Trump’s running mate JD Vance arrives to standing ovation at Republican convention..by Brandon Livesay at the convention, and Sam Hancock.ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/0379/live/b14b9e20-42ed-11ef-96a8-e710c6bfc866.jpgDonald Trump is in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, two days after he survived an assassination attempt The former president named JD Vance, the senator of Ohio, to be his running mate and vice-president if he returns to the White House Vance was once a Trump critic, but he has since become one of the candidate's most trusted defenders on Capitol Hill and in the media ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/15/85948b6e-02b6-4cc6-a5f5-7474a3426fa3.jpgBorn James David Bowman in Middletown, Ohio in 1984, Vance comes from a white, working class family mostly of Scottish-Irish decent. He was raised by his maternal grandparents in the once-booming Appalachian coal country that is now one of the country's poorest areas. Vance joined the Marines for four years and served in Iraq before going to Ohio State University, where he received degrees in political science and philosophy. From there, he attended Yale Law School, and then wrote a successful memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, that some reviewers described as offering a window into a conservative white working class that is often overlooked. In 2017, Vance moved back to Ohio from California, where he had been working in biotech, and set up his own venture capital operation with support from PayPal founder Peter Thiel, a sometime libertarian and rare Republican in Silicon Valley. In early 2021, Thiel gave $10m (£8m) to a committee seeking to recruit Vance as a Senate candidate. Once Vance joined the race, he abruptly changed his tone regarding Trump, apologising for previously calling him "reprehensible" and even repeating the president's false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election. With an endorsement from Trump, he clinched the Senate seat and has since become an influential voice in Washington.

I've read some ludicrous nonsense on here in the past but rarely has it reached the heights of Donald Trump, of all people, becoming some kind of Saint-like figure, deserving of the adoration of the US electorate and indeed the whole world.
I wish the man no harm and regret very much that such a thing could happen (more likely in guns-for-all America), but of course the events of that day have not affected Trump's suitably or otherwise to be the President.
I do not believe for one second any of you think Trump has emerged as a hero from this. I do believe you're saying it on here because it suits your agenda, but you know it's complete twaddle.

Um....she's following the Constitution. Which part? "Judge Aileen Cannon says the justice department's appointment of special prosecutor Jack Smith violates the US Constitution" - from an earlier post.

Because if it is, then it brings into question your mindset, one that goes into to such length, in order to just wind me up. We have to remember that you have said you support Reform and Nigel Farage, the UK's very own Trumpian politician.

Sorry Oldie, but I have openly stated on here many times that I think Trump is an idiot. However, I do think it is an attack on Democracy when we witness these stupid legal battles in the courts that have been brought by the Democrats in an attempt to stop him running for the Presidency. You are constantly on here supporting these legal cases and you cannot see that these cases are actually helping Trump get re-elected. All they have pinned on him so far are a Misdemeanor which we all know will be thrown out on appeal. Being a Reform supporter in no way makes anyone a Trump supporter. In the same way that although I voted for Reform it does not mean I agree with everything Farage says or does. You really should stop this tribal nonsense. It's the politics of the blinkered.

Tears of emotion and prayers as Donald J Trump arrives on stage at the Republican National Convention , Milwaukee.
Trump also appeared emotional with the welcome he recieved.
His running mate will be James D Vance. A man that once apparently likened Trump to Hitler. Not the first to change their mind about the Republican presidential candidate.

Bandaged Donald Trump gets rapturous welcome two days after assassination attempt..by Rob Crillyi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/16/03/87382117-13637217-image-a-17_1721097364124.jpgDonald Trump was greeted with chants of 'fight, fight, fight,' as he strode into the Republican convention on Saturday barely two days after surviving an assassination attempt. The former president wore a bandage on his right ear where the bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks ripped through his skin. It could have been his wake, but after officially securing his nomination and anointing Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, Trump arrived for a celebration. He walked to the 'family suite' of oversized armchairs, surrounded by the royal family of MAGA: Vance, his sons Eric and Don Jr. (who had tears in his eyes), daughter Tiffany, former Fox news anchor Tucker Carlson and other senior Republicans. And his supporters echoed the defiant words he used on Saturday when he picked himself up from the ground, his face bloodied. 'Fight, fight, fight,' echoed through the arena. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/16/06/87385875-13637217-image-a-1_1721108253009.jpg

Which part of the Constitution? The appointments clause of the US Constitution. Correct So, precedent is this "A special prosecutor is a prosecutor who is independent of an office that would normally exercise jurisdiction in a criminal investigation—to avoid potential conflicts of interest or to facilitate subject matter area expertise. At the federal level, under 28 CFR § 600.1, a special prosecutor is referred to as a “special counsel,” and may be appointed by the attorney general to criminally investigate an individual or matter in cases where a Justice Department investigation would present a conflict of interest, or in other “extraordinary circumstances.” Under Supreme Court precedent in Morrison v. Olson, Congress may also appoint a special counsel through the passage of legislation. Notable special counsels in U.S. history include Ken Starr of the Clinton Whitewater investigation and Lawrence Walsh of the Iran-Contra Affair." So on what basis did Judge Cannon determine that the appointment of the special prosecutor, appointed by Merrick Garland the Attorney General, breach the constitution and precedent set in jurisprudence?

Well Then it's a balance of evidence. Do we choose to cast out votes for known idiots such as Trump & Farage, even just as a protest, or do we compromise on the least worse option? What doesn't help us the continuous line of attack on the media and judiciary. Because that avenue is exactly the line taken by Trump and Farage.
