I`d love to go and watch the 1st Test in Rawalpindi. 5 days of cricket, some lovely December sun, and a city situated in a beautiful mountainous setting. It`s being beheaded, or chained to a radiator for five years in some religious nutcase`s basement, that tends to put me off a bit.

Yes it was great stuff. Poor Liam Dawson, he looked distraught after losing. He knew all he had to do was bat singles in to the spaces. I think he’s a good, solid one day player (and red ball player come to that, Hampshire certainly missed him last week v Kent. He could have made the difference in that match.) But I cant remember too many match winning performances and that would have been one of them. England should still have won but it’s turning out to be a great little series.
Well done England for going and well done the players. I would imagine that it’s very good preparation, insofar as they are close results, for the up-coming World Cup in what will be a fairly hostile place.

I felt the mistake was sending Woakes out to bat when they did. At that point England needed something like 10 an over, and although Woakes is a fine player in my opinion we should have sent Wiley to bat as he is able to smite the ball quite a fair bit. Woakes is more a 'classical' batsman. Woakes hit 10 off 12 balls. You get the feeling that Wiley (or Wood) might have scored more off those 12 balls. There were other mistakes of course

Pakistan v England - 6th T20 - 30th September - At the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore - 3.30pm.
Strauss review: Jos Buttler says proposed reductions could raise standards.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16ECC/production/_126900939_buttlertwo.jpgJos Buttler says a proposed reduction in County Championship and T20 Blast matches could raise standards and benefit England. The England white-ball captain said the process was not "simple", but fewer games would allow players to prepare and recover better. His comments come after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released its high performance review. The review suggests red-ball games could be cut from 14 to 10 in a season. The review, led by Sir Andrew Strauss, also suggests dedicated windows for the One-Day Cup, T20 Blast and the Hundred. It has been met with criticism from many first-class counties who are concerned about the lack of cricket they would be hosting as a result. When asked by The Sports Desk podcast if he thought reducing the number of County Championship and domestic T20 matches could help improve the England team, Buttler said: "Yeah, I do. "I do feel a reduction in games would allow players to prepare properly, recover properly and put a lot more emphasis on those games. "The pressure on those games would be a lot higher and I think the standard could potentially be higher for that. "I can see how that would see more high performance, in that sense." Buttler accepted that reform will not be an easy process. "There are some players who may only play one format of the game and they want to play as many games as possible in that format, so I can see how it's not straightforward," the 32-year-old continued. "But if you were just looking at a high performance view on it, I think 10 games would be a good number of fixtures." Buttler emphasised the importance of having enough time in between matches to prepare and recover, especially in an era where so much cricket is being played across different formats. The busy schedule was a factor in Test captain Ben Stokes retiring from one-day internationals earlier this year. Buttler made 57 Test appearances for England between 2014 and 2022, but he has not played a first-class match for Lancashire since 2018. "One of the biggest things I found as a challenge in county cricket when I was playing was making sure you had enough days to prepare and go into games feeling like you were completely ready," he said. "In my head it makes quite a lot of sense to aid performance if you can practice properly. That's one area where I've felt like a reduction in games may be able to help that."

Pakistan 142-8 (20 overs) Masood 56, Woakes 3-26, Willey 2-22. England win by 67 runs and win the series 4-3.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/219B/production/_126930680_gettyimages-1429664227.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/11D35/production/_126931037_trophy.jpgDawid Malan thumped an unbeaten 78 to help England to a comprehensive 67-run win over Pakistan in the seventh Twenty20 international to take the series 4-3. Having been asked to bat first in Lahore, England piled on the runs with Malan making Pakistan pay for dropping him on 29 and 62 as he lifted the visitors to 209-3. Harry Brook's fine form continued as he made 46 not out from 29 balls - having been dropped on 24 - in an unbroken stand of 108 with Malan. Babar Azam was responsible for two of those dropped catches and could not atone with the bat, falling to Chris Woakes in the first over of the chase. Reece Topley bowled Mohammad Rizwan two balls later and, with their two in-form openers gone early, Pakistan were unable to recover and limped to 142-8. Woakes took 3-26 and David Willey chipped in with 2-22, also claiming his 50th T20 international wicket. England now head to Australia for a three-match T20 series before starting their T20 World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on 22 October. Meanwhile, Pakistan will travel to New Zealand for a T20 tri-series that also includes Bangladesh.

Wasim Akram: Pakistan great reveals he was addicted to cocaine after his playing career ended..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/AE93/production/_127419644_gettyimages-1801610.jpgFormer Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has revealed he was addicted to cocaine after his playing career ended but quit following the death of his first wife. The legendary fast bowler, 56, took more than 900 international wickets before retiring in 2003. In a new autobiography, Wasim, 56, said he began using cocaine while working as a television pundit around the world. "The culture of fame in south Asia is all consuming, seductive and corrupting," he told the Times. "You can go to 10 parties a night, and some do. And it took its toll on me." His first wife Huma died suddenly in 2009 from a rare fungal infection. "Huma's last selfless, unconscious act was curing me of my drug problem," said Wasim. "That way of life was over, and I have never looked back." After making his international debut in 1984, left-arm quick Wasim played 104 Tests and 356 one-day internationals for Pakistan, winning the 1992 World Cup. He led Pakistan in 25 Tests and 109 ODIs between 1993 and 2000 and is widely regarded as one of the best bowlers of all time. Wasim said he "developed a dependence on cocaine" while he was travelling away from Huma and their two sons, who were living in Manchester. He added: "It started innocuously enough when I was offered a line at a party in England; my use grew steadily more serious, to the point that I felt I needed it to function. "Huma, I know, was often lonely in this time, she would talk of her desire to move to Karachi, to be nearer her parents and siblings. I was reluctant. "Why? Partly because I liked going to Karachi on my own, pretending it was work when it was actually about partying, often for days at a time." He sought help after his late wife discovered his drug use, but said he had a bad experience in a rehab facility in Lahore and fell back into the habit during the 2009 Champions Trophy, where he worked as a pundit. He said the drugs were "a substitute for the adrenaline rush of competition, which I sorely missed" but Huma's death shortly after that tournament spurred him to quit. He has since remarried and has a young daughter with his second wife. Wasim also addressed allegations of match-fixing during his career, again denying any involvement in corruption, In 2000, Pakistan players Saleem Malik and Ata-ur-Rehman were banned for match-fixing. A report into the scandal by Justice Malik Qayyum found Wasim not guilty of match-fixing but did recommend that he be fined and not allowed to captain Pakistan because he refused to cooperate and "cannot be said to be above suspicion". The report said "there has been some evidence to cast doubt on his integrity" but Wasim said he did not read it until he wrote his book. "I knew I was innocent," he added. "Everything was he said, she said, I heard from someone else, Wasim sent a message through someone else. I mean it doesn't even sound right. "It's embarrassing because my kids have grown up and they ask questions."

According to the BBC, it`s the fastest double-century opening stand in Test history. 30 overs.
Zak Crawley's century was the fastest by an England opener, and Ben Duckett's is the third-fastest. Amazing stuff.
