Thanks Jeff and all the moderators for your hard work with the forum. It's an utterly thankless task unfortunately but as many have said I feel like you've let the forum flow rather than intervene on the whole. For the most part this has worked which lead to this forum being a good read and a pleasant place to post in the past. To be honest though I've been of the opinion for a while that it's gone downhill pretty fast over the last year or so. It seems to me that a much more aggressive vibe has started to come across with a lot of the posts and debates and this has unfortunately rubbed off on the whole feel of using the forum from my perspective. I don't post much but I tend to post on gaschat more when I do now - gaschat obviously has its own problems but despite the large amount of crap posted by a small number of posters there I find it a generally less aggressive and argumentative place to post. I mean forums are obviously all about arguing a case or a point of view, but there's a polite and respectful way of doing it that seems to have gone out of the window on here at times. It's a shame because (from my perspective) the level of debate used to be a lot better here than elsewhere in the past, and it was certainly a lot more respectful to other posters than it seems to be now.
It would be a shame to see this forum go but at the same time everything eventually runs its course so maybe it's simply the right time. But thanks again to you and all of the moderators for putting the effort in to run this place smoothly over the years. Up the Gas.

That's the key figure for me. It may be quiet, but it's clearly well read.
I look in lots, but I've nothing to contribute so I don't post except very occasionally. But this is my reference point for all things Rovers. I don't bother with the official site or the EP. No need to. Anything worth knowing will be on here, accompanied by opinions. The whole package in one place. What more does anyone want or need.

That's great detail. Cheers. Well worth persevering. I would suggest a simple football thread per day, where we can discuss football news. I think people get put off this site with it being overtly political. Especially younger supporters. Just a simple daily thread where people can come on and get Rovers / football news / thoughts would be good. My belief that we do not get so many join is that it’s very much more the upper house if you will. I think the intelligence levels here can intimidate some but I have never seen it as a competition. It’s a shame club staff use the other place rather than here. If one mod is to be believed then steve Hamer and a couple of others that are involved, in the day to day running of tne club, post there. Maybe they feel anything they post, will reach a bigger audience or that the content will be quickly sussed out as BS, on here ?

Going on the other site is like rummaging around a skip looking for that book you mistakenly threw out.
I’ve almost wholly used this site and it’s predecessor Rivals.net as a more one-stop place to get good opinion and debate - in a nutshell. The likes of Angus, Faustus, gasheadwes, Kingswood Polak and all the many others have given me good insight of the supporter base that I don’t really get now being overseas or from the other site that really is infantile.
Appreciate everyone’s time and thoughts through the years - I hope it continues but if not thanks for everyone’s contribution.

If contributors act sensibly do not get personal and respect the views of others who they might not agree with this then this can can be a superb forum.
Constant negative jibes at the Club's owners, staff, players and fans is not good to read.
We long suffering fans all know we want survival and ultimately a place in the promised land ...The Championship in a spanking new 25,000 all seater stadium and we have suffered many false dawns in the past thirty years or so.
I sincerely hope the forum continues and thank all those who have managed to keep it going these past years.

I haven't got time to "like" every post! But suffice to say I think Jeff has done a fantastic job. Maybe the overwhelmingly positive messages on this thread could prompt a re-think? Thank you very much Jeff. Wish you all the best. UTG.

Only just noticed this, so my grateful thanks to Jeff NZ and the moderators and the best of luck to anyone brave enough to take on a potentially thankless task.

This forum and it's predecessors has been the home of Rovers related independent thought where most people understand that when a fan criticizes the club the aim is to try to make things better.

I don't blame Jeff,a very few posters have ruined the forum recently. I am not a 'ban them all' type person but I was thinking about the case yesterday when some Southampton supporters were banned for their offensive behaviour against Cardiff, the ground wasn't closed down for the sake of a tiny group and why should the majority of people who enjoy this forum suffer for the nonsense of a minority ? Maybe the mods could warn the miscreants that if they continue to post about politics/their drugs of choice/their (non existent)sex life/their mid-life crisis etc etc that no one else wants to read then they will be suspended/banned ? I would miss Steve's match reports,GasMaccs statistics and Swiss financial analysis plus stories of matches and away trips from history,I cant be the only one surely?

I haven’t posted here for ages and my running total of posts is probably less than 10. I haven’t lived in Bristol since 1991. The last match I went to was the Grimsby Wembley game. Took my youngest (he was then 11) and he was shocked at me hugging strangers. And that was before we even got to the ground, boom boom. I used to go every week from the age of about 12, that was 1977, until going away to college in 86 but then took in as many games as I could travelling from Liverpool around northern away games. Wigan, Bury, Preston, Huddersfield (Bailey hat-trick😁), Mansfield, Chester, Wolves (Bailey again).
Up in the attic is a box of programmes starting from about 1973 when my dad took me along with his class from Greenway. Before then I used to look through the gaps in the stands at Eastville when I was taken to the market on a Sunday morning. That glimpse of the pitch was hypnotic.
What’s the point of this? It’s a decent question. I guess it’s that when I look in this site it feels, most of the time, like the club I remember. Whether that’s a good or bad thing I don’t know. The other place is so inane, here isn’t; at least not always and for that I’m grateful. I couldn’t imagine running it and the small world of BRFC will undoubtedly be worse without it, not least for decades-long absentees like me, but some of the self-indulgent criticism has been pretty poor.

Agree with you Angas, and where else could we discuss hummingbirds ? Gosh, that feels like a whole lifetime ago! An awful lot's happened since then, yet here we still all are. I envy you your hummingbirds - the best we've got to offer on here is a duck, albeit a rather fancy looking one

Just wanted to say that whatever happens, thank you very much. This is the only Rovers forum that I read and participate on due to the relative civility and lack of stupidity on here. I have noticed one or two posts recently aimed at moderators which I think are unfair - you all do a thankless task and you cannot please all of the people all of the time. For what it`s worth I think you all have moderated the forum with fairness and common sense from what I can see. I have neither the time, technical knowledge and, if I am being honest, enthusiasm to take something like this on. If gasheads.org goes I will not be on any Rovers related forum or social media which is a shame. Thanks for the last few years and good luck with whatever you do in the future. Andy. Agree with above, I am not likely to go elsewhere if this one dies. Agree socmed can be toxic and you have to have thick skin, sometimes a post can be innocently sent and is bombarded with negativity which puts you off, it's the main reason I had a break for a year or so. Thank you for your efforts in keeping this going. I do pick up more Rovers insight here than any other form of media. Life is too short. UTG
