Not a stabbing: Iain Packer has been ordered to serve at least 36 years in jail for the murder of 27-year-old Emma Caldwell in April 2005.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/12518/production/_132723057_emmalp.jpgJudge Lord Beckett tells the 51-year-old that his actions have had “terrible and enduring consequences” for his victims. Packer was found guilty of a total of 33 charges of physical and sexual violence against 22 women. Emma's body was found in a remote part of South Lanarkshire five weeks after she disappeared. The case was one of Scotland's most high-profile unsolved murders until a BBC Scotland investigation helped pave the way for Packer's arrest. Police apologised for how the original inquiry was handled, admitting that Emma, her family and many other victims were let down. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/26/50b8b6cd-73bb-4184-9b9a-919f0895efac.jpgWilliam and Margaret Caldwell searched for their daughter for weeks after she was reported missingEmma Caldwell had been living in a hostel in Glasgow at the time she went missing. She had left home after becoming addicted to heroin and began working as a prostitute to fund her habit. During the trial, Emma's mother Margaret Caldwell said she last saw her youngest daughter when she dropped her off at the hostel on Sunday 3 April 2005. Mrs Caldwell said that she and her late husband, William, searched for Emma for weeks after she went missing. "We spent hours and hours every day looking for her. He was interviewed twice by Sam Poling, whose documentary Who Killed Emma? was broadcast the following year. One of Packer's former partners told the murder trial that he was "white as a sheet" after the second interview. "You could see something had gone badly wrong. It was as if it was all closing in on him," she said. Just hours after the documentary was broadcast, she contacted police and told them she had been stalked and attacked by Packer. He was arrested and jailed for two years in February 2020 after pleading guilty. Then, two years later in February 2022, Packer was finally arrested and charged with Emma's murder. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/2/28/0ca036df-b067-42b5-bee6-14acc8da0cbe.jpgPacker was interviewed by police in February 2022

Still a terrible story and I get the impression that the death of a drug addict prostitute isnt the major priority of the Police, the girl was terribly vulnerable to some maniac but she had to do it to feed her habit, this is why I think that drug dealers and smugglers should receive draconian punishments, maybe we should look at Singapore.

Marcus Osborne will never leave prison after his sentencing at Leeds today. Killed (tortured and disfigured) his ex girlfriend and her partner and raped another woman afterwards. Domestic abuser Marcus Osborne stabbed his former lover 99 times, murdered her new partner after cutting off his genitals and raped another woman at knifepoint. Osborne, 35, was today given a whole life order at Leeds Crown Court for the murder of his ex-partner Katie Higton and her new boyfriend Steven Harnett. The 'monstrous' offender, who had a shocking history of domestic violence murdered the pair shortly after being arrested for threatening to kill them and released on bail just two days earlier, a court heard yesterday. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/01/13/81878189-13145435-Katie_Higton_27_was_killed_after_returning_home_from_a_date_with-a-54_1709299229730.jpgKatie Higton, 27, was killed after returning home from a date with her new boyfriendi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/01/13/81878193-13145435-Steven_Harnett_25_was_also_killed_by_Marcus_Osborne_on_May_15_la-a-55_1709299229732.jpgSteven Harnett, 25, was also killed by Marcus Osborne on May 15th last yearMiss Higton, 27, and launched a 'ferocious and merciless' attack - brutally stabbing her to death when she walked in the door after a night out with Mr Harnett. He then messaged Mr Harnett, 25, on mental health nurse Miss Higton's phone and 'lured' him to her house in Huddersfield to his death, Leeds Crown Court was told. Osborne also attacked Mr Harnett when he walked through the door and stabbed him to death. He gruesomely cut off the victim's penis while he was still alive, prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford revealed. Mr Sandiford said: 'The defendant committed a premeditated and brutal double murder motivated by sexual jealousy, a desire to exercise control over Katie Higton, an unwillingness to accept her decision to leave him and her freedom to form a relationship with another man.' Miss Higton was stabbed 99 times in the frenzied assault while Mr Harnett received 24 knife wounds. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/01/13/81878187-13145435-Osborne_pictured_had_a_shocking_history_of_domestic_violence_bef-a-57_1709299229734.jpgOsborne, had a shocking history of domestic violence before the two killings

Bristol in the national news today, there is an anti knife/stabbing campaign,an appalling list of knife crime in Bristol.
An idea would be when sentencing someone for knife crime the sentence starts with 10 years imprisonment for carrying a knife ! then additional years for the severity of the crime...

