He made mistakes , served his time move on. That said what he has to offer from a footballing perspective wont be enough for us now.

I bet a lot of the people who harp on about so-called 'tax dodgers' read the Guardian. Now, there is a company that hasn't paid any tax in the UK for years and years !
Oh, and Hughes is too old.

Balanta and Della-Verde could cause havoc at this level. Agree with this in principle. In practice we'll need to get Balanta fit and on the field as Della-Verde is only on loan for a month. Will be interesting to see if DC throws him straight in at Tranmere on Saturday.

Even if you ignore his past why do we need to sign another FGR reject, surely if he's got good enough for them he's got going to be any better for us? Add his past to the equation and surely it's not worth the hassle?
Tubbs is an odd one as why's his career nose diving so rapid?

So Steve lets his minions pay his taxes for him? Nice bloke. Balanta and Della-Verde could cause havoc at this level. The clue is in the word "Employer's". But you're right, I'd rather he forked over 45% of his few million a year for George Osborne to send troops to Syria rather than re-invest it in the growth of his business that will generate 30% on £162,000,000 per year plus 13.8% (payable by the employer) on everything they pay employees, plus providing jobs for 850 people who will also pay tax who will spend their money in local bars and clubs and shops and services who will also pay tax who also have employees who pay tax who spend their money at clubs and bars and shops and services who will also pay tax ... like some sort of economic cycle ... wish they had a name for that. I don't believe Balanta exists. Of course people like chewy can't accept the fact that pantsdown was happy paying at 45% he was only unhappy & upped sticks when Labour raised that 45% to 50%

PS: should've said by the letter of the law Hughes has done his time & now is free to get on with his life. My concern in signing is that he doesn't appear to be that great a player at this level.
On the moral point if rovers shouldn't sign Hughes should they not have a list of convictions at the turnstile that says if you've got one of these you are not welcome as a paying customer?

Do you actively avoid spending time in the UK to avoid tax like Steve does? Yes, whilst I was in the Channel Islands, so what's your point?
Has he done anything wrong? Suggest you start on Amazon, Dyson etc etc who all legally arrange their finances to provide prices their customers appreciate. I am a regular user of Amazon and no end of "righteous" individuals will make me shop elsewhere
I hate the fact people can avoid the higher rate of income tax by taking shares, flogging them and paying 20% capital gains tax, worse scum than benefit cheats in my opinion!!!!!!

I couldn't give a toss about the moral point. It's just Hughes is 38 ! Blimey, I'd happily have Ched Evans in the team if he scored the goals that took us back up. Hell, I'd even offer him my sister for those cold dark lonely nights if he scored enough for us ! But Hughes is 38 and in reality he offers nothing to our football club.

No attendance from me if Hughes signed on the dotted line! Would be a shame, I've been hugely enjoying my home and away trips this season. A part of me hopes the club would put a blocker on any such move though, given how they handled Pipe as soon as it was clear he was a guilty man. We will see. I guess that that was because Pipe let BRFC down with his actions. Hughes didn't do what he did as an employee of BRFC. In any case, I wouldn't sign him for football reasons.

They are using the law to maximize their income. Nothing wrong with that. If you have a problem with it, then talk to your MP. After all, they are the ones who make the laws.

Tax when you sell shares
What you pay it on Work out your gain Selling shares in the same company
Investment clubs Tax relief
1. What you pay it on
You may have to pay Capital Gains Tax if you make a profit (‘gain’) when you sell (or ‘dispose of’) shares or other investments.

So you think if he wasn't paying his 45% his business would go tits up? That's an astonishingly bonkers claim. Angelo does exist and he can walk on ceilings. "re-invest it in the growth of his business" - meaning he could have MORE employees and be generating MORE income to pay MORE Corporation Tax and MORE Employer's NIC and have MORE people spend MORE money to businesses who have employees who could grow to generate MORE income to pay MORE tax to employ MORE employees who would etc etc - I still wish they'd invent a name for all that. I want to see us really shored up in the middle. Be nice to see D-V solid in the centre with some really good distribution - it could set us alight. Steve Lansdown is no longer at Hargreaves Lansdown.
