There you go. It's never quite clear cut when it comes to fan behaviour. Which is one reason why Barton should shut up and not get involved Why? The guy protected innocent families about to be attacked and Barton rightly praised him.

If you have a chequered history and trying hard (I assume) to leave that in the past, why bother to get involved...there is no need and no gain. Just concentrate on your job etc. But I suspect he cannot, fatal attraction and all that. Bee to honey...(other analogies are available đ)

Regardless of what happened at The London Stadium, this person did a good deed on the night in question, so why not give him some praise?

Is 'cancel culture' to blame for football's diving and cheating problems? Joey Barton explains why he thinks issues in society have made the sport a game of 'f**nies vs f**nies'..By MAX MATHEWS FOR MAILONLINE.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/06/01/16/71656549-12148947-image-m-40_1685631768103.jpgJoey Barton has railed against 'cancel culture' ruining football in a bizarre social media rant. Speaking after Sevilla's Europa League final victory on penalties against Jose Mourinho's Roma on Wednesday evening, Barton criticised the gamesmanship on show during the match. The clash was fractious throughout, with Mourinho insisting he and his players 'can never lose our dignity' despite the Portuguese waiting for referee Anthony Taylor in the car park to tell him he's a 'f***ing disgrace' after the final whistle. And Barton took to Twitter to claim VAR and issues in society has made the sport a game of 'f**nies vs f**nies'. Replying to Twitter user Lee Wilson's post on a 'pathetic advert for European football', he said: 'Lee that unfortunately is the modern, continental game. Gang of F**nies against a gang of F**nies. 'We are only a couple of steps behind them in EPL btw. Days of men vs men have long sailed. 'VAR and court of public opinion, plus cancel culture changed it all. Time will tell if we're better offâŚ'

I can only assume he's an advocate of call-out culture or he'd look a right d*ck.
From Wiki: Cancel culture is a phrase contemporary to the late 2010s and early 2020s used to refer to a culture in which those who are deemed to have acted or spoken in an unacceptable manner are ostracized, boycotted or shunned. This shunning may extend to social or professional circlesâwhether on social media or in personâwith most high-profile incidents involving celebrities. Those subject to this ostracism are said to have been "cancelled".
The expression "cancel culture" came in circulation in the late 2010s and early 2020s and has mostly negative connotations, often used polemically by self-described advocates for free speech and against censorship. The term "call-out culture" is generally understood to be a more positive framing of the same concept.
Some critics argue that cancel culture has a chilling effect on public discourse, is unproductive, does not bring real social change, causes intolerance, and amounts to cyberbullying. Others argue that calls for "cancellation" are themselves a form of free speech, and that they promote accountability, and give disenfranchised people a voice. Still others question whether cancel culture is an actual phenomenon, arguing that similar forms of boycotting have long existed. While the careers of some public figures have been impacted by boycotts that have been widely described as "cancellation", others have complained of cancellation while continuing their careers as before.
Origins "Call-out culture" has been in use as part of the #MeToo movement. The #MeToo movement encouraged women (and men) to call out their abusers on a forum where the accusations would be heard, especially against very powerful individuals. Additionally, the Black Lives Matter Movement, which seeks to highlight inequalities, racism and discrimination in the black community, repeatedly called out black men being killed by police.

As far as cancel culture Phillip Schofield seems the latest celebrity to suffer.

To be fair to Barton - the main thrust of his initial post is bang on. Cheating (it's not gamemanship, it's cheating) was being called out. Good for him. But then he confuses himself by linking in "VAR and court of public opinion, plus cancel culture". It's almost like he doesn't know when to just shut up and stop making a fool of himself.

