Wrexham 5 Swindon Town 5
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/24A8/production/_130848390_shutterstock_editorial_13890713cr.jpg Elliot Lee joined Wrexham from Luton Town in the summer of 2022Elliot Lee's stoppage-time goal saw Wrexham recover to secure a point in a 10-goal thriller against Swindon. Charlie Austin created Swindon's opening goal for Jake Young before scoring his side's second. Jake Bickerstaff replied but Dan Kemp and Young's second made it 4-1. Lee's penalty and James Jones gave Wrexham hope before Kemp scored Swindon's fifth, only for late goals from Jones and Lee to seal a dramatic comeback. Wrexham's Bickerstaff had the game's opening chance but the young striker was denied by a good save from on-loan keeper Murphy Mahoney. Swindon were ahead on 16 minutes when Remeao Hutton's ball was headed across the face of goal for Young to nod home. Mahoney tipped over Ollie Palmer's header from Elliot Lee's corner before Austin extended Swindon's lead. The former Southampton and QPR striker poked home for his first goal of the season after good work from Kemp. Bickerstaff won the ball on the by-line and cut inside into the area before firing home past Mahoney. But within a minute and a half Kemp restored the visitors' two-goal advantage with an effort from the edge of the area. Swindon's fourth in the space of 18 minutes came when Young shot on the turn beat Ben Foster for his second of the afternoon. Wrexham were given a lifeline five minutes into the second half when Lee scored from the penalty spot after Palmer had been wrestled to the ground. Lee was the provider for the home side's third, with Jones lifting the ball over the oncoming keeper. Palmer should have levelled only to put the ball wide from close range and in an end to end second half Kemp struck the crossbar for the visitors. But there was no denying Kemp a minute later with a shot from the edge of the area that beat Foster for his second and Swindon's fifth. However Wrexham were not finished as Jones turned in Jacob Mendy's cross to make it 5-4 in stoppage time. And the extraordinary comeback was complete when Lee netted the rebound after substitute Anthony Forde's free-kick was parried. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "Where do you start? At 4-1 down at half-time I was confident we could respond and that's a credit to the group. "I've been in dressing rooms before as a player and as a manager where that would worry you and it certainly didn't. "But we've also got to be honest that the very basics have got to be so much better." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/164F8/production/_130848319_shutterstock_editorial_14042733ew.jpg

Ollie Palmer met Elliot Lee's superb cross to beat visiting goalkeeper Jake Eastwood to open the scoring. Grimsby keeper Eastwood then saw Will Boyle add the second, while at the other end Arthur Gnahoua was among those denied in the first half. Sam Dalby then set up Lee to seal victory in the 79th minute. The visitors dropped from eighth to 14th after the first meeting between the clubs since Grimsby won 5-4 in a National League play-off semi-final at Wrexham in 2022, before winning promotion to the National League. Wrexham assistant manager Steve Parkin said: "It was good because we were playing against a good team. "Grimsby are well organised and have had a good start to the season and I think we've been striving and looking for a real, solid workmanlike, but with good football in it (performance). "We've not quite had it in long periods, by today I thought we were really good."

Luke Armstrong: Wrexham apologise to Harrogate Town and their striker over failed transfer..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/1AF3/production/_130999860_shutterstock_editorial_14052163be.jpg Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong has scored 31 goals in 106 appearances for the clubWrexham have apologised to Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong after his proposed signing on transfer deadline day failed to get over the line. The Welsh club had agreed terms with their League Two rivals for the 27-year-old but missed the 23:00 BST cut-off point on Friday, 1st September. Wrexham had considered an appeal to the EFL but have decided "there is no reasonable chance of success". Harrogate had announced on Friday night that Armstrong had joined Wrexham. But they now say Armstrong has now been registered as part of their League Two squad, with manager Simon Weaver describing his unexpected involvement as a "huge boost". Wrexham's statement said: "Having reviewed the additional information received from the EFL and considered this in the context of the submission of the documents for the transfer of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town, the club have determined there is no reasonable chance of success if we were to appeal the EFL's decision to reject the transfer. "We wish to apologise to Luke as we were unable to complete the transfer by the deadline and Harrogate Town, who we are sure will be as disappointed as we are that the transfer will not now be completed in this window.

