Oh JJ you keep signing these 3 year contracts miles away from your beloved London/Essex, maybe if you stopped following the cash you might be able to concentrate on the football you can be half decent at when you feel like it. You could have been a god, but now you are just a rich greasy-gypsy-looking nob.. Do not worry, he no doubt has the same contract we stupidly gave him.
Three years plus a clause that he could walk away after twelve months on a "free" if he wished.
That really p*ssed DC off.
As you say stupid contract. In your opinion which paid employee/board member was responsible for this stupidity?

Hardly JJ's fault we got ourselves relegated. He actually did us a favour by leaving as paying his wages on a reduced playing budget would have been problematic. Issue was the spectacular mismanagement that got us into this mess. I know it's not like he was paid to get results for Bristol Rovers

The only other two involved must have been the Chairman and the Financial Director who agreed to this contract. I'm sure their defence is that they backed the managers decision. I can imagine the abuse they would have got if it emerged that the Board did not support the manager.

John Ward was not in charge of contracts or any club finances. Or you would hope he wasn't...

The Chairman appoints the manager who is expected to assemble a team and clearly JW wanted JJoT and persuaded NH that he would be a good addition to the club, he knew him from when he was manager of Colchester, I assume NH did not know how good or bad he was.
Most Chairmen would back their manager, unless the terms of the contract were farcical. NH has always said a manager is there to manage, not for the Chairman to select players to bring in, unless you are GD, ala Tillson, Waddock and another.
Still it's all water under the bridge now, although it will be interesting to see if JJoT leaves Northampton at the end of the season for free.

Oh good, more O'Toole chat - our new obsession. Lines and Pipe must feel very dejected. I know - personally I think it's high time we started talking about the ins and outs of grouting. The long-term implications to Rovers of using incorrect grouting procedures are simply dire and it is an area that has been scandalously neglected by the board, consecutive managers and a complacent and apathetic fanbase who are not holding the club to account for their continued persistant pigheaded refusal to adopt modern grouting methods. Marvellous....I've been waiting for ages for someone to start a topic of conversation about grouting, it's so more interesting than talking about current or former players.....I predict a long running thread on this

He doesn't handle any contracts though. The finances of the club are the boards responsibility. John Ward should go to them with the players he wants and the board should vet them based on what we can afford not their ability. Higgs should have said "Yes it would be great to have O'Toole here but we are not paying those wages and offering those long contracts at this club. Im not going to tell you who and who not to get but these are the limits of our spending power" John Ward won't know the finances of the club so he shouldn't be agreeing the contracts.
