Tom Lockyer: Luton Town captain to return home on Thursday after collapse..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5068/production/_129948502_shutterstock_editorial_13934057eb.jpgLuton's players showed their support for captain Tom Lockyer after the Championship play-off final victory over Coventry CityLuton Town say captain Tom Lockyer will return home on Thursday, having been in hospital since his collapse during the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday. The 28-year-old defender collapsed on the pitch after eight minutes of the game against Coventry City. But he is being allowed to leave the Cavendish Clinic in London having undergone a series of tests. A Luton statement said Lockyer will rest before joining up for pre-season. Despite Lockyer's absence, the Hatters went on to beat the Sky Blues in a penalty shootout and secure a place in the Premier League for next season. The statement said: "The Wales international has been a frustrated patient, but has completed all the necessary medical tests and observations to be allowed home for a period of rest before the start of pre-season training, which he will be fit to take part in. "We would like to thank everyone for their messages of love and support for 'Locks', who has had a season to remember and proudly led the team out on Saturday, with his team-mates completing the job for him."

That news is most welcome. I did not realise he required heart surgery. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Her indoors has had this problem for some while, she had an" ablation" carried out to clean the inner lining of her heart, this cleans the area where the AF has scarred the inner workings of the organ, this helps to keep the rhythm of the heart steady as you would expect it to be in normal circumstances, would be surprised to see him up and running for the start of the season,Her Indoors was told it could take 12 weeks and possibly longer for the heart to fully stabilize after the procedure,

The procedure actually causes mild scarring in order to disrupt the rogue electrical signals that cause Atrial Fibrillation. I have been living with AF for six years and taking beta blockers to help manage it. I was told to stop drinking real ale and cider, which is clearly a ridiculous demand. ,š¤š

Tom Lockyer: Luton captain signs new deal and trains after operation for heart issue..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DF98/production/_130304275_gettyimages-1258225519.jpgLuton Town captain Tom Lockyer has signed a new contract of an undisclosed length before the club's debut Premier League season. The 28-year-old is beginning pre-season training on Thursday after an operation for a heart issue. The defender, who skippered the team to promotion to the top flight last season, collapsed during the play-off final but has made a full recovery. "I'd really like to build something special here at Luton," Lockyer said. "I've got an incredible relationship with the fans, the manager, all the boys. I love the club and I love being here. "It's incredible what we achieved last season. To have the chance to play with Luton in the Premier League will be something that's really special to me." Lockyer signed for Luton in 2020 and made his 100th appearance for the club in May. He was voted Luton's 2022-23 player of the year, a campaign in which he made 45 appearances and scored five goals. The skipper collapsed eight minutes into the Championship play-off final against Coventry and spent five days in hospital. His operation was to correct an atrial fibrillation, a condition which causes an irregular heart-rate.

Tom Lockyer: Wales recall Luton captain after heart surgery..Good to hear when an ex-BRFC player does well...
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B18D/production/_130935454_gettyimages-1623931407.jpg Tom Lockyer is an ex-Charlton Athletic and Bristol Rovers defenderWales boss Robert Page has recalled Tom Lockyer for their September games against South Korea and Latvia following the Luton Town captain's recovery from heart surgery. Lockyer was set to return to Wales duty before his collapse in the Championship final play-off at Wembley in May. Lockyer suffered an atrial fibrillation, a condition the NHS describes as causing "an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate". Centre-back Lockyer has not played for Wales since September 2021, though he was part of their squad at last year's the 2022 World Cup as well as Euro 2020. He was named in the Championship team of the year after helping Luton reach the Premier League in 2022-23. Before promotion Lockyer had spent his entire career below the top flight. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/8/30/8c9c0a96-bfff-4fbb-ac07-27022de1b535.jpgPage said: "It's a great story. We all watched the events unfold in the play off final. We were all concerned, but there has been nothing but positivity since that day. "He has had some great news, he is back to normal and is now playing in the Premier League, which is unbelievable for him as well. "It is always going to be a challenge when you get promoted to the Premier League, Luton have done really well to be where they are at with the resources they have available to them. "But for him personally he should be very proud of how he has recovered after it. A dream for him was to play in the Premier League and he has achieved that."

I remember when he broke into our team, looking about 12, and not playing centre back then, was it midfield? When he left us, we fell apart and went down to league 2. If you want to build to the championship you need to try harder to hold these players.
On the other hand, he took the move to the Championship to reach for the very personal best from his career. And itās worked out brilliant for him, Captain of a premiership side.
Who wouldnāt want to see him back at Rovers one day in some capacity? Heās one of our own.