Ben Tozer: 'Dad was scared because he knew something was wrong'..By Aled Williams, BBC Sport Wales.ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/A1DA/production/_131243414_gettyimages-1555597149.jpg"The last time I spoke with him, the last words we said was 'I love you' to each other even though we didn't know what was going to happen." The emotions are still evidently raw two months on as Wrexham club captain Ben Tozer talks about the loss of his father. On a Saturday evening in late April, Keith Tozer had watched from the stands as Ben lifted the National League trophy amid jubilant scenes at the Racecourse Stadium. Wrexham had just beaten Boreham Wood to win the title and secure promotion back to the Football League after a 15-year absence. Defender Tozer had played every minute of the record-breaking campaign, and his father regularly made the round trip of more than 500 miles from his home in Plymouth to north Wales to watch him in action. "He would come to the games up here and would drive up with my uncle," Tozer said. "He was here the day we won the league, which was amazing for me." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/82FE/production/_131243533_gettyimages-1252140652.jpgWrexham club captain Ben Tozer lifts the National League trophy in April 2023 with team captain Luke Young, who was also born in PlymouthBut amid the title-winning celebrations, Ben sensed that something was not right with his father. "He'd come to the games but he'd always get off before I got out, which I found a bit of a red flag," Ben added. "He wasn't well but I never got to see him and it was almost as if he was hiding from me, which now I know why. "I went to a friend's funeral at the end of last season and one of the guys my dad worked with said 'I saw your dad and he didn't quite seem the same'. "My brother said it, my wife raised concerns and my dad said 'It's alright, I'm getting checked, I'll get checked'. "Obviously it ended up too late because by the time he got checked he passed away a few days later." In July, Keith, having been admitted to hospital, was diagnosed with leukaemia but sadly a few days later died. Ben describes those few days as a "whirlwind". "I trained on the Monday, got the train down to Plymouth and got there just before they switched everything off," he said. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11F3E/production/_131243537_gettyimages-1556940127.jpgBen Tozer (left) in action against Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson on the US tour - a week after his father Keith died"The gaffer [Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson] helped massively, straight away even little things like first-class ticket on the train, offered to get me a helicopter to Plymouth, things like that. "The Tuesday it was literally the only day I was going to be in Plymouth apart from his funeral. "The day after he passed away we sorted his house out, Wednesday I travelled back up and then we were away to America which was a bit strange because I felt too normal. "I felt 'right I've got a job to do, I've got to do this, crack on'. "I didn't even think about it, I was so busy. It was one thing after another. "I suppose if I was home, what would I do? Just cry? So I might as well just crack on." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E9C2/production/_120324895_tozer.jpgBen Tozer and manager Phil ParkinsonTozer shared the news of his father's passing on Twitter, with the club's co-owner Ryan Reynolds among those to pass on their condolences. The former Newcastle United player travelled with the rest of Wrexham's squad for a historic tour of the United States, where the club was gaining huge interest due to the success of the documentary Welcome to Wrexham. But it was before the first game against Chelsea in North Carolina that the enormity of his loss and the emotions of the previous week hit Tozer. "I was warming up - and no-one has seen this and it's first time speaking about it now - I was getting upset and tears were coming down my face," Tozer says. "I knew that he'd have been at home watching that game whether it was two o'clock in the morning or not. "Then the whole tour went on and by the end of the tour we were in Philadelphia, I didn't speak to anyone apart from my wife back here but I seemed fine again. "Then the day before we came back from America, it was almost like I was scared to come home to face the reality. "I came back, trained on the Tuesday, got the train down to Plymouth after training, had the funeral on the Wednesday and the season started on the Saturday. "He would have been at the first game, which was tough. "Dads are the ones that took you to games, that's where it's been toughest, around the games really." Tozer, 33, acknowledges that he is yet to fully come to terms with his father's death. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/05B3/production/_130195410_gettyimages-1464129322.jpgBen Tozer played 51 games for Wrexham last seasonBut by speaking publicly about his loss, Tozer hopes other men do not put off going to see a GP if they feel unwell, especially symptoms of leukaemia such as fatigue, bruising in unusual places and weight loss. "It's hard for me to say it but my dad was scared. He was scared to hear what was the matter. "And also being a bloke, an old school bloke, never wanted to admit anything was wrong. "But ultimately he was scared to know what was up because he knew something was wrong. "Even for myself, I've always been someone who rolls up their sleeves and gets on with it. "It's a bit of a taboo but it's something that's so important to go and simply get checked - don't leave it too late. "If there is anyone who has symptoms that are abnormal then please go and get them checked."

