Manchester United have offered to double the wages of Barcelona's 24-year-old Uruguay defender Ronald Araujo, who is not interested in a January move to Bayern Munich. French forward Mathys Tel, 18, has decided to stay at Bayern Munich at least until next summer, despite many clubs enquiring about a loan, including Manchester United.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/1f56/live/678371f0-9456-11ee-91bf-230bfab3fcba.jpgWe asked for your thoughts on Saturday's match between Manchester United and Bournemouth.
Here are some of your comments:
Man Utd fans
Captain: The best thing you can say about United is they were very poor. You cannot blame Ten Hag - he's a brilliant manager. There's no passion, no commitment and no leadership. The Solanke goal was very poor and Onana needs to play better. Win, lose or draw, they're going to get the same amount of wages - it's ridiculous. They don't deserve any trophies playing like this. Steve: Erik has to own this debacle. I go to every game and Reguilon at left-back just didn’t work. Not having Shaw there supporting Garnacho, and no Evans or Varane at left centre-back, was a double negative. Ten Hag does himself and the team no favours by playing Martial. Amrabat is out of his depth and McTominay is only interested in trying to score, so he neglects his defensive duties. Desperate! Reg: Why on earth does Ten Hag persist in playing Martial? He must be the worst centre-forward in the Premier League - he’s lazy, ineffective, loses possession all the time and looks as if he doesn’t care. Why haven’t United sold him already? And why doesn’t Ten Hag make every full-back and winger (especially Antony!) practise crosses to poor old Hojlund?

Manchester United are open to offers for Brazil midfielder Casemiro, 31, former France defender Raphael Varane, 30, and Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek, 26, in January, as well as Martial and Sancho. If Sancho leaves Manchester United in January, Ivory Coast forward Amad Diallo, 21, could replace him in their first-team squad having just returned from injury.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/172c/live/fac41220-68bf-11ee-a305-894244efd71e.jpgTalks are advancing for a deal for Manchester United's Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek, 26, to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan. Getafe are hoping to buy England forward Mason Greenwood, 22, from Manchester United but stand to profit anyway due to a 20% sell-on clause that was inserted in his loan deal to the La Liga club. Premier League scouts from Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool are watching Middlesbrough and England Under-21 midfielder Hayden Hackney, 21, with the expectation he will leave the club next summer.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DB09/production/_132037065_gettyimages-1843520035.jpgManchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to TNT Sports: "We didn't lose it today, that's clear. We had good performance but also we made mistakes. Individual errors. In the end it was not good enough. "Today's performance was very good, we didn't deserve to lose, but we lost the game. "The team did very well. We were very good in defending organisations, very good in the pressing. But we did not take enough benefit from it, that's the truth. But also Bayern is a good team. Even when they are not in the game, they have individual class and just need one moment. Unfortunately that happened. "We know we want to be more consistent. As manager I have to improve the team, I have to guide them and the players have to take the responsibility. We have to do that together. "The players gave everything, you saw the spirit. I have to credit the team, big compliments to the way they worked together, as a team, against a good Bayern side. "You need energy from the bench, especially our front line, the options were limited." Look back on the campaign with regret?: "Not with regret. We didn't make it, but we have to accept it. We have to learn from it. We played some good football in the Champions League. We have to take some good performance into the Premier League. We want to be back [in the Champions League]." On Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw's injuries: "I can't say in this moment. We have to wait 24 hours for an assessment." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/5dcb/live/9c986b70-9942-11ee-b9a7-c91b9dfa91e5.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/30B9/production/_132037421_tenhag.png

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/1f56/live/678371f0-9456-11ee-91bf-230bfab3fcba.jpgGet Involved - What next for Man Utd ?
Steve, Edgworth: No club is entitled to success, just ask Liverpool. The fact is the Premier League is a lot more competitive than 10-15 years ago. All it takes is a few bad transfer windows and/or managerial appointments and all of a sudden a club can be off the pace. Look at Chelsea - £1bn spent and in a relegation battle. The media drama around MUFC and Erik ten Hag is ridiculous. Give the club and manager time once the ownership debacle is resolved and judge them in 12 months' time. SD: I'm still behind Erik ten Hag, as I believe most United fans are, but I have to say things are starting to look a bit ominous for him. I can't see us getting another point before the New Year with a tough run of games and increasing injuries - I was dreading Sunday anyway but I'm genuinely concerned we might get another pasting now with Bruno, Maguire and Shaw on the absence list. The players have no drive, no passion, seemingly no desire to give the fans at least a little bit to get enthusiastic about. It's a shambles on the pitch and the players need to shoulder the blame for once - too many times we've seen this "under the bus" thing happen and it might well happen again soon. Dale, Kettering: No matter how bad Utd's downfall gets, it will never not be funny. Smug fanbase believing they are entitled to a team that wins all the time. Hope Liverpool stuff them again on Sunday and Erik ten Hag just stands, as usual, looking blank on the sidelines!

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/449C/production/_132046571_gossip_varane_getty.jpgManchester United risk losing French defender Raphael Varane, 30, on a free transfer next summer with his contract due to expire a year earlier than originally publicised. Barcelona and other top European clubs are tracking 22-year-old Manchester United and England forward Mason Greenwood, who is currently on a season-long loan at Getafe. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is not at risk of the sack as the club do not want to make any big decisions until the expected sale of 25% of the club to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos group is resolved. However, former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter is being lined up to replace Ten Hag at Manchester United. Ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is also well placed to succeed Ten Hag if the Old Trafford club decide to part ways with the Dutchman. Manchester United's failure to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages has left a £28m hole in their transfer budget and may mean they are more open to listen to offers for 31-year-old Brazil midfielder Casemiro, France striker Anthony Martial, 28, and Varane. Eintracht Frankfurt and Girona are keen on 26-year-old Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek, who wants to leave Manchester United.

