Arsenal sign Sweden striker Rosa Kafaji..by Wilf Frithshekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/UEFA-Womens-Champions-League-Quarter-Final-BK-Hacken-v-Paris-Saint-Germain-Hisingen-Arena.jpgArsenal have confirmed the signing of Swedish international forward Rosa Kafaji from BK Häcken on a long-term contract. She made 61 appearances and score 28 goals during her time at Häcken, finished as their top scorer last season including four goals in a Champions League run to the quarter-finals. The first of her nine caps for Sweden came from the bench against Italy in the Nations League in October 2023. Kafaji told “It feels amazing to join this club – I’m so happy to be here. I had a very good feeling after speaking to Jonas [Eidevall] and Clare [Wheatley] and it just feels right to be at Arsenal. I’m hungry to keep growing and I know this is the right place for me to do that and compete for the biggest trophies.” Head Coach Jonas Eidevall said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Rosa to the club. She’s one of the most exciting young talents in the world and I’ve been a keen admirer of her game for a number of years. She plays with a fearlessness beyond her age and I know she has the hunger and mentality it takes to realise her potential here with Arsenal.”

Sonia Bompastor 'really likes' pressure of succeeding Emma Hayes..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/04/10/20/83478873-13294429-image-a-9_1712778938038.jpgNew Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor says she "really likes the pressure" of succeeding Emma Hayes and "wants to build from her legacy". Hayes left the Blues at the end of last season to take charge of the United States, after winning her fifth successive Women's Super League title and her seventh overall. Former Lyon boss Bompastor, 44, has won a string of domestic and European honours and says she wants to continue Chelsea's success. Speaking in her first news conference since taking the reins, Bompastor said: "I just feel a lucky manager to have this opportunity to build from Emma and have this opportunity to show who I am as a manager but also as a person." Hayes won 14 major honours during her 12 years in charge of Chelsea. The Frenchwoman said she hopes to take Chelsea one step further and guide the club to their first Women's Champions League title. "I already told everyone that we are here to win every single title, every single game, so this is why I came," she said. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/04/10/21/81262733-13294429-Bompastor_has_won_the_Women_s_Champions_League_as_both_a_player_-a-10_1712779508514.jpgBompastor said that every trophy is "very important" for the club, but called the Champions League the "special one". Chelsea were beaten by Barcelona in the 2020-21 final and have also been knocked out by the Spanish giants in each of the past two seasons. Bompastor comes to the club having been European champion twice as a player and once as a manager with Lyon. "When I had the meeting with the sporting directors I said this is something really special to win the Champions League," said Bompastor. "I think we have all the quality at this club to have this trophy at home." She believes Chelsea have a squad capable of achieving European success - and the club have been active in the market this summer, recruiting the likes of England defender Lucy Bronze from Barcelona and France forward Sandy Baltimore from Paris St-Germain. But she said the Blues are "still looking" at bringing in other players before the transfer window ends on 13 September. Bompastor added: "You now how competitive the league is here, maybe one of the most competitive in the world, so it's so difficult for an English team to perform in every game. "I'll make sure we have the good numbers and the quality to perform in every game." Bompastor will begin her Chelsea tenure at home to Aston Villa on 20 September. Her first WSL match at Stamford Bridge will be against league rivals Manchester City across the weekend of 15-17 November. "I can't wait to be at that point because the atmosphere in this stadium is so special. It's one of the most famous in Europe with all the history," said Bompastor. "I had the chance to play the Champions League final here as a player but I didn't have a great experience here as a manager, though I could feel the atmosphere. "Now, as Chelsea manager, to have the fans with us is really special. You always want to enjoy it with them. Football is something we are all passionate about."

BBC and ITV agree broadcast deal for the Women's Euro 2025..shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/resized-EURO-2025-trophy-Daniela-Porcelli.jpgBBC Sport and ITV have agreed a deal to broadcast next year's Women's European Championship. Every match of the tournament, which begins 2 July, will be shown in the UK on either the BBC or ITV, with the final on 27 July available on both channels. Alongside live TV coverage and highlights across the BBC and iPlayer, radio commentary will also be available on BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Sports Extra. England head to Switzerland as defending champions after securing qualification for Euro 2025 with a 0-0 draw against Sweden in July. The Lionesses' win over Germany in the final of Euro 2022 was watched by more than 17m viewers on BBC One. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will seek to qualify via the play-offs, which resume in October. Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said the BBC was "committed to bringing the nation together for the biggest sporting moments". He added: "We're excited that we can bring another major tournament to audiences next summer across the BBC." Meanwhile, ITV director of sport Niall Sloane said the broadcaster was aiming to build on the success of its Women's World Cup coverage last year.

Liverpool sign Linkoping forward Cornelia Kapocs..anfieldindex.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/imago1045950342h-696x464.jpgLiverpool have signed Cornelia Kapocs on a permanent deal from Linkoping for whom she scored 18 goals last season. She spent four years with Linkoping, playing through the middle as well as out wide, also gaining Champions League experience with the Swedish side. “I’m very happy and very proud to be here,” Kapocs told Liverpoolfc.com. “I like the way the team plays and I also feel that I can grow and develop here as a player and as a person, so this is the right place to take the next step in my career.” Manager Matt Beard said: “I’m really excited to bring Cornelia in. She is very different to what we’ve got up front – she can play wide and can play down the middle. “Her goalscoring record is fantastic, she got 18 goals last season, her movement is great and she’s a very intelligent player. So I think the fans can be excited at what she can bring to the table and we are excited to have her here. “We need to progress the team, create that competition. And to have all these players now who can play in the frontline, it’s a headache for me but it’s also fantastic for me.” Their league campaign begins on 22nd September when they host Leicester. shekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Swedish-League-Cup-Linkoping-FC-v-Vittsjo-GIK-Kopparvallen.jpg

