What do you think is the truth philton? After listening to the old guard side of the argument a couple of weeks ago I would say lack of desire to go ahead with the scheme. Of course we haven’t heard the current owners side of why they pulled out to make a balanced view. lack of desire or lack of money?

Philton, I can assure you that it is not aimed at you. I just get fed up with some of the rubbish that is banded about which stirs up and angers Gasheads but then proves to be totally unfounded in fact. The current Board only have themselves to blame as they should understand we live in a 'want info now' world that doesn't understand the value of patience or the fact that there simply might be nothing to actually say.... Anyhow have a good day buddy. With respect, you say that but then make the claim further up that Rovers would have been giving away a large portion of match day income to the UWE, where/what/who is your source for this? As far as I am aware there are no concrete details of the deal with UWE in the public domain and the deal itself seems to be wrapped up tight in confidentiality clauses. When you talk about confidentiality clauses I think you are confusing the previous Board with the current Board. The previous Board leaked like a sieve and directors often used or were aware that a certain individual(s) could be used to pass on information to fans. The fact that "former" directors are happy to open up to fans since then shows that confidentiality clauses meant nothing as they act in perpetuity unless information is officially put into the public sphere. And to quote an old saying "What is truth" Happy Friday

We have to believe them when they said originally that money wouldn’t be an issue. With no evidence at all I get the feeling that there has been a change of heart about ownership of Bristol Rovers with the exception of Wael.

and a snippet from phil, already posted on here..... One of our own ex directors and Merchant Venturers points the blame of the collapse of UWE firmly with the current owners. It's all history now. Dead, deceased, it's f*****g snuffed it!!
which might tie in with knowall's post on 15th December that Wael should 'grow up and admit his mistake', or something like that? He can be very petty in the correspondence I used to have with him. I won’t go into detail other than one message said you are important to me as you are the first Gashead I followed to no response on having a bucket collection for Bailey Coopers family. In my opinion I just don’t think he had any idea of what was coming in running the club. I’d like to think he would be big enough to let go, if he truly did have an offer, for the good of the club. Surely there would be reputational damage were we to go into admin. Lets see how the accounts look. It seems a few are saying we should be prepared for a shock. It’s Rovers we are talking about, I think shock & disappointment is our default setting

If true, it puts Wael in a difficult spot I think

Money's never an issue when people are only talking about it.... Ain’t that the truth. My wonderful father used to say never tell anyone you have no money as they will lend money to those they believe have money. It’s a strange thing that many feel too embarrassed to tell the truth.

I know it's tempting to just round £28.5 into £30, but we are talking about millions of pounds here, it's not as if we are letting the bloke in the kebab shop off of giving us 50p back because he's run out You’ve just reminded me the bloke in local kebab van still owes me a £1

You’ve just reminded me the bloke in local kebab van still owes me a £1 Don't be so mean spirited, take the lead of this forum and just round up the over-payment to £1.5 million.

Of course we haven’t heard the current owners side of why they pulled out to make a balanced view. Didn't they tell us why. I thought they said that UWE didn't respond to communications in a timely way, they reminded UWE of a deadline by which a response was required, no response received, so the deal died. I think that's what they claimed anyway. Have to say, it seemed a bit of an over-reaction, to throw away an entire stadium project, all of those facilities, community assets etc just because a deadline, which they never said that UWE had agreed to, had been missed. But there you go.... Not for the first time, there's more than a hint of double standards here, Higgs would have been slaughtered for this and it wouldn't have been forgotten in the way it seems to have been with these guys. I don't fully understand why these owners are immune from criticism?

I don't know about "immune from criticism". I certainly do my bit. Given that the club have already intimated legal action on one poster on here and others, who do not use the forum, I think many are now worried about open criticism due to the precarious situation we are in. When the club is basically entirely owned by one entity, I’d guess there is a fear that they could pull out. I know that this worries me but I will say what I think but try to use fact, that can be proven in doing so. There certainly has been a sea change in how Wael is viewed & you don’t see the many selfies now. Seems the poster , kid in the riot on Otib has been spot on and very early on.

the following is from gashead 1981 at the other place. I have no insight, but the following does ring true to me....
The ALQs not having the resources or desire on certain sides of our board were the real stumbling blocks. The freehold of the land was not an issue. We were given 150 year lease with an option to extend to 250 years after 5 years.
Hani has no desire to sink money on a large scale into Rovers. Him and his father are the money men. The lack of progress on the colony and absolute no stadium plans for the Mem or other project. Wael has the desire, but he doesn’t have the finance.
UWE, since the collapse, have come back to the table twice more, with negotiated terms on land purchase price, freehold options and build options. When it comes to the crunch, the ALQs don’t have money to sign off on any deal. A very interesting conversation with a UWE board member told me that.
To match the ALQs expectations and desires should I hasten to add.....They wanted to add hotels and other revenue streams to the site and even had plans drawn for it.
also, from wertongas...
I met the UWE Chancellor in Bristol Cathedral when my daughter graduated, at the time he was very enthusiastic about working with Rovers on the project. Enter AQs who brought in Stadium experts, did a feesability study which appears to have indicated the project was not feasible and so tried to re-negotiate, couldn't get what they wanted and pulled out...... Problem is AQ want to have a stadium that will make money, until that happens things will stagnate, which is why we have the colony waistland and improve ments at the Mem paid for by corporate advertising.

My son (9) did this with me recently and went on and on about a Thunderbird 2 model so much that I ordered it on ebay in a moment of weakness.

Agreed, it's the only way to get an old meanie to buy you a ThunderBird 2. He could have saved all that trouble and just bought the thing when first asked, but no, he had to go and get involved in a battle of wills.

Looking forward to Rovers replacing the South Stand with an eBay purchased model of ThunderBird 2. Would be absolutely FAB.

I have seen his posts and right from the takeover, he was completely correct in what he wrote. I got angry as I didn’t want to believe it but he/she has been proved correct on all that was posted.
