Let's be honest, he offers nothing in thought and debate but he is an outlet for people's frustrations. That is very clear. Will he, can he, supply a solution to those frustrations? There is no evidence to suggest he can. People on lower incomes in the States have seen a real erosion of their financial positions, mostly due to inflation. Inflation started by Trump when during his previous tenure he pumped demand by $8trillion with debt sourced money, the impact of COVID and then of course the energy markets due to the issues in Ukraine. They chose to blame Biden and reappoint the guy who kicked off this economic issue. Trump, ultimately, is a useful idiots for much darker forces in play. If democracy holds over the next four years then at the end of this period the same people who voted for him at the lower end of the income scale will be even worse off as he loads more debt onto the national balance pushing a rise in interest rates (the bond markets are already factoring this in), and import tariffs he proposed will push up the cost of goods in the shops. Where to then? |
