Outstanding fast bowling from the Originals reduced the Invincibles to 34-5 and risked turning the showpiece into an anti-climax. But Tom Curran and Jimmy Neesham launched a stirring counter-attack and shared an unbroken partnership of 127, the highest for any wicket in the short history of the men's Hundred. Curran blasted five sixes in his 67 not out from 34 balls, while Neesham added an unbeaten 57 from 33 to lift the Invincibles to 161-5. Originals had comfortably chased 197 to beat Southern Brave in the eliminator on Saturday, but this time the dismissal of opener Phil Salt for 25 heralded the fall of four wickets for 17 runs. The loss of captain Jos Buttler, bowled for 11 swiping at spinner Danny Briggs, was a hammer blow, while Nathan Sowter held a magnificent catch tiptoeing around the boundary to dismiss Laurie Evans. Max Holden kept faint hopes alive with 37, leaving the Originals needing an unlikely 32 from the final 10 balls. Tom Curran continued his fine day by conceding only nine from the first five, then brother Sam closed out the game to leave Originals on 147-6 and the Invincibles victors by 14 runs. This marks a second successive final defeat for the Originals, while Invincibles take the men's title for the first time, joining Southern Brave women as the champions of 2023. Match Hero, Oval Invincibles' Tom Curran on BBC Two: "Everyone keeps saying that I've improved my batting but I don't see it that way. It's a compliment and it's nice to hear. But I have worked very hard on it, yes I came in to Surrey primarily as a bowler but it's pleasing to show what I can do. "Jimmy was unbelievable. It was a crucial partnership for us and we really fed off each other out there. He's a class player and I think the left and right-hand combo helped us out. "It has been a rollercoaster but I'm so pleased." Oval Invincibles all-rounder Sam Curran on BBC Two: "I think at 34-5 it all comes down to Tom [Curran] and Jimmy [Neesham] and the way they played in a pressure situation. Every game, a different person has stood up, and that's the key to winning trophies. "I am pleased for Tom, because he's had a hard season with injury and has been batting brilliantly. I am so happy. I think we are born to play and win trophies. "The Hundred is going to get bigger and better. To get that trophy is brilliant. The Hundred: Top women's wage increases to £50,000 as part of £800,000 new investment.The top women's players will now earn £50,000 in The Hundred after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) committed an extra £100,000 to each of the eight teams. The top salary last year was £31,250 and started at £15,000 in the tournament's first year in 2021. All of the salaries have seen an increase with the lowest earners seeing a £500 increase to £8,000. The men's wages are unchanged, with the top at £125,000 and lowest £30,000. The Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) report recommended parity in the competitions by 2025, but the ECB did not commit to that. The £50,000 is still much less than some of the contracts paid in the Women's Premier League in India, with highest-earner Smriti Mandhana commanding roughly £320,000 at the inaugural auction in 2023. The top fee paid in the Women's Big Bash in Australia is unknown, but average retainer, as of last April, is $54,200 (£28,000). Southern Brave are the current holders of the women's Hundred after beating Northern Superchargers in last year's final at Lord's, while Oval Invincibles hold the men's title after victory over Manchester Originals. The dates for the 2024 tournament are yet to be confirmed but it is expected to take place from late July to late August. Fixtures will be unveiled on 23 January. It is expected to clash with England men's Test side facing West Indies and the final week of the Major Cricket League in United States. Retention window opensThe retention window has now opened with women's teams able to retain up to eight players and men's teams up to 10 players. The open market process, which saw women's teams add seven players to their squad, will no longer happen, with squads being assembled via retentions, the draft - the date of which is yet to be confirmed - and wildcard picks. In the women's competitions, each team will nominate one player as a 'designated marquee player' who can be replaced by a fourth overseas or a domestic player. In the men's competition, if the sides' England central contract player is unavailable - which will happen at times due to the overlapping schedule - they can be replaced by either a fourth overseas player or a domestic player. Three overseas players is still the maximum each team can field in a game. In both competitions each team will add two wildcard picks.

