Pakistan need 98 to win. 5 wickets in hand. Declaration may have been a tad early, but it certainly rescued the game from being a dull, sterile draw. Oh ye of little faith.

The players have all done well and kept their nerve when for a time they were looking underdogs. Pacemen deserve credit and Robinson being MOM was well deserved. Well done everyone connected with this match. Well d e England for goi g to Pakistan in the first place, it should earn some brownie points in World cricket. Esp when the Indian Cricket Board don’t allow Pakistani players the opportunity to play in the IPL. The boost this match will have given test match cricket generally will be great. Teams will now start to ask questions as to how they approach the longer form. I hope England’s approach survives the inevitable bad days and even bad results that will come with this approach.

With his health issues that he’s overcome and the stop start nature of Test Match cricket over the past 3/4 years he continues to be a reliable cog in this team. His place in the team is continually questioned ( even by some on here!!) yet he has seen off many of his challengers to the spinning spot in the team. Will Jacks has done well in this match and is a real talent, esp as an all rounder, and I expect him to challenge next but today I thought it was telling that JL was the go to man for Stokes. He can take some pride on his performance in what has been one of the great test matches. Can’t take that away from you Jack, good old Taunton boy.

He's only gone and blackfaced himself !

If I was a member of the royal family I’d have been thrown out years ago! 😉 And of course perhaps not on message but accurate I think. Don’t know who else has gone there, but I may have missed it.

Amazing test match, watched the last few hours on TV, and thought Pakistan would win at one stage. I was one of those that thought the declaration was a bit generous, but delighted to be proven wrong on that one. Every player played their part, and I am particularly enthused by how Brook seems to have taken to international cricket so quickly. I know he didn’t do much in the T20 World Cup,but scoring 150 in the first innings was some achievement, and 80:in the second innings, at such a scoring rate. It will be fascinating to see if the side’s batting momentum, and big scores, can be maintained for the rest of this series. England test match batting over the last few years, has too often produced scores of between 180 and 280, and a noticeable lack of 400-500 scored consistently. Would be fantastic if the likes of Brook, Duckett, and the returning Bairstow, can reduce the reliance on Root, but the real test will, of course, when Starc, Cummins etc turn up next summer!

Lunch on day 1.. England 180 for 5!!...............all out for 281 off 52 overs before tea!!! Quick scoring again! Let's see how Pakistan bat, but my feeling watching it is that England are probably 50 runs short of where they should have been. Can the England spinners now perform?

Latest at 7am is:England 281 all out, Duckett 63, Pope 60, Abrar 7-114 Pakistan 179-8, Babar 75, Shakeel 63, Leach 4-80, Root 2-21 Pakistan trail England by 102 runs with 2 wickets remaining ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/D0A8/production/_127961435_gettyimages-1448077851.jpg

Pakistan collapse, leaving England with a first innings lead of 79. Kamikaze start to the England second innings, suicidal run out from Crawley for 3, then T20 style slog saw Jacks bowled. 76-2, with a lead of 157. Duckett and Root ticking over nicely, Duckett has reached 50.

That is the problem now-a-days with so many forms of cricket being played, the players cannot seem to play a 5 day test match and 'test' themselves out. England are 97-3, Duckett 60no, Root 21, Brook 9no, Jacks 4 & Crawley 3 (like you said, why would an opener in a test go for that type of run, madness) England lead Pakistan by 178 runs with 7 wickets remaining ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/3EFE/production/_127962161_gettyimages-1448095016.jpg