Three teenage thugs are convicted of stabbing 16-year-old boy to death with a 'zombie knife' at a birthday party..By Olivia Christie.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/07/17/82174203-13169839-image-m-7_1709833027257.jpgMikey Roynon (above), from Bristol, was knifed in the back of the neck at a house on Eastfield Avenue, Bath on June 10th last year. The victim, who had just finished his GCSEs, died at the scene at around 11pm. The trio, who are all 16, took knives to a teenage girl's 16th birthday party. The event was crashed by 200 people after it was advertised on social media. One of the boys admitted stabbing Mikey but claimed he was acting in self defence. He said the victim had swung a knife towards his friends. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/07/17/82174213-13169839-image-m-6_1709833020251.jpgThe three boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, decided not to give evidence in their defence. Prosecutors argued that the two friends were also armed with knives and therefore were jointly responsible for the attack on Mikey. All three boys will be sentenced on May 3rd at Bristol Crown Court. He had been due to start a full time job there this week. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/07/17/72163539-13169839-Police_work_in_Eastfield_Avenue_Bath_where_the_16_year_old_was_f-a-8_1709833076914.jpgPolice at the scene on Eastfield Avenue, Bath, where the 16-year-old was fatally stabbed on June 10th

Was just reading about the inquest into a 2020 stabbing rampage in Birmingham by yet another person with mental health issues who was being sought by the police and who should never have been released to kill and maim. The mother of the murdered lad said that the authorities have learned nothing and that the more recent Nottingham attacks should have been stopped if lessons had been learned.

Lessons are never learned. When it's classified as a 'mental health issue' the authorities can just wash their hands of the underlying issues and jog on. Nothing to see here.

Stabbing Attack in Illinois Leaves 4 Dead and 5 Injured..by Brie Stimsoni.abcnewsfe.com/a/c0a64f28-a9ff-4193-b5cd-d33618648935/Rockford-Illinois-abc-jm-240327_1711575764119_hpMain_16x9.jpgA stabbing spree in Illinois left four people dead and five injured, including one person in critical condition, officials said Wednesday. The attacks happened at multiple locations in Rockford, Illinois, west of Chicago. A suspect, who police said "attacked and stabbed" the victims, has been taken into custody. Police said he is a 22-year-old man, but he remains identified. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and one victim died later at a hospital. The victims include a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, police said in an update. Rockford Mayor Tom McNamera said he was "totally shaken" by the "senseless" violence of the attack. The attacks happened on Holmes Street, Winnetka Drive and Cleveland Avenue. One of the victims was a mail carrier who worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, officials confirm. The postal worker was reportedly run over by a vehicle and stabbed. UPDATE: Man held over stabbing in front of Beckenham train passengers..By Jess Warren, BBC News.
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed on a train in front of horrified passengers in south-east London.
The man suffered life-threatening injuries as the train travelled between Shortlands and Beckenham towards London Victoria on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, in his 20s, is in hospital in a critical but stable condition, British Transport Police (BTP) said.
The arrested male is 19 years old.
Supt Darren Malpas said: "We understand the concerns of the public following this incident and our detectives have been working tirelessly to investigate.
"I hope this arrest will bring some reassurance to those on the rail network."
He said "high-visibility patrols" would continue in the area and on the rail network, "as a visible reassurance to the travelling public".
BTP said it had also recovered a knife.
The force was first called to reports of two men seen in an altercation while entering a train at Shortlands station just before 4pm on Wednesday.
In footage of the incident, passengers in the carriage were heard gasping and shouting at a man, wearing a hooded jacket and a facemask, to stop.
In the hours after the incident, a local school initiated its "lockdown procedure", telling parents in an email it had brought all children at its after-school club inside as a precaution.
BTP said detectives continued to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
It urged anyone with information on the incident to contact police or call Crimestoppers anonymously.