Wrexham 3 Crewe 3Substitute Steven Fletcher rescued a point for 10-man Wrexham in the last moments of a compelling Stok Racecourse encounter against Crewe Alexandra. Mickey Demetriou headed the visitors' opener before Wrexham winger Ryan Bennett saw red after a bad tackle on Shilow Tracey. Paul Mullin equalised, but Chris Long's penalty put Crewe 2-1 up at the break. Mullin hit back again and although Tracey put Crewe ahead once more, Fletcher's late header rescued Wrexham. Wrexham's Will Boyle and manager Phil Parkinson were yellow carded in the wake of the incident that led to Long scoring from the spot. Crewe dropped a place to sixth in the League Two table with the hosts falling two spots to ninth. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson: "It was a day of immense character by the lads today. We questioned everything last week (after their 5-0 defeat at Stockport), but today we answered a lot of those questions. "Second half I thought we were the better team. We had some great chances. "If we hadn't got a draw it would have been a bit of an injustice. I'm disappointed we didn't win the game, even with 10 men, but more importantly for me it was the spirit, the determination, the fighting spirit; everything we won and implemented over the last few years at the club was just great." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/95FB/production/_131359383_gettyimages-1659528283.jpg Ollie Palmer's goal at Crawley was his third of the seasonOllie Palmer's first-half goal secured victory at former club Crawley to end Wrexham's three-match winless run in League Two. Palmer scored with audacious flick over Corey Addai after James McClean's cross was deflected. Addai made a crucial save to deny Paul Mullin late in the first half Wrexham were reduced to 10 men in the second half when Andy Cannon was shown a red card seven minutes after coming on for his challenge on Adam Campbell. Phil Parkinson's side are up to seventh and in the play-off places while Crawley are eighth after a second successive defeat. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "It's a huge win for us. They're a decent side and have done well this season. There was a great togetherness about the group and you could sense it. "All I can say about the sending off is that the ref goes to pull a yellow card out of his pocket and I'd like to ask him what changed his mind because the lad's rolled on the floor, so theatrical. "But in adversity the lads have dug really deep and that's great for us."

Saturday 14th October 2023 - League 2 - Wrexham 3 (Lee 39, Fletcher 88, Davies 89) Salford 2 (Smith 15, 36)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17591/production/_131433659_hi088685295.jpg Matt Smith's diving header gave Salford an early lead at WrexhamTwo late goals from Steven Fletcher and Jordan Davies saw Wrexham snatch a thrilling victory from Salford City. Salford struck first, Stephen Mallan crossing to the back post for Matt Smith to head home. Matty Lund doubled Salford's lead when Arthur Okonkwo could only parry a cross, although Elliot Lee pulled a goal back, heading in a corner. Fletcher turned home Paul Mullin's cross to level, before Davies struck to send the home crowd into a frenzy. Wrexham move up to fifth, three points behind League Two leaders Stockport County, while Salford drop to 15th after having their three-match winning streak ended in dramatic fashion. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/17857/production/_131434369_hi088688585.jpgWrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:"I'm so pleased with the win, it was one of those days where the sun was low and there was a bit of a lacklustre feel to the game. "We didn't play with the quality I wanted in that first period but we still had some good moments and some good chances. "I felt if we got it to 2-2 the momentum would be really with us and we'd go on and win the game and that's what happened. "And special mention to the subs because on days like that where you just need a lift of tempo and energy they really gave us it."

Saturday 21st October 2023 - Bradford 1 Wrexham 1 (Mullin 68)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A897/production/_131495134_shutterstock_editorial_14157501r.jpg Wrexham striker Paul Mullin was booked for an early foulThe sides remained locked after a fierce first half that saw five bookings dished out, including one for Paul Mullin after just two minutes. Bradford went close when Jamie Walker's deflected shot was turned round the post by Dragons keeper Arthur Okonkwo. Mullin pounced with a sharp header from Ryan Barnett's cross to take the lead, but sub Wilson equalised with a shot in off the underside of the crossbar. The goal was winger Wilson's first for the Bantams. The fourth-tier match was played out in front of a bumper 21,552 spectators, including 2,624 travelling Wrexham fans. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "Definitely a hard-earned point. We knew coming here today with a full house it was going to be a feisty encounter, it was fast and furious at times. "When you go a goal ahead you want to take the three points, but we had to withstand pressure in the second period. I thought the way we defended our box was outstanding. "Obviously disappointed to concede, but this is a difficult place to come, especially with the atmosphere today and it's another hard-earned point for us." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/7786/production/_131489503_gettyimages-1659528382-1.jpgOllie Palmer came on in the 67th minute

