Apparently £250,000 might be enough to sign Alfie May. Looks a bargain to me. Bristol Rovers enter race to sign Charlton Athletic, Derby County and Gillingham target Alfie May from Cheltenham Town..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5EB0/production/_122904242_shutterstock_editorial_12615244m.jpgBristol Rovers have entered the race to sign Cheltenham Town's Alfie May, Gloucestershire Live understands. The prolific striker, who turned 30 on Monday, has been chased by Charlton Athletic, Derby County and Gillingham this summer, but he could now be on his way to the Memorial Stadium. May has netted 43 goals in the last two League One seasons, helping the Robins achieve the two highest finishes in their 136-year history, becoming their record EFL goalscorer and winning back-to-back Player of the Year awards in the process. He has reported back for pre-season training with Cheltenham, but he is widely expected to depart before the 2023/24 campaign kicks off with a trip to Shrewsbury Town on August 5. May has another year left to run on his contract at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium, with the club having the option of extending it for another 12 months and it is likely to take a fee of at least £250,000 to prise him away. Doncaster Rovers are entitled to 20 per cent of any fee Cheltenham receive for May, who cost them £5,000 in January 2020. Gillingham are understood to have had an offer in the region of £200,000 rebuffed. Their boss Neil Harris was asked about their interest in Kent-born May on Monday and described it as a "long shot". “I have been asked about that from every person I have seen in the street, the fella at the petrol station who got out of the car wash and the woman who asked me about it while I was having a coffee at Costa!" he told Kent Online. “I have to be respectful to the situation that the player is attached to a club. It is a player we are very fond of, with his roots as well. It is very open-ended at the moment, that is about as much as I can say.” “Alfie is Cheltenham’s player and involves quite a large transfer fee and although he is a player we are interested in it is a long shot to get him, we will have to be realistic as well. "Would Alfie May be a quality addition to any League Two team? Hell yeah! Without a shadow of a doubt.” Charlton boss Dean Holden refused to comment on his club's position, although they are understood to have made a significant offer, subject to the completion of a takeover at The Valley. “I can’t talk about these players – it’s disrespectful,” said Holden. “I’d hate to come away from here and see other managers have spoken about one of our players. "I think that’s disrespectful. It’s the wrong thing to do. It just adds to the hype. We’re working very diligently and quietly in the background.”

Apparently £250,000 might be enough to sign Alfie May. Looks a bargain to me. Only a bargain if it achieved promotion, Not like he will increase in value for the rest of his career. Failure to be promoted may make him look expensive. No guarantees he would be a good fit or even stay fit.

Is Nationwide still on our side ? Yes Frank,Hugh Scully is lending us the dosh!👍 And Frank Bough was innocent ! I think Alfie May is the type of reliable down to earth player who can provide balance to the team and his injury record looks good so in that respect he would be a low risk signing. But paying a £250 000 fee would only make financial sense if it was coming out of a much larger fee received for Aaron Collins.

Obviously we've not signed Alfie yet,but if we do he's another scorer and creator. Anyone seen that goal of his from the halfway line last season? He scored 20 and got double figures in assists. One of his goals, YouTube. "Alfie May scores unreal volley from the half way line." Maybe someone could put it up.

I think what you say is how any such deal would be sold to the ultimate decision maker. If we had a Head of Finance then he or she would be able to do an analysis and calculate the chances of crowds averaging 10 900 next season, which would be the highest in nearly fifty years, so that a reasoned decision could be made. But as it is the decision will be based on emotion with a lot of “”if’s” and “ hope” thrown in.

Alfie May: Charlton Athletic sign Cheltenham Town striker for undisclosed fee..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0637/production/_130319510_shutterstock_editorial_13891944be.jpg Alfie May scored 22 goals in 46 outings in all competitions for Cheltenham last seasonCharlton Athletic have signed striker Alfie May from fellow League One club Cheltenham Town for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old scored 67 goals in 165 appearances for the Robins after joining from Doncaster in January 2020. May has agreed a two-year contract at The Valley and becomes Charlton's third signing of the summer transfer window. "As well as being a proven goalscorer, his work rate for the team is exceptional," Addicks boss Dean Holden told the club website. Only three players scored more than May's 20 League One goals last season, with Cheltenham finishing 16th - eight points and six places below Charlton.