DPD driver murder: Five guilty of Shrewsbury ambush killing..By Richard Price, BBC News, West Midlands.i2-prod.birminghammail.co.uk/incoming/article27580531.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_aurman-singh.jpgFour men who used an arsenal of weapons to beat a DPD delivery driver to death after ambushing him have been found guilty of murder. Aurman Singh 23 (above) who was tracked by the gang on his round, sustained serious head injuries when he was struck with an axe, in Shrewsbury. Witnesses described seeing him repeatedly struck with the weapon in the attack, last August. After a trial at Stafford Crown Court, four men were convicted of murder. A fifth man was cleared of murder but has been found guilty of manslaughter. During the 5-week trial, the court heard that between them the killers used a knife, an axe, a golf club, a wooden stave, a metal club, a hockey stick, a shovel and a cricket bat, during the fatal attack. In a statement issued after the verdict, Mr Singh's family said: "There are no words that could ever explain the impact this tragedy has had." Those guilty of murder are:Arshdeep Singh, 24 of Shaw Road, Tipton, Dudley; Jagdeep Singh, 23, of Goodrich Mews, Dudley; Shivdeep Singh, 27, of Greenfield Road, Smethwick; Manjot Singh, 24, also of Greenfield Road, Smethwick; Sukhmandeep Singh, 24, from Paynels, in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, was convicted of manslaughter. The 5 defendants are due to be sentenced at a later date. West Mercia Police said detectives had worked with a number of other forces during a "complex investigation" to bring the killers to justice. Prosecutors had told the court that a total of 8 men had travelled in two cars - a black Audi and a white Mercedes - to Berwick Avenue in Shrewsbury, where they lay in wait for Aurman Singh. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/08/23/17/74628725-12437869-It_s_emerged_detectives_are_still_hunting_two_suspects_who_are_o-a-3_1692808935787.jpgThe men had been directed by a 9th man - Sukhmandeep Singh - from the DPD depot in Stoke-on-Trent, where the victim was based, the jury was told. Four other men believed to have been involved in the fatal attack are still at large, police have said. The court heard that on the day he was murdered, Mr Singh and a colleague were due to make a delivery in Berwick Avenue. As they pulled up in their van, Mr Singh's colleague got out of the vehicle to deliver a package. Unknown to them however, the 8 men had been waiting for them in their cars down the road, before following the van when it arrived in Berwick Avenue. Seven of the eight men then jumped out, each of them concealing his face with a mask and carrying a weapon. Prosecutors said Mr Singh was chopped in the head three times with the axe, fracturing his skull with one blow penetrating his brain. He was also clubbed over the head with the golf club with such force, its head broke off and the shaft was left bent. Mr Singh was also attacked with the hockey stick and a wooden stave, before being stabbed in the back with such force, the knife cut through one of his ribs. It was an attack intended to kill him, prosecutors said, and he was left to die in a pool of blood on the side of the road. Witnesses told the court that after the attack finished, they had seen Mr Singh lying sprawled across the pavement. The Crown Prosecution Service said that throughout the trial, no evidence had been submitted to indicate a motive for the ferocious attack. "It isn't necessary in order to prove murder to prove a motive, to prove why it happened," prosecutors told the court early in the case. "And in this case the prosecution will not try to prove why it happened. We don't have evidence to prove why it happened."

