By contrast, it must be hard for those that do not even understand the history of their own country. How sad is that! I think most people on here understand the history of their own country. They just tend not to agree with your interpretation of it. I find it fascinating that some, you included Alf, are claiming that I interpret history, rather that just state it. I do not believe I have ever quoted something from history that didn't actually happen. Denial is the other end of that spectrum.

Disgusting pro Palestinian/Hamas b'stards. This is an odd story,Amsterdam has always had a reputation as a jewish city or at least a city with a large jewish population, also Ajax have been seen as a 'jewish club' like totts over here. Where did these anti Israel thugs come from ? who organised them ? was it all football fans involved in the trouble ?...something about this seems strange to me.

Most likely,so it must have been planned...Interpol should find these people and they should be charged with conspiracy to cause riots etc.

Apparently no trouble amongst the fans at the game but people were attacked around the city afterwards. So not football hooliganism. As Trymer said, very odd. Will be interesting to see the nationality of those arrested.

Will be interesting to see the nationality of those arrested. It's not unusual for there to be no trouble in stadiums these days though, regardless of what takes place outside. I'm not excusing anyone or taking sides but there's footage available showing Maccabi Tel Aviv fans singing provocative songs regarding dead Arab children. BBC are also reporting this: 'Videos posted to social media appear to show Maccabi Tel Aviv fans chanting racist slogans about Arabs and Palestine, as well as climbing on a building to tear down a Palestinian flag on display. Social media users said the videos were from before the attacks on Israelis. Footage from the stadium also appeared to show Maccabi fans jeering and whistling during a minute's silence for those killed in floods in Valencia. The BBC is working to verify the videos. Some Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have previously been involved in racist incidents in Israel, including cursing at the team’s Palestinian and Arab players and reportedly applying pressure on the team to oust them. Fans of the team have also previously attacked protesters demonstrating against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.'

Further down in the article: Hundreds of Maccabi supporters gathered at the National Monunment in Dam Square, with police making several arrests in the area for breach of peace. Video shared on social media shows Israeli supporters pulling down a Palestinian flag in central Amsterdam as tensions rose before and after the match. The hooded figures are heard making chanting 'f*** you Palestine', and anti-Arab slogans can also be heard in the footage.' It's obviously out of order what's occured there, but going to a European away and staging a political demonstration is unlikely to end well.

First off there are no verifications regarding your claims. Secondly, don't we see similar protests every week in our cities in support of Palestinians?

Daily Mail claims, not mine Also from BBC Maccabi supporters attacked taxi and burned Palestine flag, police say Peter Holla tells reporters in Amsterdam Maccabi supporters attacked a taxi and set a Palestinian flag on fire on Wednesday. He says trouble continued into the early hours of Thursday.

Hanging a Palestinian flag up in front of Israeli football fans in my book is provocation and it's no surprise it was pulled down. How long would an Israeli flag last if displayed in front of pro Palestine protests around the UK most weeks?

A large, supposedly notorious, group of football fans travel to another country and don't like the flags that are on display, outside people's homes? They also (according to the Daily Mail) stage a political demonstration in the square in which they chant anti Arab slogans. There is also footage of hundreds of these supporters chanting about dead Arab children. Most if this is from the Mail article you posted

A previous post was made requesting a link which I assumed was about the events in Amsterdam as that is what was being discussed. (If I misinterpreted that then I apologise). I in response posted an article from the mail. I didn't make any comments at that time. You then replied highlighting the behaviour of Israeli fans, one of which was about pulling down a Palestinian flag. I then replied to you saying displaying such flag in front of Israelis in my opinion was provocation and no surprise it was pulled down. Hope that explains it easier.

I'm just providing some balance to any narrative suggesting that travelling supporters are entitled to tear down flags from people's homes. That in addition to reports of racist/grotesque chanting and staging political demonstrations in a foreign city. Like I said, it's all out of order from either side

Maccabi Tel-Aviv's next match in the Europa League is v Besiktas on 28 November. Thankfully not in Turkey now, a neutral venue will be decided. Feels like an awkward and dangerous scenario awaits

Read a few reports about the Amsterdam violence after the match, youths on scooters hunting and beating Israelis, the mayor of Amsterdam refused to say if the offenders were from Amsterdams large Moroccan community.....
