Simon: That is really tough. How do you balance the merits of a goalkeeper or a full-back against a striker? I am a huge Declan Rice fan and he could turn out to be the difference between Arsenal fading away in the title race, as they did last season, and really going for it. Allison and Ederson are both excellent. But it always comes down to attacking players doesn’t it. Pep Guardiola clearly thinks Phil Foden. I am sure some Villa fans will say Ollie Watkins. But, to me, it is between four – Haaland, De Bruyne, Salah and Saka. Whoever wins the title is the best.

Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland set to face press
Manchester City v FC Copenhagen - Wed 8pm

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland also faced the press before the team's Champions League match tomorrow night. He was first asked about his motivation after winning : "You can think about it in two ways, one thing I came here and won it. The other thing I am 23 I have a taste of winning. When I feel this I want to win it again." On losing trophies to Messi: "He won it and he won the World Cup, he is the best that has ever played I think." And on playing Liverpool: "I haven't thought of that game until you asked me now, I am focused on Copenhagen, It's going to be a huge game against Liverpool. We have to be ready for the game, we have to be brave and play at our best." Haaland was asked about people talking about his misses more than his goals: "Last year I got 36 goals and I was the top scorer. This season's top scorer has 18 goals so you can think about it two ways if it has been a good season or not for me. I think we are doing pretty good as a team, that is my main focus of course. I have been missing, I have missed a lot of chances. I will probably miss a big chance in the future, people will criticise me. Should I think about that? No." And on life in Manchester: "I enjoy life with my closest ones and I enjoy it." On his mental strength: "It's been a challenge for me when I was young. I could start crying if we lost and I missed a lot of chances so I have been working on it a lot. It has been a challenge, I think because I demand a lot for myself and I know my team-mates and manager demand a lot from me. It is something to work on. Haaland was next asked about how his injury affected him as a person, he replied: "It was hard because you get used to something and suddenly you don't know what to do. You have to focus on training. It's about trying to find positive things in life, life is beautiful I have a lot of beautiful people around me." And he was also asked about Rasmus Hojlund: "His start was a bit hard, he has got much better and when we played them he was good. He is young, like me, I am not the youngest anymore but still young. He has to keep on developing as a striker for Manchester United you have to score goals as well." Haaland added on his instructions from Pep Guardiola in the team on his build-up play: "I don't want to say too much on this because it is our tactic but I do what he says. I try to get involved when I should. There are a lot of things I can get better at, people say I am good at scoring goals but I missed the biggest chance ever two days ago so I can become better at that." And on his future at Manchester City amid Real Madrid links: "I am really happy, especially with the people that I am surrounded with. The manager, the directors, the board, they are a group of a people. I am really happy. If I say this now it will probably be a massive headline, you never know what the future brings but I am happy." He was also asked if he has thought about signing a new City deal: "I focus on the pitch, there is a lot of games. I think I should focus on that." Haaland was asked about his relationship with FC Copenhagen after training with them in his early career: "I was on a trial with them in 2016, I think a couple of guys at the club wanted me but not all of them so it didn't happen. Sad for them. But maybe good for me as I went to Malta and it was a good choice. I like the club, it is nice club as well." And on if he was interested in joining FC Copenhagen in 2016: "Yeah I was interested. Obviously was to join the U19s then, I was interested. That is why I went there. I even got a shirt, number nine with Haaland, I think I still have it at home. But my destiny was another way." Finally he was asked about facing the club tomorrow: "It's a challenge. Look at what they did in the group games, they made it really difficult. I like the challenge, I like the Champions League and meet different teams and go to different countries." Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on how quickly Erling Haaland settled in at the club: "Erling it was so quick. The guys really embrace the new ones, but the news ones have to do the step depending on who they are. He was smiling. What impressed the most on the pitch was his character. The bigger star they are the more humble they are. I don't know why but it happened at Barcelona. Normally the big ones understand better."

The Norwegian has fired his way to the top of most elite clubs' transfer shortlists after a dominant first season with Manchester City was followed by another golden boot race-leading second term. He battered and bludgeoned his way to multiple records in the Premier League in 2022-23, and as such has emerged as arguably the best No 9 in the world. With that territory, though, comes eye-watering money, and reports last April stated that he was earning some £865,000-a-week at the Etihad. With Barcelona still plagued by financial woes that have caused them registration problems in LaLiga in recent years, it is perhaps a shock that they might be lining up a move for one of the highest-paid players in the game, according to Mundo Deportivo. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/26/13/82906271-13240245-image-m-55_1711460512073.jpgBarca are currently led by Robert Lewandowski, the Polish legend continuing to fire in the goals as he approaches his 36th birthday at the end of the season. Yet the striker's contract runs up at the end of 2024-25, meaning that the Blaugrana will need to reinforce at No 9, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Haaland is the club's dream replacement. Should Barca move for Haaland and Kylian Mbappe move as expected to Real Madrid, it would set up a fantastic duel between the two players widely regarded to dominate football in the next decade. The financial aspect of the move is thought to be aided by the fact that the club will soon be moving back into their own stadium, with the Spotify Camp Nou set to be completed before 2025-26. There are however hopes that the ground could in fact be completed as early as this year, with the club opening their doors to a restricted capacity for Barcelona to move back home to their iconic ground. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/26/12/82065917-13240245-The_stadium_s_capacity_will_increase_to_105_000_when_Barcelona_s-a-32_1711457374371.jpgThe Camp Nou's capacity will increase to 105,000 when Barcelona's iconic home is complete

