Sonia Bompastor 'really likes' pressure of succeeding Emma Hayes..

New Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor says she "really likes the pressure" of succeeding Emma Hayes and "wants to build from her legacy".

Hayes left the Blues at the end of last season to take charge of the United States, after winning her fifth successive Women's Super League title and her seventh overall.

Former Lyon boss Bompastor, 44, has won a string of domestic and European honours and says she wants to continue Chelsea's success.

Speaking in her first news conference since taking the reins, Bompastor said: "I just feel a lucky manager to have this opportunity to build from Emma and have this opportunity to show who I am as a manager but also as a person."

Hayes won 14 major honours during her 12 years in charge of Chelsea.

The Frenchwoman said she hopes to take Chelsea one step further and guide the club to their first Women's Champions League title.

"I already told everyone that we are here to win every single title, every single game, so this is why I came," she said.

Bompastor said that every trophy is "very important" for the club, but called the Champions League the "special one".

Chelsea were beaten by Barcelona in the 2020-21 final and have also been knocked out by the Spanish giants in each of the past two seasons.

Bompastor comes to the club having been European champion twice as a player and once as a manager with Lyon.

"When I had the meeting with the sporting directors I said this is something really special to win the Champions League," said Bompastor.

"I think we have all the quality at this club to have this trophy at home."

She believes Chelsea have a squad capable of achieving European success - and the club have been active in the market this summer, recruiting the likes of England defender Lucy Bronze from Barcelona and France forward Sandy Baltimore from Paris St-Germain.

But she said the Blues are "still looking" at bringing in other players before the transfer window ends on 13 September.

Bompastor added: "You now how competitive the league is here, maybe one of the most competitive in the world, so it's so difficult for an English team to perform in every game.

"I'll make sure we have the good numbers and the quality to perform in every game."

Bompastor will begin her Chelsea tenure at home to Aston Villa on 20 September.

Her first WSL match at Stamford Bridge will be against league rivals Manchester City across the weekend of 15-17 November.

"I can't wait to be at that point because the atmosphere in this stadium is so special. It's one of the most famous in Europe with all the history," said Bompastor.

"I had the chance to play the Champions League final here as a player but I didn't have a great experience here as a manager, though I could feel the atmosphere.

"Now, as Chelsea manager, to have the fans with us is really special. You always want to enjoy it with them. Football is something we are all passionate about."

Liverpool sign Wales defender Gemma Evans from Man Utd..by Wilf Frith

Liverpool have completed the signing of experienced defender Gemma Evans following her departure from Manchester United.

The centre-back had moved to United following spells at Reading and Bristol City, working alongside Liverpool manager Matt Beard at the latter.

Evans has made more than 100 Barclays Women’s Super League appearances and has over a half-century of caps for Wales.

“It’s a massive move for me,” Evans told Liverpoolfc.com. “Last season was a difficult year for me as I had to learn to be a teammate in a different way on the field.

“So it’s so exciting to be at Liverpool and working with Matt again, and I’m proper looking forward to getting ready to go.”

Matt Beard said: “I’m delighted to bring Gemma in. She is a talented player, has got great experience playing in the WSL and international football with Wales, so with her personality as well coming in I think it’s a great fit for us.

“Gemma is versatile and can also play left-back. Last season we lost Taylor [Hinds] for a few months and Jas also had a difficult end to the season with injuries and we looked at it and felt it was something we needed to address.”

Bristol City defender Naomi Layzell has joined Man City..

Manchester City have signed England youth international defender Naomi Layzell from Bristol City on a four-year contract.

The 20-year-old was an integral part of Bristol City’s promotion to the WSL in 2022-23 season, playing 20 of their 22 matches in which they conceded just 12 goals.

A 5’9” centre-back, Layzell has been capped by England from U-15 level through to the Under-23s.

Layzell said: “It’s quite surreal to be honest. You always want to play for the top teams as a young player and I think joining City is an exciting opportunity for me.”

“Playing alongside and against top elite professionals in the world is just a brilliant opportunity and a really hard one to turn down. I grew so much as a person at Bristol City, but I felt it was time for me to find a new challenge. I’m really excited to get involved.”

Head Coach Gareth Taylor said: “We‘re pleased to add Naomi to the team for next season. She’s a quality defender and we’re looking forward to helping her grow and develop as a player.”

