Update: Experts use remote controlled underwater vehicles to try to access Sicily yacht..by Mark Lowen, Reporting from Sicilyi2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article33491430.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_Screenshot-2024-08-19-at-092223.jpgFor a third straight day, the divers will be racing to reach the cabin of the Bayesian super yacht, helped by remote controlled vehicles that can operate on the seabed for far longer than the rescuers themselves. It is no longer survivors that they are trying to find, but bodies: of the six missing passengers, likely sleeping inside when the ship was hit by a tornado-like water spout, which tossed it underwater. Dr Fabio Genco, from the Palermo Emergency Medical Services, treated the 15 survivors when they were brought ashore. The word that all the injured kept repeating was darkness. The darkness they all experienced during the shipwreck. They spoke of about five minutes, from the moment the boat was lifted, raised by the waves of the sea, until it sank. British investigators are here in Sicily, working to assess the disaster and whether measures were taken on board to mitigate the extreme weather, like closing hatches: all secrets that the Bayesian may have taken down with it to the bottom of the ocean.

Update: Four bodies brought to shore from luxury yacht wreck off Sicily..by Sean Seddon, with Bethany Bell reporting from Sicilyichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/7a6a/live/43309fa0-5fc9-11ef-8c32-f3c2bc7494c6.jpgFour bodies may have been found in a relatively short space of time this afternoon, but the search continues for the two people still missing after the Bayesian luxury yacht sank on Monday. We're yet to be told the identities of those who've been found today. Italian officials are likely informing families and loved ones before releasing information to the wider public, and the media. Another body - of the boat's chef, Recaldo Thomas - was found on Monday. Divers will be traumatised, says rescue expert..Thomas Copeland, Live reporterThe team of divers searching for bodies on the sunken Bayesian yacht will be deeply traumatised, an expert has told the BBC. "For myself and for my team of divers, it's always very difficult if you have to do this job," says Bertrand Sciboz, who runs a company specialising in shipwreck research and salvage. "It's always a big trauma," he adds, even if the divers are used to recover missions like this one. Sciboz says it will be especially challenging to recover any missing passengers who were in the lower decks when the yacht sank. "The worst thing in this case will be taking off all the debris just floating everywhere in the yacht."

Update: Body of UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch recovered from Sicily yacht but daughter still missing..by Mark Lowen, Reporting from Porticelloichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/bd34/live/ba0e9db0-608d-11ef-b43e-6916dcba5cbf.jpgThe body of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch has been recovered from the Bayesian yacht off the coast of Sicily, a source close to the family has told the BBC. The source also said they believe the person still missing is Mike’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah. While we wait for the sixth victim to be found, the investigation goes on. The focus now is on whether human error was to blame. From the captain and the crew not taking measures onboard the yacht to mitigate the extreme weather and storm alert that had been issued before that terrible tragedy on Monday morning. The wheels of justice move very slowly here in Italy. But there will be pressure on the investigators to wrap this up. These are high profile victims - so there will be a lot of legal implications. We know the investigators spoke to the captain, who survived, for two hours yesterday. He's 51 and from New Zealand. Part of the focus is on whether there were storage compartments left open, allowing water to flood into the boat. And also on why there was no crew team on alert overnight when the storm happened, particularly given the fact there was a weather alert. Another question: why was the yacht not harboured at port if the storm alert was out? A ship surveyor told me yesterday there should have been a two-man watch team on board overnight. The feeling is that there was a combination of factors that made the conditions ripe for this kind of disaster to happen.

Update: Sixth body found in Sicily yacht wreck, reports say it's Mike Lynch's daughter..
Divers have located a sixth body after the sinking of a luxury yacht off Sicily, believed to be that of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, according to reports in Italian media.
Hannah is the last of those missing following the sinking earlier this week.
The body of her father, tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, and five others have already been brought to shore following the sinking of the luxury yacht Bayesian, which foundered during a freak storm off the Italian fishing village of Porticello, east of Palermo.
Of the 22 passengers and crew on board, 15 people survived the sinking, including a one-year-old child and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares.
Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy Bloomer, Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda Morvillo and the boat's chef Recaldo Thomas were the others lost when the Bayesian sank.
The wreck of the Bayesian is on the seabed at a depth of 50 metres (164ft).
Rescuers described the operation, which has been ongoing since Monday, as "complex", with divers limited to 12-minute underwater shifts.
A decision on whether to raise the sunken yacht from the seabed is "not on the agenda" but will be in the future, a spokesperson from the Italian Coastguard has said.
The ship was "practically intact" on the seabed, according to divers on the search and rescue team.