Phil Parkinson: Wrexham and Notts County have 'mutual respect'..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13423/production/_131538887_gettyimages-1481193217-1.jpg Wrexham finished four points clear of Notts County to win the 2022-23 National League titleWrexham boss Phil Parkinson says there is "mutual respect" between his side and League Two rivals Notts County. The clubs were involved in a thrilling National League title race last season, with Wrexham emerging as Champions. Notts County were promoted via the play-offs and are currently second in League Two, three points ahead of third-placed Wrexham whom they host on Saturday. "We know what they're all about, they know us," Parkinson said. "There's a mutual respect between both clubs and both teams because we went toe-to-toe last season. "I think we put the National League on the map. "Certainly the game we played them here [Racecourse], the 3-2 was as memorable a game as you're going to get in the National League." Wrexham replaced Notts County at the top of the National League and went on to win the title after a thrilling Easter Bank Holiday Monday game in which Parkinson's men won 3-2. Elliot Lee's goal and Ben Foster's stoppage-time penalty save to deny Cedwyn Scott saw Wrexham come out on top. "It was a huge game and I don't think anyone will ever forget it," Parkinson said of the April encounter between the sides. "It had been built up for so long and we'd got beaten on the Friday at Halifax, our first defeat for a long time. "I thought it was a really good performance from us that day. We had a game plan and we stuck to it to the letter and it was an excellent win. "And obviously it was pivotal in us finally clinching the title." Although Wrexham won at home against Luke Williams' side and went on to claim the title, they had been beaten 1-0 at Meadow Lane earlier in the season. Wrexham go into Saturday's game unbeaten in their last six matches, including Tuesday's late 2-1 win over bottom of the table Sutton United, while Notts County have won their last two league games. "Going into the game on the back of a win is terrific for us," Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales. "We go to Meadow Lane full of confidence. We're going to go to have a real go at them. "I think that's the key of the balance of our performance - understanding what areas they're strong at but equally where's the space when we get the ball, where can we hurt them?" ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Notts County 0 Wrexham 2 (Lee 73, Palmer 76)

After a glut of chances had gone to waste, Lee broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute with a clinical strike - his 10th goal of the season. Palmer then added the second from close range in the 76th minute. Wrexham go level on 30 points with second-placed Notts, five behind leaders Stockport County. It was Wrexham's second straight win over Notts, following the 3-2 comeback victory at the Racecourse Ground on Easter Monday which all but sealed the National League title against their season-long promotion rivals. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/86D9/production/_131612543_olpalm.jpg Ollie Palmer scored Wrexham's clinching second goal at Meadow Lane - just four minutes after the opener
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:"It's up there in terms of wins in my time as a manager at Wrexham because we've had a lot of disruption this week. "To have all that disruption and put in a performance like we did is enormous credit to the lads and Notts are a good side - we know that. "But the way the lads implemented the game plan we set out was outstanding and it was a really important three points for us."

SATURDAY 25th NOVEMBER 2023 - LEAGUE TWO
Wrexham 6 (Senior 5 og, Mullin 7, 67, 77, Mendy 35, Jones 90+6) Morecambe 0
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E02F/production/_131819375_shutterstock_editorial_14228825n.jpg Wrexham have lost three League Two games this season, one less than leaders Stockport CountyPaul Mullin scored a hat-trick as Wrexham continued their League Two promotion push by hammering managerless Morecambe at the Stok Racecourse. Joel Senior's own goal and Mullin's strike put the hosts 2-0 up within the opening seven minutes and Jacob Mendy added Wrexham's third before the break. The visitors had no answer as Mullin fired in two more after half-time and James Jones finished off the scoring. Wrexham rose a place to second in the table as Morecambe stayed ninth. Morecambe are seeking a new manager following Derek Adams' return to Ross County. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/1CDF/production/_131819370_shutterstock_editorial_14228825o.jpgWrexham boss Phil Parkinson said:"We're not used to losing (in last week's defeat to Accrington Stanley) and it hurts to lose and it doesn't matter how many games you've managed, it never gets easier. "But once the game has gone, there's nothing you can do about it apart from look to the next one and how we're going to respond, and the training has been outstanding this week. "You could sense there was a determination in the group and what a way to respond with an emphatic 6-0 victory. "So obviously, we're very pleased and this is a good day's work for us because Morecambe are a dangerous team on the counter-attack." Attendance: 10,224