She will wear the number three shirt for the upcoming Women’s Super League campaign.

West Ham United Women re-sign Shelina Zadorsky on permanent deal from Tottenham

West Ham United have signed Canadian international centurion Shelina Zadorsky following the expiration of her contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

She made ten appearances on loan to the Hammers last season, playing 66 times for Spurs after joining them from Orlando Pride.

Zadorsky told whufc.com: “I’m delighted to be back at West Ham United on a permanent basis.

“Rehanne [Skinner] and I have built a great relationship over the years, and I think she knows how to get the best out of me. I always demand high standards of myself, and I really want to be that rock at the back for the team.”

Manager Skinner commented: “I am delighted to extend Shelina’s time at West Ham, following a very successful loan spell during the second half of last season.

“Shelina has a wealth of experience across the domestic and international game, having made over 100 appearances for Canada and represented her country at a third Olympic Games in Paris this summer, which is a remarkable feat for any player.

“Shelina has a fantastic attitude and a desire to win that carries through the team. She is versatile across the left-hand side of the backline and her technical ability on the ball is a real strength to her game. I have no doubt Shelina will continue to help us evolve our style of play and we all look forward to having her back in the group as a permanent Hammer.”

Brighton sign midfielder Jelena Cankovic from Chelsea..

Brighton have signed attacking midfielder Jelena Cankovic from Chelsea.

The Serbia international joined the Blues from Swedish side FC Rosengard in 2022 and made 38 appearances in her time in west London.

Cankovic, 29, leaves Chelsea having won the Women's Super League twice and the FA Cup once.

The length of her Brighton contract has not been disclosed.

Albion boss Dario Vidosic said: "We're delighted to bring a player of Jelena's pedigree and experience to the club.

"She has already achieved so much in her career but is ready for a new chapter and excited by this challenge.

"Her experience and knowledge will be important in helping our squad grow and I am looking forward to working with her."

West Ham United Women sign Colombian international Manuela Paví..by Wilf Frith

West Ham United have signed Colombia international forward Manuela Paví from Deportivo Cali on a three-year contract.

The 23-year-old played all four of her country’s matches at the 2024 Paris Olympics, scoring against France.

She helped Deportivo Cali to two Colombian titles, the second this year when Paví scored two goals in the final match to help seal the championship.

Pavi told West Ham TV: “It’s a dream come true for me to join West Ham United – I’m very grateful to be here.

“When my agent told me there was a possibility to join West Ham, I felt super excited because I come from a place in Colombia that is very similar to east London – where the people are from humble beginnings and are working class. That is why I know I was born to be a Hammer. I will fight for this club and give my everything for the famous Claret and Blue.

“The fans can expect to have an extension of themselves on the pitch. I am like them, and I will fight for them and for my teammates to have a fantastic season together.”

Manager Rehanne Skinner told whufc.com: “We are delighted to bring a player of Manuela’s quality to the club.

“Manuela is an exciting, energetic forward who has the ability to unlock defences from anywhere across the front line. Her performances for her previous club and Colombia have been outstanding, most notably her superb impact at this summer’s Olympic Games.

Leicester City sign winger Shana Chossenotte from Reims..

Leicester have signed France youth international winger Shana Chossenotte from Reims.

The 19-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Women's Super League side.

Chossenotte made 37 appearances for Reims after making her debut during the 2021-21 season.

“I am very happy to have signed for Leicester and I can’t wait to get started on the pitch with the team," said Chossenotte, who has been capped by France from under-17 to under-20 level.

“It’s always been an aim to play in this league as it is one of the best. I’m sure it’s a dream for every professional footballer to play in this league.

"Leicester seemed right for me because I can relate to the work they’re doing here."

Chossenotte played at Reims under Amandine Miquel, who was appointed Leicester manager on 15th July.

She is Leicester's sixth signing of the summer after the arrivals of former Reims team-mate Noemie Mouchon, Tottenham defender Asmita Ale, Jamaica midfielder Chantelle Swaby, Belgium defender Sari Kees and Manchester City midfielder Ruby Mace.

Miquel's side, who finished 10th in the WSL last season, begin the new campaign at Liverpool on 22nd September.
