight onto himself. His criticisms of the club's off-field operations also ring hollow, not least because he basically channelled the spirit and sentiments of DC's departing remarks. Let's just say, I don't believe there was no contact before him/his agent and Mansfield before these events occurred. If this suspicion is correct (and I can't believe that the chain of events was coincidental), then this reflects extremely badly on him. This is also a manager who, let us remember, used the Reilly affair to inform the world how important it is to be upfront and honest. In his job as Mansfield manager, he will have to ask players to commit to a contract and to conduct themselves professionally. Let's wish him the best of luck with that. You are right on Tisdale - it would like asking Guardiola to coach the 1980s incarnation of the 'Crazy Gang'. Tilson with Ward or Holloway as DoF sounds much more the part.

Thank God DC is a Mansfield born and bred supporter. Feel the love. To be honest, I never bothered listening to his interviews. But you threw down the challenge and you were right about it being Shrewsbury. Sounds like it's all the fans' fault - runs in my mind we got the blame once before, a good few years back - can't remember by who or why. Hey ho. Transcript of the relevant bit from the EP (as GC was cut off in his prime at the end of the os video):- Do you feel that things are starting to build a little bit, a little bit of momentum coming Bristol Rovers' way?
I think we’re onto something, we’re definitely onto something yes. To do this job is really, really hard, you have to be a certain character to manage this football club, I find it tough, the lack of support, maybe the lack of backing, I do find it tough, but that dressing room in there is absolutely magnificent, they get behind us and put their heart down for this football club. I just wish people would give us a little bit more of a chance, to be honest, nobody else will do it, so I may as well talk myself up. The job we’ve done here in 12 months is absolutely unbelievable. Just to be clear when you’re saying backing, the fans here, or are we talking the club?
No, no, no, I don't get involved in politics. I’d like a little bit of support, somebody just realise the job we’re doing, a little bit of moral support, they were singing our names there at the end which was nice, but it is tough, I do get battered by the fans, to be honest, but that’s part and parcel of the job. I just want to reassure everyone that I love this job, it’s not going to be pretty every week, but we are onto something and if we can get together as a football club and if we can offer a bit more support and be a little bit more positive then who knows where we can go and who knows what we can do, the fans have been great and on days like this it is enjoyable, but when we possibly don’t play well I’d love them just to get behind us and cheer the lads as well. They’re good, honest, hardworking lads and I can’t speak highly enough of them and together we’re stronger and if we’re all together and we’re all in this you just never know where you’re going to go. www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/full-transcript-graham-coughlan-discusses-3573185

Yes, worth another listen, but he contradicts himself a lot. He bigged himself up and said he was not getting the recognition, but the fans are brilliant. As they were yesterday. Like a lot of things that come out of his mouth, it was muddled.
In terms of replacements, as there is no turning back after yesterday, we are reliant on Martyn Starnes as Chief Exec.
I would say that Nathan Jones has a good chance. They both spent a long time together at Yeovil. Jones did fantastically well with Luton, but fell foul of Stoke. Why would someone not wish to take on a 4th placed team in League 1?
Too much negative thought. With the right experienced Manager, who has promotion credentials, stranger things have happened.

This thread has turned into farce now. Someone said Coughlan has done better than Darrell.

DC will go down as a legend who got the club off it's knees and stuck by us. GC will go down as a man who won a few games and used us as a stepping stone to manage Mansfield. Let that sink in for a moment. GC will be back to being a coach soon enough. He's a one-trick pony with the most basic footballing philosophy (if you can call it that) who is going to get found out. If he was smart he would stay here and max his reputation out while the conditions are in his favour.

I've edited the transcript from the EP slightly since posting it. Edits in blue, just to show where they'd not quite got it right.
All I can take from that interview is that he might have loved the job, but he clearly wasn't enjoying it. Mansfield came knocking - closer to home, less stress all round. If he hadn't made his mind up before yesterday's post match interview, he's pretty much left with no decision to make now. So we move on. Again. Same old, same old. I just hope the players weren't playing out of their skins yesterday as a final hurrah. Tuesday will be 'interesting'.
