This forum seems to do a pretty good job of moderating itself from what I see.

I haven't been visiting the forum for the last 2 months or so for a combination of personal reason but I just want to thank Jeff for all his efforts over the years.
This forum would have been very suddenly snuffed out 6 years ago were it not for the quick actions of Jeff to set up the new one and rally some us to be moderators etc. So any of us that have gotten value out of it over the years owe him a big debt of gratitude. I know Jeff mentioned those of us who have been moderators but the truth is (and I hope fellow moderators aren't offended by this) the vast bulk of the administration of the forum has always been done by Jeff (and also Oxon who sadly left the forum a while back). So it's a big thank you from me.

I envy you your hummingbirds - the best we've got to offer on here is a duck, albeit a rather fancy looking one. You've made a very old duck very happy.

I've just happened to read threads from 2014 concerning the demise of ZFC. You've had ups and downs, have you Gas Guzzlers. Recent bickering isn't all new.

Always happens when there's nothing football wise worthy of discussion. And that's been more often than not over the years. I blame DC - if it wasn't for a few good years under him we'd never have got out of the habit

May i extend the heartfelt thanks to you for the time, effort and indeed the financial outlay although small I had no idea it cost you some of your hard earnt keeping the forum going.
I agree partly that the forum moderates itself but this could be naivety on our part as to how much effort it really takes you and other moderators. I was wondering if it would be useful and beneficial to state openly how many hours you and others spend per week/month on average so that any wannabe mods/admins have a grasp of the true task ahead.
Thanks again for all you have done.

Thanks again for all you have done. My first post in ages. I have been lurking in the background reading posts every now and again. In the time I have left the forum I have seen the gas three times. Once with Alan and the other two times away. I want to just say Jeff it was an honour helping you with the forum. I am not going to get into politics or the club but I do fear for it. To answer your question about moderation. It was ok when I was self employed but nearly cost me my job. However the forum was much busier then. This forum has always seemed to be for the let’s say more senior fans whilst the other is for the younger ones, nothing wrong with that but you get nothing for free. Web hosting sorting out complaints agreeing to members it is not a pop in pop out thing. Best of luck to you all and I think this will be the final break until the club is sold. I will always look at the results but happy with non league along with dog shows and horse riding.

I'm a bit annoyed the rest of us haven't clubbed round for this money all these years. I bet we're not alone in never having considered it. My first post in ages. I have been lurking in the background reading posts every now and again. In the time I have left the forum I have seen the gas three times. Once with Alan and the other two times away... I will always look at the results but happy with non league along with dog shows and horse riding. You're missed, old chap. Care to explain why you left here and don't go to the Mem more? I am not going to get into politics or the club but I do fear for it.... I think this will be the final break until the club is sold. Don't be a tease, Oxon. I think folk on here care what you think.

Thanks again for all you have done. It's not overly time-consuming Blue Mist, more of a commitment to check-in on the forum on a regular basis. In my case, that's a few times a day just to ensure there's nothing to resolve. e.g. Reported posts to review and take action on, clearing spam posts, authorising new members. There are some payments to be made a couple of times a year for the forum itself and renewal of the domain name (gasheads.org). I'd say 95% of the time I check-in there is nothing that requires any effort on my part. The other mods also take care of some of the activities listed. Occasionally there is maintenance stuff such as archiving old forums, minor structural changes or moving threads to other areas (e.g. Match Day Threads from Gas Guzzler to Match Day Thread). The workload ebbs and flows a bit but I'd estimate I wouldn't spend more than an hour a week actually doing 'stuff'. The back end of the forum does appear daunting at first but unless you want to change the whole look, feel and format, it's not that difficult. Things like adding or deleting new sub-forums are relatively easy. I would be happy to bring anyone up to speed on the technicalities and hang around until they feel confident, say to the end of this season?. Act as my apprentice so to speak. As I stated earlier, one member has already kindly offered to cover the expenses of running the forum. I love this website too and will miss the banter so.... all those volunteering, please take one step forward!

Can't we crowdfund the money to pay JeffNZ to stay doing it?

That was probably me and bamber when i was known as "mydadknewgeoffbradford". Well my dad did know him as they both drove petrol tankers but looking back it was a bit of a long winded username.

Life is way too short to continue with something you’re not enjoying and having once been passionate about running this forum I now find, after more than six years, it has become somewhat of a chore so, after much soul-searching, I have decided... If you are interested you will need: - A reasonable understanding of technology
- An understanding of privacy, libel and spam legislative obligations
- A willingness to cover the costs of running the forum (approx. £30 per annum)
- A thick skin to protect yourself from the abuse that comes with the role
...I'll see what responses there are. I will, of course, support the right person who wants to take on this challenge and I’ll provide a reasonable transition period and training/advice. If no one is forthcoming by 20 Nov-19 then the forum will close on 30 Nov-19... If you're interested, PM me and we can have a chat. Jeff Let's keep this issue alive, time is running out.

If anybody is considering Jeff's offer to take over the Forum then believe me it isn't too time consuming.
During the post 2006 spat both myself and Kim used to moderate this ones predecessor and really wasn't too difficult even with having to cope with Basel. (That's a joke Steve) There was a lot of crap flying about back then including solicitors threats but nothing to keep anybody awake at night.

That's a very generous offer and I'm sure Jeff will ping the passwords straight over to you.

By now, I would hope that: 1. JeffNZ has someone he would choose in mind, 2. one or more volunteers has come forward, or 3. deep down Jeff has resolved to persevere. I will support the person to step up, but I think 3. is the preferred outcome round here.

Jeff if you pass the forum on is it possible to have my details deleted ? I guess that if you close the forum all the users details just disappear ? or would you delete them all first?