Manchester United are struggling to find a buyer for English forward Jadon Sancho, 23, with his reported £350,000-a-week wages believed to be putting teams off the £73m signing. Manchester United are monitoring 27-year-old Stuttgart and Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy, who can leave the German side in January for less than 20m euros (£17.25m). Spanish former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, 33, has once again fuelled speculation of an imminent return to the Premier League with a cryptic social media post. Manchester United will consider sales in January if any deal helps ease their Financial Fair Play concerns and does not unduly weaken manager Erik ten Hag's squad.

Donny van de Beek: Manchester United midfielder set for Eintracht Frankfurt loan deal..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.

Van de Beek has made just six Premier League starts since joining United from Ajax for £35m in September 2020. Manager Erik ten Hag said recently the Netherlands international needed a move to revive his career. It is understood Eintracht will pay a loan fee for the 26-year-old. Before United played Newcastle earlier this month, Ten Hag said: "I can see he has to play for his career and for everything." Van de Beek has made 62 appearances for United across all competitions, scoring twice. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/171C0/production/_132065649_gettyimages-1825442766.jpg

Liverpool 'utterly condemns' damage to Manchester United team bus..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C587/production/_132076505_united3.jpg Fans lined the streets as Manchester United and Liverpool's team buses made their way to Anfield on SundayLiverpool said it "utterly condemns" damage caused to Manchester United's team bus after a bottle was thrown as it made its way to Anfield on Sunday. In a statement, the club said any fans found guilty of throwing objects would face serious consequences. A video posted on social media shows a hand holding a glass bottle, then the word "go" being shouted before it is launched at the window of the coach. Liverpool drew 0-0 with their arch-rivals in the Premier League encounter. "Liverpool Football Club utterly condemns the actions that led to damage being caused to the Manchester United team bus during its arrival at Anfield this afternoon," the statement read. "We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police to fully investigate and identify those responsible. "Any individuals found guilty of this reprehensible behaviour will also face the full force of the club's sanction process." This is not the first instance of an opposition team bus being pelted with objects at an away ground. In 2018, Manchester City's bus was attacked before their Champions League quarter-final with Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield. The Reds apologised and called the behaviour "completely unacceptable". Then in April 2023, Greater Manchester Police launched an investigation after Liverpool's coach was attacked on its journey back from the Etihad Stadium following a league match.

Manchester United football director John Murtough was in Saudi Arabia for transfer talks this month with the club willing to sell England winger Jadon Sancho, 23, French centre-back Raphael Varane, 30, French forward Anthony Martial, 28, and Brazil midfielder Casemiro, 31. But Varane is hopeful Manchester United will trigger the one-year extension in his contract. Barcelona are ready to listen to offers for Brazil winger Raphinha, 27, with Manchester United considering proposing a swap deal involving the former Leeds United player and Sancho. Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth is the Ineos Group's prime choice to assume the role at Manchester United, although they remain open to retaining Murtough.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag wants to keep Varane, who joined the Red Devils from Real in 2021, and Brazil midfielder Casemiro, 31, in the January transfer window. Manchester United are interested in Real Sociedad's Japan winger Takefusa Kubo, 22, as a potential replacement for Brazil winger Antony, 23. Kubo has scored six and provided a further three assists in La Liga this season. German sides Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart are exploring a deal to sign Manchester United and England winger Jadon Sancho, 23. Everton have placed a record £100m price tag on England Under-21 defender Jarrad Branthwaite, 21, amid interest from Manchester United and Tottenham. Tottenham have opened talks to sign 23-year-old Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo in January, with Manchester United also linked with the France international.

Manchester United: Sir Jim Ratcliffe pushing to sign off deal for minority stake in club before Christmas..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B236/production/_132122654_gettyimages-1843312486.jpg Sir Jim Ratcliffe's deal is expected to see significant funds used to upgrade the club's training ground and Old Trafford stadiumManchester United's drawn-out ownership saga could be resolved before Christmas Day. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is eager to get a deal signed off before 25th December which would see his Ineos Group pay around £1.25bn to buy 25% of the club. BBC Sport understands there has been fresh impetus around negotiations this week. It is more than a year since the Glazer family announced they were considering selling the club. However, despite several false dawns, the long-mooted deal for Ratcliffe's Ineos to become minority shareholders has still not been confirmed. It is expected advisers on all sides will work late on Friday, or into the weekend, if necessary providing a positive outcome is still possible before the Christmas break. Once a deal is agreed it will be followed by a six-to-eight week period for the purchase to be signed off by the Premier League. Many at Old Trafford feel the continuing delay is having a negative effect on the club, with most still unsure of Ratcliffe's plans for the football side, nor who is likely to be working for him at Old Trafford, other than trusted Ineos director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/12/22/25bee32f-2901-4d11-9a29-4cfc0080b021.jpgIneos and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani both initially tabled bids of around £5bn for the 20-time English champions. However, neither bidder was willing to reach the Glazer family's valuation, with co-chairs Joel and Avram Glazer both known to be reluctant sellers. Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the process in October, claiming his final bid, thought to be double United's $3.2bn (£2.64bn) stock market valuation, had not met the Glazers' demands. Ratcliffe had already amended his initial plan to buy the Glazers' 69% shareholding and reduced it to a 'majority' stake. But it was only when he reduced it again, to an anticipated 25%, that the potential for an agreement increased.
