Stunning silence from the usual suspects on here in the face of the disgraceful historic abuse of children by the "Christians" in our established religion.
What, no riots? No calls for instant justice? Nothing. Just silence.
Says it really

I am not a christian, however I was thinking about this whilst listening to the radio when they were talking about whether the archbishop of Canterbury should resign (of course he should)
The difference seems to be that this was one disgusting child abuser who the church covered up for whereas Rochdale/Rotherham etc etc etc were carried out by groups of disgusting child abusers... In my perfect World there would be no disgusting child abusers but if there were they would be harshly treated as would anyone who covered up for them, their religion would be irrelevant.

Wobbled. Nope, still see it the same way. Some on here jump up and down over certain crimes, their outrage particularly heightened when the alleged perpetrators of crime are Muslim, immigrants or black skinned, often assuming they are immigrants if they are black skinned. But here we have the most disgusting abuse of children perpetrated by members of the protestant (the Catholics are already well documented) Christian faith, by a named white guy in this instance, who the Church hierarchy did nothing about other than aid and abet his move to South Africa where, guess what, he allegedly carried on his disgusting and criminal behaviour. And from the usual suspects on here? Nothing. I think it is entirely legitimate to query that.

It is not just religion Oldie. As a Christian I am disgusted not just at the abuse but by the very hard work and sustained efforts made to cover up their crimes. Those who cover up the crime are also guilty as if they assisted the abuse.
Churches stand out as they are an organisation and you can see their members and those who abused stand out as such. You could look at it another way and say all those not in a church could be said to be atheists and agnostics and their abuse levels far higher as there are no regulations to control them such as the safeguarding put in place in many religious institutions these days. But that is not a dignified way to address the appalling abuse.
I know from charity work that abuse appears in all walks of life. The police is a particular area where I have spoken to a number of victims who felt they couldn't go to the authorities. Scouts, Guides, the Military, Parliament, and so on. Every walk of life. Look at the disgustingly low success rates in rape prosecutions.
What needs to be done is for victims to believed more and to stop pussy footing around when people are found out. Especially with those who cover up the crimes. They are as guilty as the perpetrators. Anyone at any level in society who covers up should be charged as such and prosecuted, even if that is the Police Commissioner, military leaders or in this case the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I cannot disagree with any of that Cheshire. My point is those that shout loudest about Muslims and immigrants when issues such as this arise are silent on this issue.

I would punish any pedophile the same as each other, regardless of what the piece of s**ts religious faith, or lack of it is.
I personally highlight Islam pedophiles because..
A) this is not a Muslim country, and we are continuing to import high levels of muslim rapists into our country,Knowingly understanding that its acknowledged in their faith that they are able to have intercourse with children that are under age.
B) The high number of pedophiles cases in Islam compared to any other religion here, or walk of life is unchallengeable.
I said on another thread earlier about my father's suicide in 2009.
One of the issues I've found out after his death, which I didn't know before was that my father was a war baby and put into a Catholic children's home in Bath where he was raped and abused for years as a child.
I know now for a fact, after speaking to family members that this haunted him for the rest of his life even though he never told me about it.
Pedophiles are the ultimate evil, regardless of their faith.

Did Oxfam learn from their sex scandal in Haiti eg? Oh and quick explanation to say myself and BT reacted to this C of E scandal . Deflection. That incident was way before my time. But my understanding is that the perpetrator was prosecuted, the Chief Exec resigned and the charities commission hauled Oxfam across the coals. I know for a fact now that safeguarding is right at the top of operational priorities and robust systems are in place. I hope that answers your question, albeit a silly question in an attempt to deflect

I will challenge this "The high number of pedophiles cases in Islam compared to any other religion here, or walk of life is unchallengeable." Given the historic nature of abuse in the Catholic Church and now we discover in the Protestant branch, can that be possibly true?