Another spirited performance by Luton Town against Manchester City today.
At one point the commentator said ā Lockyer dictating play from the centre of defenceā.
Tom made over 250 appearances for Rovers and we can be proud of that but, more importantly, we should be asking ourselves why Luton Town could offer him the opportunity to play in the Championship and Premier League but Rovers couldnāt.

Simple really they were a Championship side when they signed him, unfortunately, we now look as far off as ever of becoming one.

Adding to the above posts: Luton's Premier League match at Bournemouth has been stopped after their captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/1857B/production/_132070799_bournemouth.jpgBoth sets of players were taken off midway through the second half as Lockyer received medical treatment. After several minutes, he was taken off on a stretcher, applauded by all four sides of the ground. Lockyer, 29, collapsed during the play-off final win against Coventry in May before being taken to hospital. He subsequently had heart surgery and was given the all-clear to return to playing in June. Saturday's game was suspended in the 65th minute with the score at 1-1.

BREAKING - Play abandoned at Bournemouth, it ended Bournemouth 1-1 Lutonichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/1104B/production/_132070796_luton2.jpgUnderstandably, referee Simon Hooper has taken the decision to abandon the game at the Vitality Stadium following a collapse by Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer near the centre circle. The clock was stopped in the 65th minute and players were sent down the tunnel. Lockyer was given medical attention and treatment on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher to a round of applause from fans. He was said to be "alert and responsive in the tunnel". Players from both teams have come out to thank supporters at Vitality Stadium, who will have been equally shaken by the events. The Luton Town players are being applauded by the home fans, who are all on their feet. It's a nice touch. Managers Andoni Iraola and Rob Edwards also shake hands and pass on their support for each other. Luton Town boss Rob Edwards is in tears as he walks around the pitch. He says "thank you" to the fans, taps his chest and encourages them to keep singing for Tom Lockyer before heading down the tunnel. There are still fans inside Vitality Stadium singing Tom Lockyer's name.

Just got back from the match. Good to read the latest statement about him being awake and alert. Itās been confirmed as a heart attack which is awful for him and the second in 6 months. Good luck to a very good and whole hearted footballer and a fine young man.
FWIW, the response from all the crowd and the staffs of both teams and the emergency services was a credit to them all. First match Iāve ever been to when itās been abandoned because of a medical emergency on the pitch and perhaps esp to Philip Billing who alerted the referee and the benches immediately Tom fell down. He quickly realised the seriousness of the situation. The crowd realised the seriousness very quickly and Iāve never been in a crowd where there was absolute hush, you could have heard a pin drop. When the match was abandoned both teams came onto the pitch and did a lap clapping the crowd. Rob Edwards also did a lap and was clearly very upset and he got a wonderful response.
Good luck Tom.
UTG!

In my opinion I think Tom should now retire after collapsing twice now in the space of 7 months. His health is more important than anything else.

Tom Lockyer: Luton captain 'stable' after suffering cardiac arrest..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/175DB/production/_132070759_luton.jpg The game was suspended in the 65th minute with the score at 1-1Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer is "stable" after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during the abandoned Premier League match at Bournemouth, his club confirmed. Both sets of players were taken off midway through the second half as Lockyer received medical treatment. The 29-year-old was responsive as he was carried off on a stretcher to applause and taken to hospital. Luton said Lockyer was "stable and currently undergoing further tests". "Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain [Tom Lockyer] suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher," Luton said. "He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides. "Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside." Following confirmation the game was abandoned, both the Luton and Bournemouth players came back out on to the pitch to applaud the supporters, with Hatters manager Rob Edwards visibly emotional. Lockyer collapsed during the play-off final win against Coventry in May before being taken to hospital. He subsequently had heart surgery and was given the all-clear to return to playing in June. The Premier League said in a statement: "The match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident. "Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer and all players involved in today's match." Luton called for players, staff and supporters "to come together" in support of Lockyer and his family. "We are sorry to all supporters present that players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue with the game after seeing their much-loved team-mate and friend taken off like that and staff could not carry on with managing the game in such circumstances," Luton said. "We thank everyone for the wonderful applause and singing of Locks' [Lockyer's] name inside the stadium at such a difficult time." Bournemouth responded to Luton's update on Lockyer's condition, saying: "We're relieved to hear Tom is responsive." The club added: "Our thoughts will continue to be with Tom and his family at this time. We'd like to thank all the medical staff for their quick action as well as everyone inside the stadium for their support and unity during a difficult moment."
