You're moving the goalposts. Either he was free to leave, or he felt he had to force the issue. Either way, he did nothing wrong. I'd give up if I was you. Crater believes he would of left anyway and it's ridiculous that the club saved some money because he handed in the transfer request. Luckily crater won't ever be involved in the running of the club. Wonder if his (future) father in law had an input to the transfer request? Again you have totally missed the point. You brought another argument into the conversation which was nothing I had even mentioned

Gentlemen. I can see merit in both positions. Formerly and somewhat publicly submitting a transfer request at the club's darkest hours could enrage supporters. But trusting that duplicitous and then increasingly despotic regime to facilitate amicable transfer to a club with which to progress a decent career, this might be career suicide. I don't blame the player for the form or publicity of his escape from hell. I don't blame any supporter for feeling hurt by it. I do suggest more pertinent responsibility lies with other players who performed willfully badly, and with the regime who presided over the whole sorry debacle. We're so well rid.

Where have I suggested that? Um a few posts back (rejected bids) You said he was free to leave. He clearly wasn't, as we were rejecting bids. Were we offered 50p? I doubt it. Were we offered any more once he handed in a request than we were beforehand? Again, I doubt it. But once he made his desire to leave official, he released Rovers from future financial burdens. Why do you continue to hold that against him?

Moreover, this isn't Rooney transfer-listing himself forcing millions more onto his salary. This is a fourth division footballer transfer-listing himself to escape drowning in the non-league sea of Higgs. It's easy to forget just how AWFUL almost everything at this football club then was. Awful.

Awful. Shambolic is a term best suited to that particular episode, everything was done badly, someone said the other day at least he sold to the right person, yes he did, however it didn't help burying so many skeletons, which in turn has delayed the process in moving this club forward, anyway the main thing is everything that was hidden is no in the open and being dealt with professionally, everything is now working well and were looking like a professional football club at last.

No special welcome back for Cian Bolger tonight then, or did I miss it?
He was a youngster thrown to the lions when we had him here, always did the best he could, surely worthy of a sporting west country round of applause?
Edit. If nothing else we could have applauded the fact that he's given up on the bottled blonde hair!

From memory he was signed (albeit on loan) by 3 different managers...has any other player been signed by 3 or more managers? Harry do you know? Expect some were still making eyes at 'Smudger' that they forgot all about someone who was a wholehearted defender who never shirked a challenge and gave it his all in his spells at the club. I clapped Cian for what its worth

Does every ex-player warrant an ovation now?

Does every ex-player warrant an ovation now? Exactly what I was wondering on Saturday. For Smith, the bloke with the mic was bordering on hysterical. Cian's name was mumbled, I barely heard it. He was a youngster who did his best, came back 3 times and picked up a horrible injury wearing our shirt. Maybe someone could explain what the rules are exactly please?

Does every ex-player warrant an ovation now? Cian certainly did in my humble opinion...but hey its a democracy baby so you decide who you wish to clap, nod at in a mans man kinda way, wink at whilst giving a cheeky grin or even get a smudger semi over... Cian was one shining light in some very poor teams so yeah he deserved an acknowledgement

I could be wrong, but I think it boils down to the esteem a player is held in by the the majority of supporters. I quite like Cian Bolger. I thought he was (is?) a better player than Tom Parkes when they were both on loan here. We signed one and not the other. However, Bolger was just a serial loanee, while Smith won player of the season twice. I can see why one got a better reception than the other.

For what it's worth, I think Nick let himself down and was disrespectful to Cian by just mumbling his name, I can't think of any examples right now, but isn't it normal to give a 'sporting round of applause' to most returning players? Maybe just an oversight, Nick usually gets this type of thing right.

The issue is though Mike if you can't take it don't dish it out. Either that or block the posters whose opinions you don't like.