Wednesday 3rd April 2024 - Premier League - Man City v Aston Villa - 8.15pmichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/3/19869817-ba06-44e6-b899-93c7dfe0f321.jpgSo, Erling Haaland..."The best striker in the world" or "like a League Two player"? Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola defended his Norwegian striker following former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane's criticism after Sunday's 0-0 draw with Arsenal. Keane said Haaland's "general play" is "so poor" and "almost like a League Two player". But Guardiola wasn't having any of it. "I don't agree with him, absolutely not," said the Spanish manager when asked about Keane's comments. Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions last season and has 29 this term - 18 in the Premier League, meaning he leads the challenge for the league's Golden Boot. "He's the best striker in the world," added Guardiola of the 23-year-old Norwegian. What do you think? Thumbs up to agree with Guardiola, thumbs down if you're with Keane. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/3/4a998cdd-3471-4ce1-83b8-679575d63110.jpgChris Sutton - Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club podcastI thought that the criticism of Erling Haaland, particularly the "League Two standard" stuff [from Roy Keane on Sky Sports] was total nonsense. It really was. Everybody has sung the praises of William Saliba and Gabriel all season, and quite rightly so. When Stefan Ortega was clipping the ball into Haaland, those two are the best defenders at working off a forward's touch, and being clever with their defending to win the ball back. Could he have been a bit stronger? Could he have been cuter? Could his brain have worked better to find a solution? Of course. But also at times you come up against brilliant defenders. To pan him and degrade him and suggest he is a lower league standard player is total, total nonsense, and very unfair. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/3/8bc2005f-a23d-4b79-9b12-cd7194473b60.jpgPaul Robinson - Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 LiveThere has been a lot made out of Roy Keane's comments in the media since Sunday but there is a lot more to Erling Haaland than suggesting the Premier League is sussing him out. It is too simple to say that. Of course the fact he has failed to score in 12 of his last 17 for club and country and his last 5 for Manchester City, people are going to scrutinise him. Although I'm not sure you can say that still scoring ten goals in that time is a 'barren' spell.

Saturday 20th April 2024 - The FA Cup - Semi-Final - Manchester City v Chelsea
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9983/production/_133199293_gettyimages-2149239849.jpg Haaland has scored 31 goals this season, with five in the FA CupManchester City striker Erling Haaland is a doubt for his side's FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Saturday. Haaland was substituted late on during Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final defeat on penalties by Real Madrid. City boss Pep Guardiola said after the game that the 23-year-old had asked to be taken off. "We will see," said the Spaniard on Haaland's availability to face fellow Premier League side Chelsea at Wembley. "It was a tough game, a lot of action, high intensity for both sides. Erling felt something, a muscular issue. That's why he told me he could not continue. "The [doctor] said he had a little bit of niggles, a little problem, we will see how his evolution is in the next hours."

We keep going!" On what gives him motivation: “I’ve got a not too bad manager who pushes me and look at the players around me. Without them it would not be possible. Look ahead, look to next one - four finals left for season. We’re going to go for it and focus on Fulham." On his second goal: "That’s a beautiful goal. My father is going to be happy with that one. A nice celebration, I enjoyed that one. I’m scoring more headers, I try to develop and keep going." On his fourth goal: “A beautiful goal. I don’t know what more I can say. Great goal, great ball from Phil [Foden].” On whether Pep Guardiola is thinking about goal difference: “No. First of all it’s about winning the games but of course you want to have the best possible goal difference. Lets not think about that. Think about Fulham.” Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to BBC's Match of the Day: "Thank you mate. Important and focus on the next one." Were you frustrated to come off after scoring four?: "It was nothing about that. I was happy and Julian scored so that was really nice." Would you rather be playing before Arsenal on a weekend or after?: "It's a bit of a difficult question. I don't care, we just have to win our games and now, relax tonight and focus on Fulham." On scoring 201 goals in five seasons of club football since leaving Molde: "Yeah it's not bad, that and as I have been saying many times before, it would not be possible without all of my teammates in Dortmund, in Salzburg and [here], look today, it was because of them." On former RB Salzburg teammate Hwang Hee-Chan scoring: "Hee-Chan scored, always good to see him. He's a fantastic guy. He also gave me a couple of assists as well, so a great guy."

