I'm assuming people mean 'neutrals' would be seated in one of the 'old man stands'(only a few years away for me now..... legs soooo tiiiired....) around the half way line, rather than in either end.
I have no problem with Ellis being there, as long as he wasn't in the away end.
The only issue is that he would, almost inevitably if spotted, make it onto social media. Should he have thought of that before going?
A bit - what could happen has happened, after all. He is a local celebrity - I'd say more famous than David Garmston, but not as famous as Tony Target.
Local celebrities have to play the game a bit and be careful of what they say and do.
BUT that should be a minor concern, not enough to make him not got to the game, and I certainly think he should be allowed to carry on with his twitter account if he wants to now.

Whenever I've been given comps, its been in a home area. Some grounds its the directors box or nearby, and reasonably comfortable, and some put you right amongst the home fans. I've never been given away end comps, unfortunately. Although its been a very long time since I've asked for or been offered a comp. Ellis hasn't done anything wrong here. He fell victim to a (very basic) prank on Twitter, and the reaction has been well over the top. I'm still waiting to learn more about his attitude from fellow forumers though. Should be fascinating. I don't get the Ellis hasn't done anything wrong as if it's OK to support the 82'ers in an away match why hasn't any other Rovers player ever done it as far as we know, and why don't we get C1ty players in the Blackthorn End?? If they just wanted to watch a mate play for the 82'ers why didn't they just get seats in the stand where it wouldn't be so obvious they were watching/supporting C1ty.

Here's my take; speculation I admit, but wouldn't mind betting it's not far off the mark. - Ellis (and probably other Rovers players) may socialise with some that play for City. - He is probably friendly with players that have also represented Wales (Wes Burns? Born in Cardiff and played for U21s). - Wes Burns was not in the City side that faced Cardiff. - This was a bubble match. There is no way someone who isn't a City fan would bother buying a ticket in advance, then travelling to a service station en route to the ground to pick the ticket up. - Now, how many footballers do you know that would pay to watch this match? The chances are he was offered complimentary tickets by someone like Burns. Being offered a freebie with your mates is something I can understand. - So basically it's all down to whoever had the tickets where they sit in the ground. He couldn't walk up to the away end and pay on the night. - It seems to me that Ellis has been stitched up. I expect he expected to be sitting in the players area, then got to the ground to realise he'd been stitched up and was in with the away lot. That maybe the case but surely there's a unwritten rule in football that you don't go and support your local rivals and, if you do, then you make sure your sat in the stand so you can just appear a neutral observer than a fan of your local rivials? Given the stick EH took about his comments on Twitter following the previous match he knew full well what reaction he'd receive if he was spotted at the game. It really is time he grew up or he could find himself playing non league football again next season. - I wouldn't call that 'supporting'; my view is he just went to watch a football match. - He would have been bound by wherever his mates had the tickets for (if that really was the away end). - I doubt very much he would have bothered going if it wasn't a freebie. For the record, I think THEY were probably naive at worst, but certainly don't deserve the stick HE's been getting.

I'm not disputing it in the slightest but is there actually any proof that Gosling was there?
Harrison's problem is that he's front and centre of the 'prank' photo and he's also got a bit of previous. Doesn't make it any better that he's getting all the stick but it's pretty clear why!
I thought we might get a bit of a statement from player or club after the Post got hold of it but they seem to have gone into lockdown mode.

In the good old days Ray Kendall would get all the players unused comp tickets at away games and then have a little wander round giving them to any Rovers fans he saw.

I know what they should say, but that would upset the sensitive souls

I just hate this aspect whereby some fans think they have the right to pass judgement on what a player gets up to at any point in their lives - it makes me very queasy, like I'm a member of some kind of stalkers collective.
I honestly don't think it is any of my business what any Rovers player gets up to other than the 90 minutes he is playing in a game. That is the only point at which I have any right to pass judgement or to consider that player to be in any sense a 'public figure'. Where they go out, who they hang out with and what they do and say in their spare time is simply none of my business and I have no right judging them on that. If what they are doing is detrimental to their performance on the pitch (which this laughably isn't) then that is potentially the business of Rovers as their employer but it's absolutely none of my business as a fan which begins and ends with the couple of hours they are doing their job on the pitch.
I absolutely hate this aspect of modern football where fans act as self-appointed policemen of players and amateur psychologists. Player said 'x' on twitter 'disrepectful - clearly implies this, this and this'. Saw player down the pub drinking beer 3 days in a row 'unprofessional....blah, blah, blah'. When I pay my money to go to a football match I think on some level I have the right to judge the performances of those I have paid to watch, I have no right whatsoever to make judgements about their personalities, their actions outside of those 90 minutes still less do I have any right at all to impose an arbitrary set of expectations on those actions. I find it genuinely disturbing. Ellis is 21 years old - if when I was 21 years old I had some kind of random mob of people judging my every action and online utterance I hate to think what effect that would have had on me. A footballer has an much right to privacy in their every day life as anybody else.

I would also add he is a young man who had a very serious allegation made against him which could have made a big difference to his life. At his age after that I would want to try and enjoy myself (within reason as a professional athlete) without a bunch of thicko fans watching and analysing my every move

All I see is a guy getting a load of stick for daring to go and watch a football match, and worse it appears Ellis seems to be someone people like to pick on
Other players have been given far more slack for doing a lot worse.
I am for a bit of rivalry, wanting to do better than City, but the whole tribalism thing is a bit old hat. Football seems to be the only sport where this happens and there would be any uproar at all. The whole reaction to this non story is the sort of thing that gives football fans a bad name. Why does there have to be some faux hatred for the opposition. It’s pathetic.
How many of us how friends that support City. Should we not socialise with that sort or something?
I mean how could any Rovers fan ever play for City. I guess that’s okay because it was Kitey’s job, it was Danny Coles’ job etc.
Who decides what is or isn’t acceptable on the matter? No doubt half those slating Ellis would be tweeting him how brilliant he was if he was ripping the p*ss out of them.
Even if we all agreed it was stupid of Ellis to go (which we don’t), it’s far less stupid than the reaction it has generated by football fans who worry to much

Appreciate that I'm an outsider and that I don't come from a two team city but I find some of the comments on here unbelievable. I have pretty equal numbers of City and Rovers fans as friends and neither are any better or worse than the others and I like them all the same. They are all humans first and foremost and have wives/husbands, families, friends of the other persuasion. So why all the hatred, I genuinely have no idea. Half of it seems to come from people trying to look hard in front of their mates or trying to be a little bit funnier.... eg. "Ooh, I'd better disinfect my hands because I shook the hand of an 82-er today!. Good grief, grow up. Adults?

Just to add to what I said earlier in this thread, has anyone thought that he might of made a day of it in South Wales? After training go over visit family and friends and take in a match with tickets he was given by Welsh team mates? The easiest thing most could do with their Twitter account is delete it, but failing that un follow Ellis if the sort of juvenile banter he puts on his stream offends so much?? Ellis is a lad of the 21st century living his ordinary life out for people who are old enough to know better, and he's trying to 'sex' it up by being a bit of a tit, don't rise to it I'm sure far worse happened in years gone by, before the World Wide Web came along!!!

Gosling can clearly be seen in the photo, he's wearing a North Face jacket. I don't think the club should be commenting on what is basically a non-event.
