True But on the other side of that same coin if Israeli settlers had not forced themselves onto Palestinian lands after 1967, if Palestinians had not been treated as 2nd class citizens, (I call it Apartheid), if Palestinians had not been slaughtered in refugee camps in Lebanon in 1982 by Christian Militias supported by the IDF under the command of Ariel Sharon then perhaps, just perhaps, the lunatic extremists within HAMAS would not have had the Oxygen they needed to grow into the cancer that they are. Actions, sometimes inaction, have consequences. I shudder at the consequences of the bombings carried out in Iraq and Syria yesterday. I am not here to defend previous Israeli atrocities. I abhor what they are still doing in the West Bank. But post 2020 and the Abraham accord there was a period where genuine progress had been made between Israel and it's Arab neighbours. This is when negotiation 'could' have resulted in peace and a better life for Palestinians. Even a two state solution was on the table. This is now all in tatters. The finger points at Iran and it's backing of Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthi rebels and bombing of the US base. What do they gain from all this? Unless that regime is driven by fanatical religious lunatics. "Death to the infidels". Obviously the west HAS to react. To appear weak now will embolden Iran. Not much to argue with there, apart from the duplicity of the Israelis in allowing continuing settler encroachment on Palestinian homes and land, excaserbated by the election of a hard right coalition government, one party to which advocated all non Jews should be expelled from Israel. How do you negotiate with that? Extremism begats extremism. On Iran. Yes the government there is populated by theocratic fascists. That they have more than 45% support of the general population is unlikely, they rule by force and murder. I know a considerable number of Iranians in my age group and almost universally they blame us the UK and the Americans for the predicament they find themselves in. Taking a start point of 1952 you can draw a straight line to 1979 and then on to today. There was a huge amount of resistance to the Islamic Theocracy at the outset, circa 50,000 were killed by that Theocracy between 1980 and 1982. It was the Iraq/Iran war which finally killed off that resistance as his invasion in the south west of Iran led to a horrific WW1 style conflict. Unlike Kuwait a decade later the west stood by and watched. Actually that's not quite true, Reagan played both sides, selling arms to both, in Iran's case for cash which he then funneled to the Contrary terrorist groups in South America. So I never have heard, face to face, "Death to the Infidels" I have heard, quite extensively "You can stick your moral indignation up your ass" Can't say, as an Englishman, that I disagree. |

Adding layer upon layer of violence is a classic zero sum game. In this instance unless the root causes are addressed then this continues and thousands more will lose their lives. The root causes had a chance of being addressed (see my recent comment). Iran just blew that all up. Literally. Further Iranian violence WILL beget more violence. See my reply |

A lot of people expect WW3 within a decade according to Radio 4 today,if Russia or China gave Iran 2 suitcase sized nuclear weapons to detonate in Israel that might kick it off. The yanks & us will sort Russia , china & the terrorists out ( I’d say the eu but they can’t seem to agree on anything , let alone a war , though no suprise with the surrender monkeys just across the Chanel ) I was listening to a bloke who was on gb news , according to him trump wanted us to become a state of the USA when we left the eu , not out the question in years to come ( oh how I’d love to see the expression on oldies chops if that was announced ) , though I don’t think I could give our sovereignty away , took us years to prise it back from the imprisonment of the eu Actually trump being the president of the uk would be hilarious , can you imagine the lefties , they were all going to leave the uk when we brexited , maybe they’d do it finally with trump in charge , what a good idea 👍🤪 |

Interesting looking at polls in USA and elsewhere, support for Israel dropping drastically, in America its under 50% now,thats not good news for Israel in the future and a lot of lefties wont support Biden because of his pro Israel stance.

This week I heard part of a radio programme about invasive species and how to combat them.
The talk turned to grey squirrels and the woman speaking said that they can be modified genetically so that after mating only male offspring are produced,the grey squirrel population would die out in a short time and its more palatable to the public than trapping,shooting etc,more efficient too.
Got me thinking that in a war where the participants are of different races this could be used as weapon in the future,imagine somewhere like Gaza with a limited water supply it would be easy to dose the population and they wouldnt even know it had happened,from a practical point it would stop all the problems there,no one would be hurt/killed,but I suppose that it would be classed as wrong ethically.....yet bombing,killing and mutilation of children is acceptable....

I would go for genetically altering the sperm of males in the UK whose understanding of the real world around them is suboptimal. Altered to a degree they could not procreate. Save the rest of us time and money. |
