Lee Carsley was appointed England Under-21s manager in July 2021Lee Carsley is set for talks with the Football Association about his future after leading England Under-21s to European Championship success. The Young Lions won the tournament in Georgia for the first time in 39 years with a 1-0 victory over Spain. Manager Carsley was appointed in July 2021 and is believed to be undecided about whether to carry on in the role. The 49-year-old will meet FA technical director John McDermott once he returns from holiday to discuss his plans. Carsley is on a rolling one-year contract and is understood to have been approached by clubs during his tenure as under-21s manager. Ukraine must play their home games in other countries because their homeland has been invaded by Russia. The FA confirmed he has withdrawn after being assessed by England's medical team and would not be replaced in the squad, which now has 25 players. England face Australia on 13th October, before taking on Italy in a European Championship qualifier four days later. "No, he will not make it," said Gunners boss Arteta after Sunday's game. "He has not trained for a single session." While he would not disclose the likely length of Saka's spell on the sidelines, Arteta added: "He is not available to play football at the moment." England manager Gareth Southgate said last Thursday he would take no risks with Saka, despite England being able to qualify for next summer's European Championship during this international break. "We've got that responsibility of qualifying for the country, but I've been a player. I've never ever taken a risk on a player's physical wellbeing, and nor would I," said Southgate. "They [Premier League clubs] have trust in us that we make decisions that are right for the long term whenever we can."
