Just read the the Official Club press release announcing Matt Taylor, seems like the old proof reader is still in situ.

My favourite Wayne goal was his, 'bend it like Carlisle' free kick, against Scunny. (3:34) #UpTheROVERS Graydon's team, Phil bater as Caretaker? What a disjointed and clunky team that was. Kevin Street, Rob Quinn, Bradley Allen, Paul Tait ugh... Bristol Rovers: Howie, Boxall, Barrett, Austin, Rose, Carlisle, Quinn, Astafjevs, Street, Tait, Gilroy. Subs: Clarke, McKeever, Hogg, Allen, Parker.

Wonder how it will work if the Crewe match goes ahead? No-one left from the previous regime and no time to assess squad so guess Topper will be consulted.

www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2023/december/Matt-Taylor-Announced/Bristol Rovers are delighted to announce Matt Taylor as the new First Team Manager on a three and a half-year contract. Taylor has enjoyed a healthy playing career having spells at Exeter, Charlton and Cheltenham before switching to the touchline. Matt had a successful time when managing Exeter achieving promotion from League Two and most recently has managed Rotherham in the Championship. Matt will take training on Friday and will manage the team on Saturday as we face Crewe in the Second Round of the FA Cup. As part of this change, Andy Mangan will be leaving his role at the club. Everyone associated with the club would like to wish Andy all the success in the future. Rovers Chairman Hussain Al-Saeed said: "We are delighted today to announce the appointment of Matt Taylor as our First Team Manager. We would like to thank our fans for being patient with us throughout this thorough process whilst we identified the correct person to lead us in this new era for Bristol Rovers. Matt shared our visions of growing the club and has bought into our project. I am sure you will all join me in welcoming Matt to the club and wishing him every success." "I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Mangan for all of his efforts during his time as Interim Manager. We are confident that he will go on to have a successful career as a football manager and he will always be welcome here."

One wonders what Eddy Jennings has to say on this. Eddy? Eddy? Eddy?

I should imagine whatever Jennings says will relate to pounds sterling severance. I wish him the least of success in this endeavour.

Underwhelmed, but now needs to be given time and support to prove if this is a good appointment. Hope his philosophy is in building sustainably including developing our own young players rather than other clubs

An excellent choice, especially considering the names of other candidates rumoured for the position.
If he accomplishes nothing else but uniting Gasheads, that would be a remarkable achievement.

I hope all to be as underwhelmed as we were at first by DC and GC.

Wayne is/was married to one of the daughters of a Rovers director I believe?

Not sure you`ve thought this through, in it`s entirety. What if he unites us all in wanting him gone, because he loses his first fifteen games?

The thought did fleetingly dance through my head but I made a conscious effort to keep my mindset on the sunny side.

It was only a penalty! I remember because my son was mascot on the day, on his 10th birthday... (24th Jan 2004). Christ - he'll be 30 next year! The headline was Carlisle 0 Carlisle 2 (23rd Aug 2003) Epping, yours must have been a different fixture. A bit premature with the welcome back message, Wayne is still at Rotherham and will be managing their team at Birmingham on Saturday. He's very fondly remembered, and on here that seems to be a general view - and not just for the opportunity for catchy headlines when playing against a team at the top of the M6. You've been very restrained and patient through all this (especially so in the face of anyone making up bollox and posting it as well informed special access fact). If there's the expected follow through (as many assume) it'll be a bit like getting the old band back together.

I don't think the club was hijacked at all, it was outsourced. The club offered itself up for it. 'Hijack' implies that it didn't have any agency in the matter, whereas it effectively gave them the keys, metaphorically reserved half the car park for them, and freed up the bank account. No-one was standing over them with a musket and wearing a cloak and tricorn hat. It was thought to be 'a good thing' despite multiple and recurring indicators to the opposite. That's the worry. The good news is that Hussain AlSaeed identified and called it out. A weakness was identified and exploited. That weakness is still present with 45% of the holding company. And today his spokesman has said he thinks Hussain Al-Saeed is incompetent. Which is a bit rich coming from someone who championed incompetence for seven years. Not sure what that refers to Swiss Have the 2 largest shareholders had a rift?

I've just seen his 1st interview
It's not hard to be a massive step up on his predecessor, but he's different gravy completely. Very encouraging

Graham Potter from the wishful thinking list We have to give him enough time to show if he is the right appointment

Cowley Brothers out of all the realistic options. Graham Potter from the wishful thinking list We have to give him enough time to show if he is the right appointment I've always thought of the Cowley Brothers as a bit non league style when I've watched them on the touchline. They certainly suited Lincoln but I don't see them in the new Rovers mould required to develop young players. Matt Taylor has had a superb record developing players from his years at Exeter. He will need time to develop that side of the club and getting results for the first team should get him that time.