SUNDAY 3rd DECEMBER 2023 - THE FA CUP - SECOND ROUND
Wrexham 3 (Palmer 14, Cannon 45+3, Dalby 90+3) Yeovil 0
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/1063B/production/_131913176_hi090084726.jpg Paul Mullin takes evasive action as fellow striker Ollie Palmer puts Wrexham ahead against YeovilWrexham were without on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo because of a jaw injury, with Mark Howard taking over between the posts. His opposite number Day is on loan from Newport County and would have been keen to get one over their Welsh rivals. But he could do little for Wrexham's opener, doing well to keep out Palmer's initial effort from Cannon's excellent cross, only to be left helpless when the ball fell to Palmer for a second bite at goal. Wrexham suffered an early injury blow when defender Aaron Hayden was forced off because of a calf strain, with James Jones taking his place in the back three. It took more than half an hour for Yeovil to trouble Howard, who had been largely a spectator up to that point, but was alert to go full stretch to keep out Charlie Cooper's effort. Young was then unfortunate when his fine free-kick hit the woodwork rather then the net with Howard beaten. In the last moments of the first half Wrexham struck again when Ben Tozer's long throw was only cleared to the edge of the area, allowing Cannon to fire a bouncing ball back through a crowd of players past an unsighted Day. Yeovil came out for the second half full of determination but had only a couple of shots from distance blazed over the bar to show for a bright first 10 minutes, with Frank Nouble at the heart of their best attacking efforts. But as the rain began to pour down, Wrexham wrested back a measure of control and Jacob Mendy was unlucky to see his left-foot shot from outside the box skid just the wrong side of Day's left-hand post. That still left Wrexham open to a swift counter and Young's incisive pass picked out a charging Murphy, fresh off the bench, only for George Evans to time his sliding tackle to perfection. Back came Wrexham and as the Yeovil defence backed off, Jones was just wide with a dipping shot across the face of goal. Mendy then worked space after good work by Mullin, only to slip as he tried to shoot, before James McClean's shot was deflected over. Dalby gave the scoreline extra gloss as Yeovil chased the game, finishing off a slick Wrexham counter before sending the ball over the advancing Day and into the net. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:"First half it was very comfortable for us but credit to Yeovil, they came back into the game. But we'd expect that, they're a good team and are doing really well in their league. "When you're a team at the top of the table in your respective league you've got certain qualities and one of those is character, and Yeovil showed that in the second period, they never gave in. "We couldn't quite find that final pass to go and kill the game off like we intended to do, right until the last minute when Dalby scored a terrific goal."

Arthur Okonkwo: Wrexham's on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper to have surgery on jaw..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/40EF/production/_131932661_shutterstock_editorial_14228825bd.jpg Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has made 13 Wrexham appearances since signing on a season-long loan from ArsenalWrexham's on-loan goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has returned to parent club Arsenal for minor surgery. The 22-year-old suffered a jaw injury in the 2-2 draw at Harrogate Town on 28 November which saw him withdrawn at half-time. Mark Howard took over between the posts and then played in Sunday's 3-0 FA Cup second-round win over Yeovil Town. Okonkwo is expected to be out for weeks rather than months and will likely play in a protective mask on his return. Okonkwo has made 13 Wrexham appearances since signing on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day.

Wrexham: Boss Phil Parkinson relishes opening of Kop stand at Stok Racecourse..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/30CF/production/_132059421_wrexhamstand.jpg The temporary stand is on the site of the old Kop terrace - an all-standing area with a capacity of 4,900 before it was decommissioned 16 years ago.Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is relishing the opening of a new temporary Stok Racecourse Kop stand. He hopes the 2,289-capacity facility will open in time for the League Two Welsh derby against Newport County on Saturday, 23 December. "I'm so pleased, when the supporters arrive at the ground there's a different feel to the place," said Parkinson. "We're very excited about getting the supporters in there." The development funded by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will take Wrexham's capacity beyond 12,000 for the first time in 16 years. A new 5,500 all-seater stand is planned as a long-term replacement for the Kop end, unused since 2007. After delays to the start of work, the temporary stand will be erected as Wrexham seek to cash in on their status as a rising club in English football. They have regularly sold out home games since their high-profile takeover by Hollywood duo Reynolds and McElhenney in February 2021, including capacity 10,771 crowds following their return to the Football League after a 15-year absence. Parkinson said: "When you look at it, there's a lot of people who support the club who have been unable to get tickets and this enables over 2,000 [to be] in the ground, but also it enhances the atmosphere around the stadium and that's what the Racecourse is all about." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5565/production/_131916812_gettyimages-1249439136.jpg The Kop terrace was an all-standing area with a capacity of 4,900 before it was decommissioned 16 years ago and demolished earlier this year

