As I left the ground a Southport fan was saying to his mate 'Well we didn't deserve to lose that!' I have to agree with him really but in strange way enjoyed seeing us scrape a win when we didn't play that well. Lots of commitment in defence which was great.
I can claim to have been there the last time we played them in 1974. A better team then but a better result today!

Firstly excellent win but we could so easily let it go. Each game I see reminds me how scrappy this league is. Although the ref booked several of their players they were holding, pulling, shoving and so on and I think we need to get smarter in how we deal with it. At times we were caught out by their antics. Trotman was good in the air but we did lose a lot of headers to their 23. We do also still love a good punt out at times. I was pleased with Sinclair and Harrison challenging in the air even lost causes but putting their players off. When the latter came on for the first few minutes he seemed to tear into them, but then inexplicably wandered out to the left and got bogged down. He is however getting back to good form. Whilst I felt at times they had no one to win it for them it was still nail biting as we gave away free kicks just outside the box. Loose balls, long punts and the lack of a challenge sometimes let us down but it is good to be able to come away from a scrappy game with 3 points and be able to feel that we are going to be up there with the pack. Well done Gas. Lovely to see some old friends including Mandy from North Wales who is officially no longer classed as a jinx! Keep The Faith!

Went to a game up there midweek but 2pm KO I seem to recall. Think it was 73/74 and we won if I recall 2.1. Early KO due to the 3 day week and power cuts. Crowd tiny but quite a few Rovers. sadly your memory must be dodgy. we had never won there until today.

5 wins on the trot, well done Rovers. By the way,Clarke out! Not a great game today, good goal after 12 minutes; then decided to defend for the rest of the game, ending up bringing on McChrystal and going with five across the back. I just wish Clarke would show some enthusiasm, ever since he took a battering at Braintree, he has sat on his arse hiding in the dug out. UTG

I just wish Clarke would show some enthusiasm, ever since he took a battering at Braintree, he has sat on his arse hiding in the dug out. UTG I've got no problem with this. Any shouting and bawling from the touchline is far more effective when it is used only when needed. It may well be that sitting back calmly, viewing the game, gives DC a better understanding of how the game is going: where he can exploit the opposition, or where he needs to counter the opposition. That then helps with decision making - if necessary: when and where to change formation, and when and where to make substitutions. I've seen plenty of managers showing enthusiasm on the touchline, but they get caught up up in the moment, get too emotionally involved, send mixed messages to the players, ending up with confusion on the pitch. Remember Garry Thompson waving his arms around? I can't remember the first few managers I watched Rovers under (Don Megson and Bobby Campbell) ever leaving the dug-out. As a manager your role is motivation and tactics before kick-off; as they say, once the players have crossed the white line...

Have to say i think it has been a good move by DC. He has taken a step back and not got so involved on the touchline and trying to kick everything and making changes.
Perhaps he is seeing the game better and not winding himself up so much

Results haven't been too scruffy since he let MS and SY patrol the technical area. (Some top clubs are doing that too, I saw on MOTD)

Not sure you can equate sitting in the dug out with not showing enthusiasm. How many managers have jumped around for effect and are now ex managers? Can't think of his name but the Germany manager in the World Cup was a pretty laid back character - seems to have produced the results.

Having listened to Richard Hoskin and Radio Bristol's excellent commentary and after match interview with Jake Gosling, I am very much looking forward to watching the (wonder) goal from yesterday on Gas Player when it's uploaded. Did anyone see BristolRoversFan12 filming for his youtube channel at the match as I do enjoy watching his video's too?
