going out on loan - unfit and not doing enough

John-Joe O’Toole could leave the Cobblers on loan after manager Chris Wilder declared himself unhappy with both the player’s contribution to the team and his fitness levels.
Midfielder O’Toole was left out of the matchday squad entirely for the FA Cup first-round tie against Rochdale despite not being injured but could return to first-team action for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game at Leyton Orient on Tuesday night.
O’Toole signed a three-year contract at Sixfields in the summer and arrived as something of a marquee signing having scored 15 times for Bristol Rovers last season and winning a place in the PFA team of the year for league two.
But he has been largely a bit-part player at Northampton and has failed to score in his 17 appearances for the club to date.
“He’s a stand-out player and he should be doing a lot more when he plays,” said Wilder. “Maybe we haven’t got him in a place where physically he can’t do that and we need to look at ourselves in terms of that.
“To be a footballer and to be the way we expect him to play, he has to be getting around the park a lot more.
“We’ve clipped DVDs together of what he did last year and what he has done this year and we feel like he’s off the pace.
“He should be a big player for us and at the moment he’s not a stand-out. We expect players like him, Marc Richards and Zander Diamond to be big players for us, and John-Joe is in the bracket but the others have been and he hasn’t.
“We have to find a solution because just doing ‘okay’ isn’t good enough either for us or for him.”
When asked if such a solution might be to send the player out on loan, Wilder said: “It might be, if something comes in and can guarantee him games. We can’t use our first team to get him fit.
“He has to work harder on the training ground and maybe we have to put more work on for him. We take responsibility for that and he needs to work harder on the pitch.”