SATURDAY 16th DECEMBER 2023 - LEAGUE TWO
Wrexham 2 (Lee 4, Evans sent off 26, Mitchell 59 og) Colchester 1
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/11497/production/_132070807_shutterstock_editorial_14259122bd.jpg This was Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds' reaction to Elliot Lee's opening goalTen-man Wrexham's promotion push continued as they added to struggling Colchester United's troubles. Elliot Lee fired home from close range in the fourth minute, but before the half was up, the hosts were down a man. George Evans was shown a straight red for a challenge on midfield opponent Arthur Read. Zach Mitchell's own goal doubled the hosts' lead, but the spirited visitors hit back late on through Jayden Fevrier. Despite victory Wrexham dropped a place to third in the table as Barrow went above them on goal difference thanks to a 3-0 at Swindon Town while Colchester remain a place off the relegation zone. Wrexham next host Newport County in a highly-anticipated Welsh derby on Saturday, 23 December while Colchester host Salford the previous evening. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "That's a colossus effort from the lads and I'm very proud of the performance today. "We got the early goal and then the sending off. Colchester have got some very good technical players and some dangerous players in and around the box. First half from the sending off I thought we sat a bit deep and we didn't engage in our own final third or the middle. "We were good enough to make passes in the game and I feel we did that really well in the second period. It's a real effort from the lads today, throughout the season you get so many different types of games and challenges and today was a different problem for us to solve and I thought we did it really well."

Report By Ian Mitchelmore, BBC Sport Wales at the Stok Racecourse.Wrexham broke a 120-year record as they defeated Welsh rivals Newport County 2-0 at the Racecourse. County created the better openings in the first half but fell behind to James Jones' 64th-minute strike after the Dragons improved. Elliot Lee netted in the final stages as Wrexham scored for the 49th home league game running, their best run since 1903. Wrexham stay third in League Two while Newport are 17th. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson:"It was important that we were ready to scrap, and I felt we did that very well. "All in all I thought the lads stuck to the job in hand today and got a really important three points for us. "We just said at half-time, 'we've got to keep growing'." Newport County manager Graham Coughlan: "I thought both teams had good moments in the game. "They scored from two long throws. We had opportunities and the first goal was always going to be big in this fixture. "We had one or two sloppy moments and that's probably what's cost us. It's disappointing when it comes down to two set-pieces."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17F60/production/_132144189_shutterstock_editorial_14270301ck.jpg James McClean's only previous goal for Wrexham came in their Football League Trophy win over Port Vale in November.Wrexham rose to second in League Two courtesy of a 1-0 win at Swindon Town. James McClean's 13th-minute strike, his first league goal for the Dragons, proved enough for the visitors - who had James Jones sent off late on. Victory, their third in a row in the league, lifted Phil Parkinson's side above Barrow who drew 2-2 with leaders Stockport County. Wrexham sign off 2023 with a trip to Walsall on Friday night before hosting Barrow on New Year's Day. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:"It's an outstanding win for us. We had other chances to kill the game, second half the kid (Lewis Ward) has pulled off some great saves. "We just got on with the job today and it's a magnificent win for us. "It's a really important three points for us on our travels, especially with the disruption we had to face."

FRIDAY 29th DECEMBER 2023 - LEAGUE TWO
Walsall 3 Wrexham 1 (Mullin 24 pen)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12775/production/_132173657_gettyimages-1774938190-1.jpg Player of the match Isaac Hutchinson was among the Walsall goal scorersWrexham dropped down to third in League Two with a 3-1 defeat away to Walsall. Jack Earing's shot into the bottom right corner gave Walsall the lead before Paul Mullin levelled. Tom Knowles was penalised for a handball in the box and Mullin made no mistake from the penalty spot. Isaac Hutchinson's free-kick restored the home side's lead after the break, before Taylor Allen's close range effort on the counter attack sealed a deserved win. The result ends Wrexham's three match winning run, while Walsall rise to 13th in the table with back-to-back victories. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "Obviously disappointing to lose. I thought the first half it was a good game, both teams all out and a lot of good football played. "Second half I felt the [Hutchinson] goal just gave them a huge lift of energy. "Two teams who have played back-to-back games quickly and the goal gave them a lift of adrenalin and we found it difficult to respond today. "We probably tried to force things after that."