The top women's players will now earn £50,000 in the franchise competition, up from £31,250 in 2023. England bowler Cross was in the top bracket for runners-up Northern Superchargers last season. "It is obviously unbelievable," Cross said on the BBC's No Balls podcast. "£50,000 to play domestic women's cricket in the UK is mad. It is significantly more than the bottom paid men's player now too." In the first year of The Hundred in 2021, the top women's players earned £15,000 while the lowest-paid men's players earned £30,000. But Cross and No Balls co-host Alex Hartley, who played for Welsh Fire before retiring at the end of last year's tournament, said there are still areas for improvement around the lowest-paid women's players, whose pay has increased from £7,500 to £8,000. "Before anyone comes at me with negative views, I think it's great," said Cross. "My thing is that we just keep putting money in the pockets of the same players that keep getting money put into their pockets. "I'm sure at some stage there would have been a discussion around a table at the ECB [England and Wales Cricket Board] and that they need to lure players over with money, but they were luring those players over anyway. "It's just got to keep going in the right direction and it is. The men's salary is capped but £8,000 for the women's lowest-paid player, when the men's is getting £30,000, is a big difference. "Hopefully, we can just keep these little wins and keep chipping away." In 2023, all of the players in the top salary bracket were either overseas players or England internationals. Women's cricket's domestic set-up is not fully professional, with 80 players contracted by their regional teams and 18 players on full England central contracts. The average yearly salary for a women's regional cricketer is £25,000. Some of those who play in The Hundred but are without a domestic contract are still in education or have other jobs. "When I saw that the bottom one is £8,000 now, I thought surely the top one could go up to maybe £40,000 and you filter it down," Hartley added. "Then the players in the bottom bracket and the girls that are having to take time off work and all sorts to play, are able to earn a bit more money. "The headline is 'how good is it that women are now earning this?' - but it is actually only two players per team."

Former captain Andrew Flintoff worked with England on an informal basis last yearThe Northern Superchargers men's team, whose head coach is Andrew Flintoff, will have first pick in this year's draft for The Hundred. First pick in the women's event goes to Birmingham Phoenix, who have retained all-rounders Ellyse Perry of Australia and New Zealand's Sophie Devine. The teams have 75 spots to fill after retaining 137 players. The selection process will be held on Wednesday, 20 March, with The Hundred taking place in July and August. England stars Amy Jones, Dawid Malan and Jason Roy will be among those available to be picked with the full list of players available being confirmed on Monday, 4 March. In November, former England all-rounder Flintoff was appointed by the Northern Superchargers, who finished bottom last season. He has been recovering from injuries sustained in an accident while filming BBC TV show Top Gear in December 2022. Flintoff joined England's coaching set-up during the white-ball series against New Zealand in September. He represented Lancashire in county cricket but the Superchargers role will see him based at Yorkshire's home ground Headingley in Leeds.

The Hundred 2024: Oval Invincibles to host Birmingham Phoenix in opening game..
Two-time women's champions and the current men's holders Oval Invincibles will host Birmingham Phoenix in the opening game of the 2024 Hundred.
The fourth edition of the 100-ball tournament will start on 23rd July and run until the final, again to be held at Lord's, on 18th August.
Women's holders Southern Brave start against London Spirit on 24th July.
The eliminators, between the sides who finish second and third in the group, will be on 17 August at Kia Oval.
The tournament will clash with England men's Test against West Indies at Edgbaston, which is due to start on 26th July, but the women's players have a clear schedule.
Last week, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced £100,000 investment in each of the eight women's teams, with the top salary increasing from £31,250 to £50,000.
As in previous editions, all match days will be double headers, with women's games preceding the men's fixture each day.