'I don't care about that man' - Haaland responds to Keane criticism..by Joe Rindl, BBC Sport journalisti.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/04/20/84461159-0-image-a-22_1714850547659.jpgWhen Roy Keane called Erling Haaland "almost League Two level" after Manchester City drew 0-0 with Arsenal, the forward had not scored in five matches and City had failed to score in a Premier League game at Etihad Stadium for the first time since October 2021. The Premier League title remained out of City's grasp as then leaders Liverpool sat two points clear of Arsenal and three ahead of the Blues. But since that disappointing result on 31st March, Pep Guardiola's side have won six league matches on the bounce and are now one point behind frontrunners Arsenal, having played one game less. And Haaland, 23, has performed a starring role in the resurgence, scoring seven goals in four league matches, including four against Wolves in a 5-1 win on Saturday. The Norwegian is not only responding brilliantly on the pitch, he is composed off it too. Asked about Keane's comments after his side's win at Wolves, he told Viaplay: "I don't really care that much about that man, so that's all right." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/04/20/84461173-0-image-a-23_1714850600084.jpgKeane has history with the Haaland family, having injured Erling's father Alf-Inge with a poor tackle in a Manchester derby in 2001. Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports after the draw against Arsenal, Keane said of Haaland: "The levels of his general play is so poor, and not just today. His general play for such a player, it is so poor, I think he has to improve that, he's almost like a League Two player." Ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards backed up Keane, adding Haaland's link-up play was "non-existent" against the Gunners. But against Wolves on Saturday Richards sang Haaland's praises. "Since he came back from injury, there’s a new-found confidence," he told Sky Sports. "His all-round general play is the thing I’m most impressed with. He is still a young player, he will improve." Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp agreed, saying Haaland was "a phenomenon" and "an animal in front of goal". "He wants to destroy teams," he added. "The guy is just built completely differently." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/04/22/84464073-13383365-image-a-7_1714857639482.jpgHaaland's first and third goals were composed penalties, coming either side of a thunderous headed finish at the back post. He had his hat-trick wrapped up before the half-time whistle - his sixth in just his 63rd match in the league. And he netted a deserved fourth in the 54th minute after he raced towards goal, cut inside on to his left foot and curled a thunderous shot into the far corner. The Norwegian now has 25 Premier League goals for the season and is five clear of Alexander Isak and Cole Palmer in the Golden Boot standings. Total Career Stats: Age 23, Played 371, Goals 300, Clubs: Byrne, Molde, Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. International levels for Norway: U15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and Norway...

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a bit horrible. A lot of emotions, we were nervous, which is normal for these types of games, but we won. That was the goal, I don't care how we won. We won. Now on to the next one." On worrying about the first goal being offside: "Yeah a little bit. I saw Kev was on the line and was a bit scared it was offside. You never know. But that is why we have VAR, they checked it and it was a goal so it was fantastic." On the pressure penalty at the end: "I was really nervous, scared of course, but also a bit excited. It was all about getting the ball into the back of the net. That's what I did, so happy, relaxed, focus on the next one." On the routine ahead of Sunday: "Relax. Don't think too much. Relax with our families and train together. Keep on doing what we have been doing now for 37 games straight, try not to think too much, focus and have fun." Is this year's title race more exciting?: "I don't think about this. I don't think about last season now. Relax, don't think and just focus on the next game."

Haaland has won successive Premier League titles since moving to Manchester in a £51million deal from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 and still has three years remaining on his contract. But a clause in his agreement with City, allowing the Norwegian striker to move to any club outside England willing to pay £175million, kicked in this summer. And the buy-out fee will now drop in each of the remaining three seasons left on his deal. City are already preparing for life without manager Pep Guardiola in the event that the Catalan decides not to sign a contract extension and brings an end to his trophy-laden nine-year reign when his current deal runs out next summer. i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk/incoming/article32746900.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/2_JS332346654.jpgCity have won six of the last seven Premier League titles and have just become the first English club to be crowned champions in four successive seasons. Guardiola, who has also lifted the Champions League, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup, hints before last week’s FA Cup Final that his own motivation could be an issue when he decides whether to take his time in East Manchester to a decade and beyond. City will be prepared for the day he does decide to quit. But they are still hoping that the prospect of rebuilding City’s squad one more time will be enough to keep the manager happy. Securing Haaland’s future is also a priority over the coming months. The 23-year-old scored 52 goals in his debut season as City became only the second club to win a Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup Treble. And although he suffered injuries and a dip in form as the Blues retained the title, he still claimed another Golden Boot by scoring 27 times in the league and 38 in all competitions. Haaland admitted in March that “you never know what the future will bring” when he was asked about where his career could take him. He has never hidden his ambition to experience La Liga - and both Real Madrid and Barcelona are long-term admirers. But City’s hopes of persuading him to sign an extension - and also renegotiate his buy-out clause - have been boosted by Madrid’s capture of French superstar Kylian Mbappe and brilliant Brazilian teenage sensation Endrick. And Barcelona’s financial problems make it impossible for them to pay the necessary transfer fee and improve on Haaland’s current £400,000-a-week wages. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article32042666.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/1_Manchester-City-v-Burnley-FC-Premier-League.jpg
