BBC reports that a Mayors house was rammed with a car which was then set on fire,as the Mayors wife and children fled they were attacked and the wife and one young child hospitalised.

Ark at Oldie the Ayatollah!
Offers nothing but arrogant insult, that's all he's got.
At least some posters attempt conversation.
Instead of your usual appealing to certain posters, why not give us your view on the situation.

Apparently the now dead teenager (and under age driver),had already driven away after being told to stop by Police. On catching the car up he was told ' don't drive off or we'll shoot you'!
He drove off. They shot him. He's dead.
That's tragic, but if a policeman tells you not to drive away or we'll shoot you. What would you do?Does fire burn?
The Cop will face a murder charge.
Would'nt he get a pat on the back in the US?
I think he'll get plenty of understanding from the French people.

Would'nt he get a pat on the back in the US?I think he'll get plenty of understanding from the French people. A few years ago I was cruising down interstate 75 towards Knoxville when a police car appeared behind me and I realized I was about 20 mph over the limit. My son was with me and he chuckled as we pulled over and waited for the policeman to approach the car. I opened the drivers side window and the policeman came up and said something which I didn’t quite catch so I got a bit flustered and my son said “ Dad, Dad, he wants us to put our hands on the dashboard where he can see them”. We both did it immediately, the policeman relaxed, I relaxed and then got the expected bollocking plus a ticket which cost me $150. I honestly believe the policeman would have acted the same way regardless of my race, age, gender or anything else. He was making sure we weren’t going to pull a gun on him and the easiest way to do that was for him to be able to see our hands. It’s so simple really, you do what a policeman asks and there is no trouble or you don’t do what he asks and there is potentially trouble for you and everyone else. The problem we have is that so many leaders of society, from both sides of the political divide, are encouraging people to believe they don’t have to comply with the law or to respect the law enforcers. And the result of this is an increase in anarchic behavior which harms everyone but which does a disproportionate amount of harm to those who are weak and vulnerable and whom society should be protecting.

In the UK you see plenty 'rewriting ' the law to suit themselves. Agreed and it sounds as you and your son got it right.Do as a Cop tells you and you eg won't get shot. The dead French Algerian had already driven away from the Police order to stop, obviously the Law did'nt apply to him,it was inconvenient. Then the Police caught up with him, told him not to drive off again or they'll shoot him.Again he felt above the Law and it seemsdid'nt believe they would shoot him?So fire burns and now he's dead.will France get over all this? In the US too many Cops have lost colleagues for them to take chances. Of course if they somehow got rid of the guns.Etc.

My god....even in the States the police do not get a "pat on the back" for killing teenagers. As for Swiss's assertion -
"I honestly believe the policeman would have acted the same way regardless of my race, age, gender or anything else."
. The evidence tells us that is not true. The antagonism between some communities and police in the States is palpable. Sadly it has become this way in the UK as well.
As for this nonsense -
"In the UK you see plenty 'rewriting ' the law to suit themselves."
Who might they be then? Boris Johnson and his group of entitled people in Parliament perhaps?
We, on this forum, go around this roundabout every couple of months with the usual suspects writing unsubstantiated and clearly prejudicial comments about people and groups of whom they have zero knowledge other than parroting media outlets sought out for confirmation bias.
Frankly, it's pathetic.

The same applies to what was said on the thread about the Police tasering an 11 year old who was waving a knife. The Police do a very difficult job, that at times is life threatening to them. At the end of their shift they just want to go home alive. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

The French lady on BBC this morning had a compelling story on how French Police differ in their approach to people predicated upon race or skin colour

A " GoFundMe" plea has raised over 20'000 Euro for the French policeman!! Given the level of sympathy for ultra right wing politics in France, I am surprised it's that small of an amount

Exactly, cars can and have been used as deadly weapons,a Policeman has the right to protect himself and his colleagues and members of the public by using deadly force.

Fortunate for you then that the authorities in the UK police by consent rather than by force. Otherwise the next time you drive at 32mph in a 30mph zone, constituting a danger to users of that road you would not object to being shot...given your crass opinion.

He then drove off where he was stopped again. He was resisting. French police carry weapons. At what level of stupid do you have to be? Did he have a weapon in the car? How was the police officer to know?
