Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea after one season..by Bobbie Jackson, BBC Sport Journalist.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/article32862064.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_GettyImages-2153213756.jpgChelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has left the club by mutual consent after just one season at Stamford Bridge. Pochettino, 52, took charge of Chelsea on 1 July, signing a two-year contract with the option of a further year. The Argentine was under pressure after an underwhelming first half of the season but a run of five successive wins to end the season ensured they finished sixth in the Premier League. Chelsea were also runners-up in the Carabao Cup and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup. "Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity," Pochettino said. "The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come." Pochettino was Chelsea's sixth permanent manager in five years, following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, which led to Frank Lampard taking charge on a temporary basis at the end of the 2022-23 season. "On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season," sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said. "He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career." Coaches Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino have also left. The Poch Stats at Chelsea: P51, W26, D11, L14 = Win % of 50.98

Was thinking the exact same thought, MU need to get rid quickly and appoint IMO a very good manager that will sort the club out...

Adding some meat to the post above: Wayne Rooney in line for management return after Championship offer from Plymouth..by Kieran King.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/article31784929.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_RooneyJPG.jpgWayne Rooney could be set for a return to management after being approached for an interview with Championship side Plymouth. Rooney, 38, has been working as a pundit for Sky Sports and ITV over the past couple of months since leaving Birmingham City back in January. He spent 83 days in charge of the West Midlands club after replacing John Eustace last October, winning just two of his 15 matches at the helm. Before that, Rooney had managed Derby and DC United having retired from professional football in January 2021. But now, according to The Telegraph, Rooney could be in line for his next managerial role and is a firm candidate to take charge of Plymouth Argyle, who stayed up in the Championship on the final day of the season. Argyle retained their second-tier status at the expense of Rooney's former club Birmingham after they beat Hull 1-0 at Home Park. Plymouth are still searching for a new manager, however, after the sacking of Ian Foster and director of football Ian Dewsnip has helped drive the pursuit of Rooney.

"During the course of the next few days, Barcelona will be making an announcement regarding the new first team structure." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/5/24/6260878b-7ec8-4a5a-8c34-5c926d3ef18e.jpgFormer Catalan midfield maestro Xavi took charge of Barcelona in November 2021, winning the La Liga title and Spanish Cup in 2022-23. Wayne Rooney appointed as Plymouth Argyle head coach..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/24/20/85314279-0-image-a-98_1716580773892.jpgChampionship side Plymouth Argyle have appointed former England captain Wayne Rooney as their new head coach. The 38-year-old succeeds Ian Foster, who was sacked on 1st April after a poor run of results. It is Rooney's first role since he was sacked by Birmingham City on 2nd January after a disappointing reign of less than three months in which he lost nine of 15 games. Blues, who were in the Championship play-off places when Rooney took over, were relegated to League One earlier this month. The Pilgrims job is a fourth head coach role for Rooney - who was England's top scorer with 53 goals until his mark was beaten by Harry Kane in March 2023. He was Derby County boss during a period of financial difficulties. Rooney guided the Rams to Championship survival in May 2021 in his first season in charge, but left a year later following the club's relegation after Derby had been docked a total of 21 points for their financial problems. He spent 15 months as boss of DC United in the United States, but left last October to take on the Birmingham job, having failed to guide the Washington-based side to the Major League Soccer (MLS) play-offs. First-team coaches Kevin Nancekivell and Simon Ireland, and goalkeeping coach Darryl Flahavan will form part of Rooney’s backroom staff, with further additions to be made in due course.

Hull appoint ex-Hamburg boss Tim Walter as head coach..i2-prod.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article9301302.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1580737447.jpgHull City have appointed former Hamburg boss Tim Walter as their new head coach on a three-year deal. Walter will officially take charge on 1 July subject to obtaining a visa. The 48-year-old German replaces Liam Rosenior after leaving Hamburg earlier this year, having previously taken charge of Stuttgart and Holstein Kiel. Hull finished seventh in the Championship this season and Rosenior was sacked after not reaching the play-offs, despite being nominated for the Championship's manager of the year award. Hull owner and chairman Acun Ilicali, who said Rosenior's departure was down to a "difference of opinion" over the team's style of football, described Walter as the "outstanding candidate" and praised his footballing philosophy. "Tim was always our first choice. We had many strong applicants and wanted to be thorough in our recruitment process, but it quickly became clear that Tim was the outstanding candidate," Ilicali told the club website., external “Our discussions were detailed and productive in planning for this season and I am encouraged about how we can work together to the benefit of our club. "I believe in Tim’s philosophy and in doing so, I am hopeful that over the forthcoming season he can continue our positive progress and upward trajectory." The rest of Walter's backroom staff is still to be confirmed. Walter was in charge of Hamburg from July 2021 until February 2024 and departed with a win percentage of 49%. He was sacked after the club fell away from the promotion race in Bundesliga 2.