David Warner went undrafted for The Hundred after setting a reserve price of £100kDavid Warner was among a number of big names to miss out on selection at The Hundred draft. But former Australia captain Meg Lanning will appear in the women's competition for the first time after being drafted by London Spirit. Andrew Flintoff's Northern Superchargers took West Indies left-hander Nicholas Pooran with the first pick of the men's draft. Birmingham Phoenix picked England's Amy Jones first in the women's draft. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper returns to Edgbaston on the maximum £50,000 women's contract having rejected her retention offer to enter the draft. England Test batter Ollie Pope was selected by Spirit, having played for Welsh Fire in previous seasons. England white-ball star Dawid Malan, who was part of the Trent Rockets side that won the men's competition in 2022, has moved to Oval Invincibles. The 2024 tournament begins with a double-header between Oval Invincibles and Birmingham Phoenix on 23 July, with the finals in both competitions on 18 August at Lord's. Big-name internationals go unsoldWarner headlines the list of top-class internationals who missed out on selection after setting his reserve price at £100k. The Australia opener, who recently retired from Test and one-day international cricket, was certainly not the only star to be passed over. Pakistan star batter Babar Azam was a late addition to the draft but went unsold, alongside team-mate Mohammad Rizwan. Big-hitting Australia all-rounder Tim David, a regular on the franchise circuit, also missed out, as did Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews, Sunil Narine of West Indies and Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. England World Cup winner Jason Roy also went undrafted but could yet earn a spot as a wildcard. It was a similar story in the women's draft with India stars Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues also failing to attract interest. Former New Zealand captain Suzie Bates, who led Oval Invincibles to victory in 2022, and ex-West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin missed out as well. Influx of West Indies and Australia starsIt was a good draft for West Indies players with Andre Russell and Shimron Hetmyer joining Spirit, Rovman Powell heading to Trent Rockets and Kieron Pollard signing with Southern Brave. Scholfield's knock off 40 balls was her maiden half-century in the competition and featured 12 sixes as she and Alice Capsey (52) shared a 90-run stand for the second wicket. Emily Arlott finished the pick of the Phoenix bowlers as she claimed 2-19 but the Invincibles' total of 150-5 put them in a commanding position. Phoenix, who did not win a single match in last year's tournament, had never successfully chased more than 128 in The Hundred. An 11th consecutive defeat for Phoenix felt inevitable when star overseas trio Suzie Bates (6), Ellyse Perry (0) and Sophie Devine (13) failed to make an impact. England opener Danni Wyatt's 59 off 35 balls for the Brave - her seventh half-century in the competition's history - helped the hosts set Spirit a target of 152. Wyatt's England team-mate and fellow opener Maia Bouchier (35) added valuable early runs, as did new Brave captain Georgia Adams (21) and South Africa all-rounder Chloe Tryon (20) at the back end of the innings. In response, London Spirit lost the early wicket of former Australia captain Meg Lanning on 12, dismissed via a caught and bowled from 16-year-old Brave debutant Tilly Corteen-Coleman. The Spirit did however fight back, first via Dan Lawrence, who scored 38, and then via a late flurry of runs from Liam Dawson, who ended not out on 45 off just 19 balls as the Spirit ended on 138-9. The Brave got their chase off to a flying start through their opening batters. Captain James Vince, alongside Dan Hughes (45), put on a 95-run stand for the opening wicket. Vince went on to make 56 before being bowled by opposing captain Lawrence, but by that point, Brave needed just 22 runs to win from the final 28 balls. Batting first, Originals got off to a strong start as South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt (37) and Australia's Beth Mooney put on a 58-run stand before the former departed. From there, the hosts collapsed from 58-0 to 86-6, with Mooney (19) the only other player from Originals' top six to score double figures. Captain Sophie Ecclestone added some late inspiration, ending on 27 not out to help Originals post a score of 113-7. Welsh Fire started their chase of 114 with a big stand - this one 65 runs between England duo Dunkley and Tammy Beaumont, ending when the latter holed out for 31. Fire lost Hayley Matthews and Sarah Bryce cheaply, falling from 65-0 to 73-3 in a 20-ball spell. Match report by Mike Peter, BBC Sport Journalist.Birmingham Phoenix's winless run was extended to 12 matches as they lost by 20 runs to London Spirit in The Hundred women's competition at Lord's. The 2023 bottom side haven't won since mid-way through the 2022 season, and struggled to contain Spirit's Meg Lanning, who struck 53 from the top of the order. The former Australia captain enjoyed partnerships with Cordelia Griffith (21 from 10) and Heather Knight (26 from 18), before falling to the 97th delivery of the innings as Spirit posted 147-9. The Phoenix opened their reply poorly, reaching 27-2 from 30 balls, losing openers Suzie Bates and Sterre Kallis for single-figure scores. Their wickets brought the experienced pair of Ellyse Perry (65) and Sophie Devine (31) to the crease, and they struck 12 boundaries in an 89-run third-wicket partnership. Despite that, Phoenix were behind the rate and the pair were both dismissed by Sarah Glenn in the final ten balls of the innings as they desperately swung for the fence.
