Cowley Brothers out of all the realistic options. Graham Potter from the wishful thinking list We have to give him enough time to show if he is the right appointment I've always thought of the Cowley Brothers as a bit non league style when I've watched them on the touchline. They certainly suited Lincoln but I don't see them in the new Rovers mould required to develop young players. Matt Taylor has had a superb record developing players from his years at Exeter. He will need time to develop that side of the club and getting results for the first team should get him that time. Cowleys’ record is pretty good at all the clubs they’ve been at . Huddersfield the least successful but they got a hospital pass there and a work colleague who is a terriers fan said they did a reasonable job and was sorry when they left. My impression is that they did build for future at Lincoln and that they are a successful L1 club punching above their weight is due in large part to the foundations they put down. You’d have to consult imps fans to find out if that is valid or not. Surprised Lincoln didnt ask them to replace Kennedy. Hope you are right about Taylor as that is the sort of manager we need. Was hoping Tisdale would have been like that but think Wael lost his nerve with him. Still disappointed he did not back Coughlan

Stabbed in the back by the DOF as soon as he walked through the door. Hopefully those sort of politics have gone now that the DOF is at Aldershot.

Appalling lack of leadership at the top of the club to allow that to happen. Widdrington was obviously angling for the top job himself. Although he has done a good job at Aldershot I am glad he was not in the reckoning for a return here

Surely Carlisle 1 Carlisle 0? Can't find it in the google machine. That was the home fixture 24th January 2004 1-0 and it was a pen. Yes, it was a penalty on 52 mins, watched by 8,485 at the mem, we were in 12th place and they were bottom...ex Gas goalie Matt Glennon was in opposition that day.

Have all of Barton's crew left along with Mangan? I can't find any info on that

My impression was that it started at the top, with Hani and Wael wanting different things - mainly Hani didn’t want to spend any money without a likely return And Hani’s main man Hamer, who wasn’t as much of a buffoon as he made himself sound at times, did seem to want to spend either Hani’s or Wael’s money to give himself a role. In this he made common cause with the Supporters Club leadership, and Mr 100% Tommy Widdrington And the President’s Club wanted to have their say too Poor old ‘Tis, who didn’t need the work or money and is another in a long list who like things done their own way, turned up in the middle of all this Lord knows what the players were thinking In the end Wael stumped up all the money, brought in the Merseyside Mafia to run everything football and their mate Colonel Buffon-Tufton to help sort the governance and cohesion I always remember that Alan Sugar, who is no slouch in hard-nosed business, found football impossible. We’ll maybe impossible except as a quick way to lose a lot of money Very best of luck to the Al-Saeeds

i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article8996410.ece/ALTERNATES/s1176b/0_JS319716534.jpgMatt Taylor reveals stance on potentially working with former assistant again at Bristol Rovers..By Daniel Hargraves Matt Taylor worked with former Bristol Rovers player Wayne Carlisle at Exeter City and Rotherham United Matt Taylor has admitted that he hopes he will work with his former assistant Wayne Carlisle again in the future as the Bristol Rovers manager looks to finalise his backroom staff over the coming weeks. The pair worked together at Exeter City and then Rotherham United before Taylor left the Millers last month. As a result, Carlisle took caretaker charge of the Championship club for four matches before the confirmation of Leam Richardson as their new Head Coach. It did initially appear as though Taylor's former assistant would be staying on at the Yorkshire outfit but Rotherham confirmed on Tuesday that the 44-year-old had departed the club by mutual consent. Since the new Gas manager took the vacancy at the Mem there have been continuous links and speculation regarding whether or not he will look to bring Carlisle to Rovers, a club for whom he made over 70 appearances as a player between 2002 and 2004. Taylor is also yet to bring any of his own staff to the football club and has been working with personnel that had already been in place in first-team coach Kevin Bond, goalkeeping coach Anssi Jaakkola and Head of Sports Science Tom Short. Academy Manager Byron Anthony and Lead Physical Development Phase coach Steve Tully have also been assisting amongst the first-team after the departures of Glenn Whelan and Danny Ventre alongside former caretaker manager Andy Mangan prior to Taylor's arrival. Asked about whether Carlisle is a name he would be thinking about bringing to Rovers ahead of Saturday's league match at Blackpool, Taylor said: "Yeah. I think his situation at his previous club has obviously unfolded this week. I would imagine what he's gone through and almost steadying the ship there for a period of time he needs some time off. But we're close enough to speak on a regular basis. "He's a name I've worked with in the past and one I really hope I'll work with in the future again. But I'll also be very respectful of his current situation and his needs to probably digest and settle down and spend this Christmas period with his family." On working with coaches already at the club when he arrived, the Gas manager added: "The academy guys have been brilliant, they really have. Byron Anthony and Steve Tully and Kevin Bond has been incredibly special in the first couple of weeks. "What he's done and how he's settled the place down, he's been a face that the players have known previously and plus he's experienced to boot and sees the game a certain way so I'm learning from him as much as anyone else.

LDWWLW, three wins, one draw, two losses. Early days, of course, but those we're enjoying. If Taylor needs more coaching personnel, let them be club men who can aspire to suceed him when he leaves for European Cup winners or suchlike.

Wayne Carlisle was at yesterday's Portsmouth match incoming in January after a shirt break from Rotherham United.
Is Jaakkola the goalkeeper coach or has he also departed?

I am fairly confident it was paraphrased in a very rare interview, either just before JB got the Tim tak or just after Happy to be corrected if wrong

I think that game will be a good barometer on how MT reacts to a fairly recent loss and also on who we bring to Rovers prior to that

Happy New Year, KP. How you quoted me twice, once without the apostrophe in 'we're' and once with, is a mystery. You're right about Al Saeed's interview noting employing club men rather than cult men (my phrase). It was before a match, after JB's sacking, discussing the end of Fruit Market plans, intentions regarding Memorial Ground redevelopment, and a person specification for the manager recruitment. I liked it, personally. The Radio Bristol interviewer welcomed Al Saeed's availability, noting that the interview was granted on the first request for one. As to Rovers vs Blackpool, outside of o2o2bo2ba's January thread, I hadn't given it much thought, yet, especially as I'm going to Norwich in six days, but I see that Blackpool's actually our next home fixture, after three away. 1. Mon 01 Jan 3pm Wycombe vs RoversFA Cup R3: Sat 06 Jan 3pm Norwich vs Rovers2. Sat 13 Jan 3pm Barnsley vs Rovers3. Sat 20 Jan 3pm Rovers vs Blackpool 4. Tue 23 Jan 7.45pm Rovers vs Exeter 5. Sat 27 Jan 3pm Rovers vs Oxford After three away games, I expect us to beat Blackpool. If we lose all three away, I think returning home will bring a positive response. If we do well away, then we're probably good enough to win a home game against a similarly ranked third division side. I'm no expert, at all, but I believe it.

Tisdale was the wrong man and at the wrong time. Stabbed in the back by the DOF as soon as he walked through the door. Hopefully those sort of politics have gone now that the DOF is at Aldershot. We’ll maybe impossible except as a quick way to lose a lot of money Very best of luck to the Al-Saeeds Steve Hamer is the only club employee who read and replied to my e-mails within the same day and I actually got to like the guy. Seemed to become a figure of hatred after his sacking. I still think it very poor behaviour in the club release. No thanks for your efforts and good luck. It showed Wael in a very poor light in my opinion
