Dave
I am asked to write obituaries for former Rovers players over the past 30 years and try my best to be as accurate as possible. In this case you keep banging on about I just made the point that the guy had not made a first team appearance and no stats were mentioned whatsoever.
Not sure why you feel it right to keep having a go....just leave it. You are making yourself look foolish. You and whoever County guy is you both just seem to want to focus on negatives. It is not big and certainly not clever. A sign of immaturity to me but no doubt you two get pleasure from it. Listen life's too short believe me. Move on please
Enjoy your day in Portsmouth next week and the 16000 crowd. Is that nice enough for you Mike? Thanks bambi I am actually avoiding the big queues at the Mary Rose never knew that was so popular and instead being treated on my birthday to four days in Gran Canaria ...sun and sangria with my wife far more attractive than a meaningless cup tie. You enjoy the delights of Fratton.
Many Thanks for the birthday card and for the Bruce Springsteen new book.

A couple of points to add to the Michael Smith debate:-
1) I'm pretty clear that the money received from Peterborough allowed the then Board of Directors to "avoid" an offer in respect of the sale of the Club and remain in control. That summer was pretty grim from a finance point of view.
2) Did Michael Smith marry a Director's daughter? From memory (and it was a good while ago) I thought they may have been engaged at the time?
Perhaps the transfer request was "engineered" to assist us at the time?

No, you're right Mike replying with stats to a persons death was spot on. Dave

It's not Chebacca and County that are making themselves look foolish Mike.

Enjoy your day in Portsmouth next week and the 16000 crowd. Is that nice enough for you Mike? Mike wouldn't be there (birthday or not - Happy Birthday Mike) - it's an away game. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, and I'm sure he does manage the occasional away trip. However, I expect I'll see his running commentary of the game on the Bristol Rovers Appreciation facebook page, as if he really is at the game. They are generally an exact copy of what I've just heard, a minute or so before, on Radio Bristol (without a credit to them). I find it rather odd.

Relaying radio commentary to Facebook for people unable to listen would strike me as a service, rather than anything else.

Relaying radio commentary to Facebook for people unable to listen would strike me as a service, rather than anything else. Yep, there is that, and it has crossed my mind; it happens here too. The thing is the way Mike goes about it - he updates as if he is actually there. I've seen several examples of others then replying to his posts, asking him about the game and what he's posted (i.e. appeals for a penalty), but never once seen Mike reply to say he doesn't know as he is just repeating what he's heard on the radio and isn't at the game. Others may also relay radio commentary, but they usually include things like "... according to Radio Bristol." or "Keith Brookman has just said ... ". I just find it odd the way Mike does it.

I started giving Rovers updates on away games on facebook purely as some people were unable to get radio Bristol in their part of the country or overseas. I do attend some away games Chelsea only so far this season and did Southport, Gateshead, Kiddy and Forest Green (twice) during our Conference season. I also referee youth academy matches some Saturday mornings so wont be updating this Saturday lunchtime so you know !

Getting back to the original post, that's quite a record for Nathan Pond. So he was in the Fleetwood team that was in the NW Counties League 12 years ago. The equivalent to the Western League. That deserves a bit of respect IMO. He looked a decent defender on Tuesday night. I like stories like that because it shows what you can do with the talent you have, the right attitude and oodles of character. I can even forgive him trying to get Montano off the pitch at the end! Frustration I expect and had we been 2-1 down I guess our players would probably have done the same. Well done to the guy to have been so consistent over 12 years and thanks to harry for knowing that stuff. UTG,

UTG, If Leicester can win the PL then Stuart Sinclair can be playing for Rovers against West Ham and Sunderland in League games next season. I have no idea what level Arlesey Town play at, but he was there in 2012. That sort of rise isn't unusual for a youngster, but he's 28 now, that's what you call a late developer, or finding a rough diamond. But please nobody tell Pardew, he'll probably want to take the credit. Going back to Fleetwood, I didn't like the bit about trying to influence the ref, but I did like how miffed their players looked at the final whistle, it looked like losing hurt them, with that attitude they'll win more than they lose.

I also referee youth academy matches some Saturday mornings so wont be updating this Saturday lunchtime so you know ! Super stuff Mike. It's a wonderful service you provide. Yes, you are right, there are lots of Rovers fans who can't get access to the radio commentary. I would do it differently, along the lines of: - Matty Taylor around goalkeeper and nearly scored. (Radio Bristol). or - BBC online: "Goal 2-0 Clarke Salter header from Lines corner." Likewise, if I were to copy photos from the Official BRFC album of match, shortly after they've been posted online, and post them myself to social media, adding my own comments, I would at least quote alongside where I'd got them from. For instance, "... (Credit Jason Brown/JMP- Official BRFC)" or Joe Meredith, or Neil Brookman. Don't go changing just for me though. I often reply to questions on social media and copy sections from books, but always quote my sources, such as (found in "Bristol Rovers - The Definitive History" by Stephen Byrne & Mike Jay) or (taken from "Geoff Bradford - Bristol Rovers Legend" by Ian Haddrell & Mike Jay) or ("Harold Jarman - Bristol Rovers Local Hero" by Mike Jay & Ian Haddrell). All of which are available from good booksellers in store and online. Take away whether or not any copyright laws may or may not have been broken, I just find it common courtesy.