Liverpool sign Wales defender Gemma Evans from Man Utd..by Wilf Frithshekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/SPP_536285.jpgLiverpool have completed the signing of experienced defender Gemma Evans following her departure from Manchester United. The centre-back had moved to United following spells at Reading and Bristol City, working alongside Liverpool manager Matt Beard at the latter. Evans has made more than 100 Barclays Women’s Super League appearances and has over a half-century of caps for Wales. “It’s a massive move for me,” Evans told Liverpoolfc.com. “Last season was a difficult year for me as I had to learn to be a teammate in a different way on the field. “So it’s so exciting to be at Liverpool and working with Matt again, and I’m proper looking forward to getting ready to go.” Matt Beard said: “I’m delighted to bring Gemma in. She is a talented player, has got great experience playing in the WSL and international football with Wales, so with her personality as well coming in I think it’s a great fit for us. “Gemma is versatile and can also play left-back. Last season we lost Taylor [Hinds] for a few months and Jas also had a difficult end to the season with injuries and we looked at it and felt it was something we needed to address.”

Tottenham sign Australia's Clare Hunt on three-year deal..by Emma Sanders, Senior Women's Football Reportershekicks.net/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Olympic-Games-Paris-2024-Football-Women-Germany-v-Australia-Stade-de-Marseille.jpgTottenham have signed Australia international Clare Hunt from Paris St-Germain on a three-year deal until 2027. Hunt was contracted at PSG until 2026, though neither club have disclosed whether a fee has been paid. The 25-year-old had been a long-standing target for Tottenham, who explored signing the centre-back before she moved to PSG last year. Spurs manager Robert Vilahamn also went to the Olympics last month to watch Hunt in Australia’s match against the USA. Hunt, who has made 20 appearances for the Matildas, is the club's second signing of the summer. She made 13 appearances in her first season with PSG before joining up with the Australia squad in July for the Paris Games, playing all three matches as they went out at the group stage. Meanwhile, Czech Republic goalkeeper Barbora Votikova has left Tottenham to join Slavia Prague. The 27-year-old joined Spurs in August 2023 after her PSG contract expired and made 11 appearances in all competitions last season.

I grew so much as a person at Bristol City, but I felt it was time for me to find a new challenge. She’s a quality defender and we’re looking forward to helping her grow and develop as a player.” She will wear the number three shirt for the upcoming Women’s Super League campaign.

To have been voted the player of the year means a lot.” Shaw, a first-time winner of the PFA award, had already been named the WSL player of the year for 2023-24. She was also named player of the year at the Women's Football Awards. West Ham United Women sign Colombian international Manuela Paví..by Wilf Frithcdn.whufc.com/sites/default/files/2024-08/cropped-3d1a2901-min_0.jpgWest Ham United have signed Colombia international forward Manuela Paví from Deportivo Cali on a three-year contract. The 23-year-old played all four of her country’s matches at the 2024 Paris Olympics, scoring against France. She helped Deportivo Cali to two Colombian titles, the second this year when Paví scored two goals in the final match to help seal the championship. Pavi told West Ham TV: “It’s a dream come true for me to join West Ham United – I’m very grateful to be here. “When my agent told me there was a possibility to join West Ham, I felt super excited because I come from a place in Colombia that is very similar to east London – where the people are from humble beginnings and are working class. That is why I know I was born to be a Hammer. I will fight for this club and give my everything for the famous Claret and Blue. “The fans can expect to have an extension of themselves on the pitch. I am like them, and I will fight for them and for my teammates to have a fantastic season together.” Manager Rehanne Skinner told whufc.com: “We are delighted to bring a player of Manuela’s quality to the club. “Manuela is an exciting, energetic forward who has the ability to unlock defences from anywhere across the front line. Her performances for her previous club and Colombia have been outstanding, most notably her superb impact at this summer’s Olympic Games. “Manuela epitomises everything about our team. She has the character that we show week in, week out. She plays with passion, determination, works hard in and out of possession and with her quality, we have no doubt that she will thrive in the Women’s Super League.”

Bristol City manager Lauren Smith leaves ahead of new season..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/26/18/88947747-13781327-image-a-35_1724692902156.jpgBristol City manager Lauren Smith has resigned just 12 days before the Women's Championship season begins. BBC Sport understands Smith is currently in advanced talks to take on a role elsewhere. Former Wales assistant manager Smith has been in charge of the Robins since 2021 and guided the club to their first ever league title as they won promotion to the Women's Super League in 2023, before their subsequent relegation after one season in the top flight. In August 2023, she signed a three-year deal that would keep her at the club until 2026. "It is with a very heavy heart that I leave the club, a club that means so much to me, but the time is right for me to explore new opportunities," Smith said. "I want to thank all the staff and players that I have worked with over the years for their support and hard work on and off the pitch. "I will always keep a keen eye on how City are doing and wish everyone well for the coming season." The Championship season gets under way on 8th September, with Bristol City away to Southampton in their opening game. Loren Dykes will take on the role of interim head coach as the club search for an immediate replacement. Gavin Marshall, chair of Bristol City Women, said: "It is hard to put into words how much Lauren has given to Bristol City over the years. "I thank her for her tireless hard work and commitment to the development of City Women. We are sad to see her go." Smith had a short spell as assistant coach for Tottenham Hotspur Women in 2021, between her roles at Wales and Bristol. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/26/18/88947749-13781327-image-a-38_1724692909454.jpg