Burton Albion confirm manager Martin Paterson's departure.i2-prod.derbytelegraph.co.uk/incoming/article9317413.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_JS322950378.jpgBurton Albion have confirmed the departure of manager Martin Paterson. The League One club have also "agreed to mutually part company" with first team coaches Gary Mills, 62, and John Dreyer, 60. BBC Radio Derby first reported last week that 37-year-old former Swansea City, Barnsley and Inter Miami assistant manager Paterson had left the club. In his first job in charge of a senior side, Paterson took the helm from then caretaker boss Mills in January following Dino Maamria's departure in mid-December. Burton were 17th in the table when Paterson took over, following which the Brewers won just five times in 20 games - enough to narrowly avoid relegation. They ended up finishing 20th - one place and two points above the drop zone. When it was reported in March that Paterson had only been given a deal until the end of the season, Brewers owner and chairman Ben Robinson insisted there were more permanent plans for him. However, the club have now issued an official statement, external to say that Paterson has left "following the expiry of his short-term contract". Robinson said: "Martin took up the managerial position under very difficult circumstances in January. He worked extremely hard with the support of his backroom staff, which saw the club secure League One status."

Stephen Clemence appointed Barrow head coach on two-year contract..i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31626530.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_GettyImages-1800544199.jpgBarrow have appointed Stephen Clemence as head coach on a two-year contract. The League Two side parted ways with former manager Pete Wild after missing out on a play-offs spot by a single point during 2023-24. The 46-year-old began his managerial career with Hull City's under-21s in 2012 before taking his first permanent senior position at Gillingham in 2023. He was sacked by the Gills in April having won only 12 of his 34 matches while in charge of the club as they finished 12th and six points off a play-off place. "I'm absolutely delighted to be here, I can't wait to get started," Clemence told Barrow's official Youtube channel, external. "I'm really looking forward to the challenge, I've got to thank the owners for the opportunity. I've had some good conversations with them and with Iain [Wood, Barrow's sporting director] and I really like the vision going forward." During his playing career, Clemence turned out for Tottenham Hotspur, Birmingham City and Leicester City. He won the League Cup with Spurs in 1998 and automatic promotion from the Championship with Blues in 2007, and later retired from playing in 2010. Barrow narrowly missed out on the play-offs this season, dropping out of the top seven on the final day to eventually finish eighth in the table. It was a disappointing end to the campaign under Wild's stewardship, as they went without a win in their final seven games and lost on five occasions during that period.

Burton appoint Mark Robinson as new head coach..i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9322886.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_GettyImages-1366853254.jpgBurton Albion have appointed Chelsea development squad boss Mark Robinson as their new head coach. The 57-year-old replaces Martin Paterson, whose departure was confirmed last month having only been appointed in January. Robinson was previously AFC Wimbledon boss for just over a year before leaving in March 2022 with the club in the bottom three of League One. After being sacked by the Dons, he was appointed by Chelsea as head of their development squad in May 2022. As boss of Chelsea's under-21 side, he guided them to two top four finishes in the Premier League 2 table. His appointment at Burton follows the Nordic Football Group's takeover of the east Staffordshire club, with Ole Jakob Strandhagen becoming chairman and Fleur Robinson, daughter of former owner Ben, named as chief executive. Hareide said Robinson "fits well" with the club and was what the new owners desired. "Mark brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in developing players and teams, which aligns perfectly with our vision for Burton Albion," added Hareide.

Birmingham City appoint Spurs' Chris Davies as new manager..by Ged Scott, BBC Sport England.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/06/16/85804189-13502585-image-a-1_1717688615195.jpgBirmingham City have appointed Tottenham Hotspur assistant boss Chris Davies as their new manager on a four-year deal. Davies, 39, who was a coach at Swansea City, Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers, succeeds Tony Mowbray at the newly relegated League One club. Blues have agreed a compensation package with Spurs as Davies still had two years left on his contract. The club spoke to over 40 candidates - reportedly including Frank Lampard and Alex Neil - for the job, which became vacant on 21st May when Mowbray confirmed he would not be returning to the role for health reasons. "From our first meeting, it was clear we were aligned on values and shared our ambition for Blues," said owner and chairman Tom Wagner, who was part of the recruitment panel along with co-owner Tom Brady and chief executive Garry Cook. "He is widely respected in the game and fulfils our goal to appoint an ambitious, progressive coach. He is motivated to help redefine the club, the culture, and the playing identity." Davies added: "As soon as I spoke with Tom, Garry, Tom Brady, and other board members it was clear to me how passionate and committed the football leadership team are to bringing success to this club. “I will give everything to build an attacking team that reflects this great city, and most importantly to produce a team that our supporters can be proud of.”