Update: Manslaughter investigation begins over Sicily yacht wreck but no suspect identified..Report by Barbara Tasch, with Stefano Fasano reporting from Sicilyichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/759d/live/e5285df0-60c0-11ef-8c32-f3c2bc7494c6.jpgItalian authorities are holding a news conference after divers found the final missing person from the sinking of a luxury yacht off Sicily. Prosecutors say they are in the early stages of investigating a so-called "crime hypothesis" of culpable shipwreck and manslaughter, although they are not investigating anyone specifically at the moment They also say the yacht, called the Bayesian, likely sunk because of a downburst. This is a localised, powerful wind that descends from a thunderstorm and spreads out unpredictably Officials also confirm the body recovered on Friday was that of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, the daughter of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch Her father's body was recovered from the wreck on Thursday, along with four others One body - that of Recaldo Thomas, the yacht's chef - was recovered from the sea on Monday Of the 22 passengers and crew on board, 15 people survived the sinking, including a one-year-old child and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares

Good news. "A campaign by The Independent to allow a hero Afghan pilot who served alongside British forces in Afghanistan to rebuild his life with his family in the UK has finally been won. The air force lieutenant, who fled the Taliban and came to Britain on a small boat because it was “impossible” to get here via a legal route, was refused asylum under the government’s Afghan resettlement scheme – sparking fury from top politicians and military figures who called it “shameful” that the country should turn its back on the war hero." Always worth remembering that each one is a human being with their own hopes and dreams. "The last time he had seen his baby daughter Maryam she hadn’t been able to speak. Though he’d tried to call her and his wife Zahra in Afghanistan as regularly as the weak internet would allow, he was nervous his three-year-old wouldn’t recognise him at the airport gate. But when she finally ran excitedly into his arms, his fears were allayed. Describing the moment, he said: “I couldn’t stop grinning and smiling. I was thinking, maybe I am in a dream.” " He was threatened with being deported to Rwanda. He has as daughter whose future is surely much better now. "But I’ve heard that the people are free here, that they can work and they can study whatever they want." www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/afghan-pilot-family-taliban-afghanistan-b2599745.html

My understanding is that they won't find him. My brother served in his regiment a few years later, the rumour mill about what happened was pretty horrific, although I believe has been denied in recent years by those involved.

AfD polling well ahead of tomorrows elections in east Germany, the funny thing is that the German government are sending out tough messages about immigration, crime and terrorism, I wonder if the govt would be saying these things if the AfD were not getting more popular ?

It's all about immigrants.
Keep mentioning them even when there's a quiet five minutes because the agenda must be driven along.

So the AfD win in Thuringia and a close second place in Saxony, far too many people voting for them to be called 'extremist' how can you be 'extreme' when you are getting more votes than mainstream parties ?...of course the truth is that the AfD is the mainstream and these other 'lib/lab/con' parties belong in the dustbin of history.
BBC radio 4 having hysterics this morning,no doubt lefty's everywhere crying into their muesli...democracy lives and the people have spoken.

So are you saying that there is not a problem...a """MAJOR ONE""" , almost to the levels of national emergencies here in the UK, Germany ,France and every other European country bar, Hungary and Poland etc.. due to mass immigration? If so...with respect, you are completely delusional!

Party's like AFD are rising due to radical leftie politicians ignoring people from all over Europe that are worried about mass immigration. Its an invasion, yet they are doing nothing about it. People are now being forced into a corner and feeling the need to vote for a party like AFD. It's sad that it's come to this.

Interesting too that the BSW did very well, they are a party of the left but they have some nationalist ideas, so many people turning their backs on the old parties now.
