2024 will have a lot of elections and with 2 major conflicts going on we have to hope for the best.
EU elections, will parties on the right be able to get more Euro MPs and change the direction of the EU ?
Can Trump win in the US elections ? he has promised to stop the war in Ukraine, lets hope that that war hasnt spread to neighbouring countries before he can end it.
Gaza, this has the possibility to cause lots of problems in the Middle East (and in Europe if there are terror attacks) again if Trump wins will he pull out of bases in Iraq and Syria ? will the Iranians cause problems ? will Israel invade Lebanon again ?
Going to be interesting.

Think it will be a year where the left have to eat humble pie , the revelations just comming out about what there poster boy Blair was going to do with migrants is hilarious, the same plan as bravermans , but 20 yrs earlier , the left shouted evil , inhumane , etc , now it’s but , well, but , ha ha ha Think as we get nearer the election we will get more of these revelations & realise what a bunch of hypocrites the left are Hope every one has a great new year , I’m working New Year’s Eve / day so have a pint for me .

Margaret Beckett and Ken Clarke whinging on Radio 4 today,2024 looks bad, wars everywhere, west on the decline,World economy, right wing blah blah. Not once did they take any responsibility ,we are where we are because of decades of poliiticians like them controlling the Western World, time for a change and they know and fear it.

Were they not democratically elected? What is your suggestion for an alternative to that system of governance?

Problems in Ecquador...that will make thousands more head to the US border.
AfD in Germany polling 23% in the states where elections will take place this year.
Vlaam Blok going to get a huge vote in June, they want independence from Belgium (like Slovakia....and Slovenia and Croatia)

The current German government (a coalition) is headed by the SPD, who actually got 26% of the national vote in the last German general election ! They are in government because of the coalition between them and the smaller parties like the Greens. The AfD vote is climbing all the time. It's not going to be long before they get the largest vote share in a general election, but will be unable to form a government because all the other parties will group together. When this happens it will trigger a Constitutional crisis in Germany. How can you have a situation where the party with the largest vote share are denied a place in government?

You cannot, not in a democracy. That does not make it any less frightening.

The SPD would like to ban the AfD for being 'extremist'...if 23% of the electorate were supporting an extremist party then there would be a problem and that problem would have been caused by the SPD !....of course the AfD are not extremist or they would have already been banned as there are very strict rules in Germany.

Surely though this is what happened in Poland ? the PiS won a massive majority over other individual parties, however the other parties all joined forces and formed a 'government'. I think that there will be real problems in Poland, could even end up in a civil war or a military putsch.

Your definition of extremism leaves a lot to be desired and little to imagination

I listened to 'the kids are alt right' on Radio 4 today, very interesting, seems like the lefty's telling us that the right were all old Alf Garnett types was a load of b0ll0x what a surprise.
Hardly a country in Europe without a party on the right in first or second place...how has this happened ? the answer is decades of centrist politics creating more problems for ordinary people than they solve.

Irans actions through their minions,Russia,China,North Korea...are we sleep walking into WW3 ? Iran this week attacked a target inside Pakistan! Apparently, they were targeting a terrorist group that allegedly operates in Iran. Didn't Oldie tell us that there isn't any terrorism in Iran? Iran has to be contained. They control Hamas, Hezbollah and the idiots in Yeman. They've attacked a target inside Pakistan and also attacked targets in Syria and Iraq in the last week. They are also involved in South America (Venezuela). I can see the proverbial excretia hitting the fan soon as this cannot be allowed to continue.

To be honest I had never heard of the group that the Iranians said they targeted. I looked them up and it appears they only formed in 2012. I never got as far south as Baluchistan, but I do know the Tehranis deemed it a peasant outpost 😲 The Iranians claim this group has been commuting violent attacks on the Iranian side of that border. If so, is this not self defence? In the same way as us bombing the Houthis in Yemen has claimed to be?