The grapevine whispers are saying Austrian GK Martin Freidl. Was at Arminia Bielefeld ,Bundesliga II, last season
Played alot of Bundesliga II football I think and has been called up into the Austrian squad for a few games, not sure if he has actually earnt a cap yet.
30 years old.
Looking on YT clips he can stop shots, good at 1 on 1s,scored once, can play the sweeper keeper, can pass with foot and hand.
About the only thing I did'nt see was him coming off his line to deal with crosses.Perhaps that was'nt considered exciting enough to put in,as it was'nt an advert for him by his agent ( if he has one ).I did see him palm a couple of shots away and I would'nt be surprised if that's how he deals with crosses.
I suspect he would become our first choice GK.
Edit. He's started following our Wael,Joe and Bristol Rovers on social media.
Maybe he's only been on the cider.😉

Josh Coburn has signed a 4 year deal with Middlesbrough.
I wonder if he'll have another season out on loan.

In case he signs this week MARTIN FRAISL Born 10.5.1993 Wolfsbach, Austria 6’ 3”; 12st 12 lbs GK Career: 2001 Sportunion Wolfsbach (2010 professional); 2010 USC Seitenstetten(free); July 2012 SV Stierning (free); 1.7.13 Wiener Sportclub (free); 30.6.15 Wiener Neustadt (free) [1,0]; 1.7.15 Wiener Sportclub (loan) [29,0]; 1.1.16 Floridsdorfer AC (free) [62,1]; 18.7.18 Betosani (free) [15,0]; 30.6.19 SV Sandhausen (free) [45,0]; 20.1.21 ADO Den Haag (free) [15,0]; 21.7.21 Schalke 04 (free) [26,0]; 24.8.22 Arminia Bielefeld (free).
Having skied competitively and not taken up football in earnest before he was sixteen, tall Austrian goalkeeper Martin Fraisl enjoyed a steady rise through the leagues in his home country before, from 2018, playing abroad. Two games for Wolfsbach, twelve at Seitenstetten and 25 for Stierning preceded an Austrian League début for Wiener Sportclub against Oberwart in September 2013. He played 21 times for Wiener SC in the regional division and 29 times in the second-tier, appearing in a 7-0 victory over Neuberg in March 2015 and the thumping 12-1 home cup defeat to Salzburg in September 2014, for whom the future Manchester United player Marcel Sabitzer scored twice. A loan spell at Neustadt included a second-tier appearance in the 2-0 defeat at Austria Lusternau in September 2025 as well as a cup defeat at Ebreichsdorf. For Floridsdorfer, Fraisl ran up an impressive tally of Liga 2 appearances, was sent off five minutes before half-time in the 3-0 home defeat to St Pölten in April 2016 and notably scored a last-minute equaliser at Kapfenberger in May 2018, when set up by Marco Kröpfl, in a 3-3 draw. Following a spell in Romanian football, he moved to Germany in 2019, making his début against Holstein Kiel in July 2019 and playing in the memorable 4-4 draw at Bochum the following March, Sandhausen scoring two penalties in the final five minutes. During the 2019-20 season he played every minute, until he was substituted in the dying moments of the final game, against Hamburg. Fifteen games for Den Haag in the Dutch Eredivisie included a début against Emmen and a crushing 5-0 loss at Ajax in March 2021. Fraisl kept eight clean sheets as Schalke won Bundesliga 2 in 2021-22, but he was not retained and moved to Bielefeld where, having first appeared against Eintracht Braunschweig in August 2022, he was in the side defeated 6-0 at Stuttgart in the cup and eventually relegated after losing a two-legged play-off against Wehen Wiesbaden. Club form, though, earned a place in the Austrian squad for four UEFA Nations League matches in the summer of 2022. He has a degree in Sports Management. Martin Fraisl and his partner Michaela Schmetterling have a daughter Mia, born in June 2020, and a son, Martin junior, born in May
