I can't find the post or thread it was on, but someone mentioned the possibility of civil war in France, whereupon they were derided by Oldie.
Well.......
" Emmanuel Macron warns France on brink of 'civil war' over election he called
Mr Macron said: "I think that the solutions given by the far right are out of the question because it is categorising people in terms of their religion or origins and that is why it leads to division and to civil war."
He expressed similar concerns about the policy proposals tabled by the extreme left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI), a leading partner in the New Popular Front coalition.
The French leader added: "But that one as well, there is a civil war behind that because you are solely categorising people in terms of their religious outlook or the community they belong to, which in a way is a means of justifying isolating them from the broader national community, and in this case, you would have a civil war with those who do not share those same values.""

I mentioned it Nobby on the 2024 thread...I was accused of "advocating violence"....IF Macron believes what he is saying about a potential civil war does he accept responsibility for it by calling the election? I really think that they are in a dangerous situation over there and it could have major consequences for the EU....we are well out of it.

For clarity I derided the idea that this "civil war" would be welcome because it would destroy France and subsequently the EU.
In that claim, it was hoped the candidate from the far left would be the catalyst for that.
Here, Macron is warning of the dangers of the far right. Macron is right, but any extreme group or party are a potential danger to a civil society.
He has taken a huge gamble which personally I think he will lose. From where I sit it appears the centre of French politics is dissatisfied with him and as it appears there is no viable centre ground candidate the extremes of left and right come into play to fill the vacuum.
If the Labour Party do not deliver, on the presumption they win, then this is where we will end up.

A mate of mine that moved to France about 6 years ago ,told me ,'Islam or not' is a growing serious issue. In the scenario the French turn against Islam in a violent way then it could spread around Europe,UK and further. Too many French,Germans, Swedish,British etc are absolutely sick of Islam. Peaceful deportations on mass is preferable to bloodshed .

We can only hope 'Labour has promised to put planning reform at the centre of its pitch for economic growth, particularly when it comes to infrastructure. Daren Jones, shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, told the FT in May that he plans to merge the existing Infrastructure and Projects Authority and the National Infrastructure Commission to create an organisation at the “heart of government” to get a grip on the issue. “Investors look at the UK and don’t believe we’re going to build the things we say we’re going to build,” he said From CityAM 'Dominic Veney, finance director of Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), told the Times that the UK was a banana economy, where the ethos was “build absolutely nothing anywhere near anything (or anybody)”. www.cityam.com/move-aside-nimbys-theres-a-new-acronym-britain-is-now-a-banana-economy/

Bulls**t media,no friend of the UK. Recently, 3 of the 4 hostages saved by Israeli forces ,were found captive in an Al Jazeera reporters house. This media is an enemy of Britain.

The Tory betting scandal...ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/25/4a446c4e-3cb4-4f03-9245-4cc44b7d2af4.jpgIt emerged earlier this month that Craig Williams - one of the prime minister's closest aides - had reportedly placed a £100 bet on a July polling day three days before Rishi Sunak called it. Williams, standing for the Tories in Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr, refused to say if he had placed a bet on the basis of inside information. Laura Saunders, the Conservative candidate for Bristol North West, and her partner Tony Lee, the Conservative director of campaigning, are also under investigation by the Gambling Commission - as is Nick Mason, the party's chief data officer. PM Rishi Sunak said this week he was "incredibly angry" and the Conservative Party has now said it can "no longer support" Williams or Saunders at the election. Labour leader Keir Starmer says: "Why didn’t that happen a week ago?" While Lib Dem deputy leader Daisy Cooper says it should have happened "immediately", but that "instead Rishi Sunak has dithered and delayed". She also challenges Sunak to confirm that the candidates will not sit as Conservatives, if elected.

Don't I know it love. uk.news.yahoo.com/intolerant-farage-supporters-grown-debate-180000485.html"I got myself into a vat of boiling oil for saying we should turn our heads to the wall from Mr Farage’s sort of bitter and divisive populism. My column was greeted with such outrage and affront that I knew I was onto something. I’ve learned how to spot the emergence of a herd opinion, by how its members begin copying and repeating each other’s words and memes. Thus I was accused repeatedly of “elitism”, “sneering”, “condescension”, “drivel”, Yep. 😂😂

Queen guitarist Brian May sparks fury with politics rant as he fumes at 'disastrous' Brexit and makes election stance clear..by Alex Davies.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/01/17/11/80085527-12969461-Brian_told_the_audience_Now_that_we_don_t_have_Freddie_this_now_-a-12_1705492176072.jpgQueen guitarist Brian May, 76, has been met with rather angry reactions from some of his followers this week after unleashing a lengthy rant about the upcoming General Election. The musician shared the front page of a newspaper that warned a Labour majority would be a "disaster" for the UK, prompting his angered retort. "Now I really have to laugh!!! Disaster?!!! The only disaster would be if we FAIL to annihilate this unspeakably inept and corrupt Tory Government this time around. VOTE!!! Bri," he penned in an Instagram story post alongside an image of said paper. However, May continued his political rant in a separate post on his main page in which he accused the current Conservative government of being an "arrogant, dishonest, corrupt, (and) awful bunch". After describing the newspaper in question as "an organ of propaganda for the Tory party", he let loose: "When you see headlines like this, remind yourself gently that a succession of unelected Tory leaders have ruined Britain over the past 12 years. "Arrogant, dishonest, corrupt, this awful bunch brought us the disaster of Brexit, one of the world's worst responses to Covid 19, directly responsible for the unnecessary death of many of our old folks, poverty for many, filthy water, broken promises on addressing global warming." May isn't the only musician to find himself on the receiving end of criticism for expressing his staunch political views of late. Rod Stewart, 79, faced "booing" from crowds in Germany this month after putting on a public display of support for Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. May's rant comes as pollsters predict a Labour landslide victory on July 4.