BTP said detectives continued to appeal for witnesses to come forward. It urged anyone with information on the incident to contact police or call Crimestoppers anonymously. There was a CCTV picture of the attacker in a street near the station,he was wearing a mask pulled down so that you could see most of his face and he was openly carrying a long knife....will it be mental health issues ?...or someone who had been refused asylum and shouldnt have been here ?.....sure to be 'a very rare incident'....

Pouria Zeraati: TV station Iran International faced 'heavy threats' before stabbing..By Suzanne Leigh, BBC News.

The stabbing of an Iranian TV news channel presenter follows "heavy threats" made to the London-based station, a spokesman has said. Iran International presenter Pouria Zeraati, 36, was attacked by a group outside his home in Wimbledon, south London. On Saturday he posted a picture smiling from his hospital bed as he recovers. Counter-terrorism officers are leading the investigation, while the Iranian regime has denied any involvement. London-based Iran International aims to provide independent coverage of events in the country, but the regime in Tehran has declared it a terrorist organisation. Its spokesman Adam Baillie told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the station had been under "threat, heavy threats" for 18 months. He said the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has been targeting journalists and their families. "Along with our colleagues at BBC Persian, Iran International has been under threat, very heavy threats, for the last 18 months since the IRGC said 'we're coming for you', which they have consistently repeated," Mr Baillie said. The IRGC "get in touch through proxies, they don't leave a paper trail", he said. "No one's going to call up from the IRGC and go 'hey, it's us', but families have been taken in for questioning and threatened," Mr Baillie said. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/30/09/83058321-13254707-image-a-13_1711791451624.jpgPouria Zeraati works for the Iran International TV channel which is opposed to the Tehran regime
He added: "The scale of that has increased dramatically over the last few months and the scale and the type of questioning is more aggressive. 'Tell your relatives to stop working for this channel' and so on." The incident was "hugely frightening", he said, but Mr Zeraati was "doing very well" and recovering. Later on Saturday, Mr Zeraati posted a photo of himself in hospital on X, formerly Twitter, making a peace or V for victory sign. Mr Baillie was asked what he believed lay behind the attack. "We can't say," he said. "The fact that counter-terrorism is leading the investigation probably speaks for itself." The Metropolitan Police said the motivation for the attack on Friday was not yet clear, but Mr Zeraati's occupation coupled with recent threats towards UK-based Iranian journalists meant the investigation was being led by specialist counter-terrorism officers. Iran International presenter and former BBC World Service journalist Sima Sabet reported on X that police had urged her to leave her home following the attack on Mr Zeraati. She wrote that Revolutionary Guards had attempted to assassinate her and a colleague last year. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/30/09/83058201-13254707-image-m-15_1711791492207.jpgIran had previously planned to murder Sima Sabet, who also works for the dissident TV stationWhile she said she awaited the police investigation, she added: "This attack is an extremely troubling act for all journalists and opponents of the Islamic Republic in Britain and other Western countries." She praised the police response but said the UK government "has not taken sufficient, meaningful, decisive and effective political action". She added: "London is our home. Britain must be a safe place for journalists across all media."

Forensic investigators have spent the day outside the arena after the deadly attack in Northumberland Park in Haringey. Police and paramedics were called in the early hours of Sunday morning after a man was found with multiple stab injuries. CPR was administered but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have yet been made and Spurs' game with the strugglers will go ahead as planned. Police are thought to know who the victim is and are working on informing his next of kin. The force have told supporters that the north end of Worcester Avenue and the whole of Northumberland Park Road will remain closed today. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article32531055.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_AHP_CHP_25043.jpgFollowing the incident, Chief Inspector Stephen Johnston-Keay said: “Our thoughts are with the man who has tragically lost his life. I can assure local people that specialist detectives are investigating and will leave no stone unturned in working to establish what happened to him, and to identify and arrest those responsible. "I would like to thank local people for their patience and understanding while we go about this crucial work. If you have information that could help us, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please tell us. You will see officers on the cordons and on patrol and they will be ready to listen to you."