Joey Barton has over two months to address some key issues at Bristol Rovers that can be solved in the transfer window.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0677/production/_129755610_shutterstock_editorial_13876175du.jpgJoey Barton hopes Bristol Rovers will have up to five new players when they begin pre-season in the next fortnight. The transfer window officially opens at midnight on Wednesday, June 14th and a flurry of transfer activity is expected to follow. Some clubs have already begun working on deals, and some may have already been completed, but clubs are keeping them under wraps, to avoid any clubs coming in to snatch them from under their noses. Last month, Barton hoped for up to five arrivals, as he aims to get his team together at the Royal Commandos base, where they will have a team building exercise. The 40-year-old wants to build a squad capable of challenging for a play-off spot in League One, but there is a 24-point gap to make up, and a lot of work to be done. With the window now open, we assess what should be the priority for Rovers for the next two months. A new centre-back (s)Lewis Gibson and Jarell Quansah have returned to their parent clubs, and that leaves James Connolly as the only recognised centre -half at the club. Connollyâs first season in League One wasnât amazing by any means, and heâll want to improve on it, but firstly he needs a partner, and some competition. Last season, Barton had various systems and tried playing with three centre-backs, as well as a flat back four. Lewis Gordon did play as a left-sided centre-back in a three, whilst Luca Hoole also played on the opposite side, and Barton sees his future as a centre-back. In the meantime however, defensive reinforcements are needed, and itâll be interesting to see where Barton goes with this. Heâs favoured signing centre-backs which are on the younger side; Gibson (22), Quansah (20), Bobby Thomas (22), and Connor Taylor (21). You can see his thinking in that younger players are open to learning, whilst experienced players may already be set in their ways, but defence was a problem position last season. They shipped 73 goals last year, with only relegated pair trio Accrington Stanley, Forest Green Rovers, and Morecambe, as well as Burton Albion conceding more. Is it time to go a bit older when signing centre-backs? He tried it with Mark Hughes and it didnât work out, whilst he moved on Alfie Kilgour. It has been suggested by BristolLive that James Wilson is set to join, and will undergo a medical after agreeing personal terms. Centre-back is definitely the key area to recruit in, and itâd be good to see a mix of them come in. For the past two seasons, weâve seen fans fall in love with Gibson and Taylor, and so another young player is surely out there. Another strikerRovers need another big man who can offer something different. Josh Coburnâs loan from Middlesbrough can be regarded as a success, despite his goals drying up by January. John Marquis was a good signing, and itâs good to have an experienced forward like him in the squad. Marquis offers that experience, and so there needs to be a player similar to Coburn. Ryan Loft is waiting in the wings, but a big summer is needed from him if he is to be a success at the Memorial Stadium. Some wingers ?
The departure of Harry Anderson, means that there is one less winger at the club. Scott Sinclair and Aaron Collins can play there, but if Barton wants to change things up then signing a winger would be good. Sylvester Jasper joined in September, but quickly returned in October, and from then no one similar to him was brought in. Thereâs two kind of wingers that are needed, ones that can play wing-back, and also others that can play further forward, where they are more or less playing as attackers. A maverickA few members of the Rovers squad can fill this role, but if theyâre needed elsewhere or not up to the task, then a signing may be needed. Rovers need someone who is going to win games on their own and get fans off their feet. Collins did that last season, and played in various roles, but his form did dry up a bit, though that did come during a poor patch of form for the team all round. Antony Evans and Luke McCormick are two other players that could step up to the plate. In the summer of 2022, Rovers fans were begging for Evo to resign, and that he did. He had a respectable campaign last year, but is capable of more. Summer signing McCormick had a disappointing campaign however, but he was affected by a lack of pre-season at AFC Wimbledon, but now with a pre-season under Joey Barton to come, he can make Roversâ efforts to sign him again worthwhile. What the point is trying to get at is perhaps someone of a similar ilk to Elliot Anderson. Anderson in League Two was a cheat code, and you only have to look at someone like Finn Azaz, who was influential in getting Plymouth Argyle promoted. Goalkeeper competitionJames Belshaw is the most popular man at the club, or at least a stronger contender for that acclaim. Heâs one of the nicest players youâll meet, and so it came as a surprise when he was said to have reacted badly to being dropped for Ellery Balcome. Belshaw had a few games in which he made errors in, but he didnât look out of place in the division, but he could do with some competition. It has been suggested Jed Ward could be the player to do that, and academy representation would go a long way with the fans. The 20-year-old however could do with a loan in the National League, having been at Hungerford Town in the National League South last season. Thereâs a few ways Rovers can go, and that could be to recruit someone whoâs been a third choice goalkeeper at some higher league clubs perhaps, or maybe a youngster whoâs been released, and needs a chance. Rovers could always go back to the loan market, but youâd hope that theyâd leave those five spots for outfield players, who can offer some versatility.

Fell asleep reading that crap Just in case you missed it by dozing off....Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton will serve a three-match ground ban at the start of next season after being found guilty by the Football Association over misconduct charges. Barton was charged with three misconduct breaches by the FA following Bristol Rover match against Sheffield Wednesday in April. The 40-year-old was shown a red card during Rovers 2-1 defeat in the League One match. Barton admitted the offences during a hearing. 'The manager admitted his behaviour after being sent off was improper; and that he subsequently used abusive, insulting and improper words towards a match official in both the tunnel and match official's changing room,' an FA statement read. 'An Independent Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a hearing and its written reasons will be published in due course. 'The three match ground ban will apply to first-team competitive fixtures next season.' Barton will be prevented from entering the stadium for Rovers opening three matches. He has also been hit with a ÂŁ3,000 fine. According to Bristol Live, the League One club plan to appeal against the sanction. Barton had criticised the officials following the match over the decision to rule out John Marquis's goal for offside. His red card reportedly followed touchline protests at the decision, having watched the goal back on pitch-side monitors. 'You are reliant on the officials to get major decisions right and, unfortunately, tonight the linesman has had a guess, as they do at the level,' Barton said post-match. 'I was worried when I saw that referee, every time I get him he does something barmy, that ref. 'I'm not really putting that on his toes, the linesman has only got one job to do and it's disappointing when they guess.' Barton was previously given a two-match touchline ban and ÂŁ2,000 fine over his conduct towards a match official when he was Fleetwood Town manager back in 2020. He avoided an FA charge in 2021 over an 'incorrect analogy' having comparing Bristol Rovers' poor performance against Newport County to the Holocaust. Rovers finished in mid-table in their first season back in League One, after Barton had guided the club to promotion the previous year.
