The strangeness of warfare. Russia has been using North Korean missiles against Ukraine. But a strange twist of fate... North Korean arms used against Russia. They want the Russians to keep using it. My understanding is that the quality control of the Korean stuff is non-existent. Apparently up to 70% of Korean shells either malfunction, land too short/too long, wear the barrels quicker etc.

Ukraine says it downed 17 Russian drones
Away from Russian territory for a moment, over in Ukraine the country's air force says it shot down 17 out of 23 Russian-launched drones overnight. Russian forces also launched two guided missiles, they add.
The drones were downed over Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Zhytomyr and Zaporizhzhia regions, the air force says.
Infrastructure was damaged in the northern regions of Chernihiv and Zhytomyr, and two homes hit in Mykolaiv in the south - but no casualties were reported.
And in Kyiv, governor Ruslan Kravchenko says debris caused a forest fire which has since been put out.
One Person hurt and buildings damaged in Belgorod, says governor
In the last hour, the governor of Russia's Belgorod region has given more details on the latest Ukrainian attacks. Vyacheslav Gladkov lists a total of 23 drone attacks over the past 24 hours, including:
A drone was shot down over the Alekseevsky urban district where shrapnel damaged seven houses and one outbuilding
Two cars and someone's kitchen burned down as villages and a town in the Belgorod district were hit by shelling and nine drones - although three of the drones were shot down by air defence systems, he says
Eighty-four munitions were fired and there were five drone attacks in the Grayvoronsky urban district, damaging two private houses, a church and an administrative building
One civilian was hurt in the Shebekinsky urban district as a result of a drone attack.
An apartment building, four houses, two trucks and a gas supply line were also damaged in the area

There seems to be a very great quantity of air defence shelters in a lot these areas, is it grown to there makeup in that they are likely to be needed at some time and are built as a matter of habit

Also is it a case where Ukrainian military, after their " western style training" is now bearing fruit in places, now begining to outhink the aggressor, and causing panic reactions on their side... The NATO doctrine says that ground assaults cannot win unless we have air superiority. The Ukes have never had this, which is one of the main reasons their offences have had limited results. We do not know how many F-16's have been delivered, but maybe the Ukes are now in a position where they could have air superiority in a limited area. Where they choose that area to be will be crucial. One of the main reasons the Kursk offensive is successful is that the Ukes have broken through the two main defensive lines of the Russians. Now they are in a mobile situation, which is something the Russians cannot handle due to the structure of their Command & Control. Russian commanders on the ground have to constantly refer decisions upstairs. This delays any action or reaction. Junior commanders in Russia are not trusted, and this goes back to the times of the Revolution. I do not believe the Kursk offensive will run for much longer, nor penetrate much deeper into Russia for one simple reason. Logistics! Amateurs like to talk about strategy, but military experts will talk about logistics (by the way, I am no expert!). The flow of weapons, ammunition, food, water and men are vital. The deeper they go into Russia, the more difficult this becomes. If you check my posts right at the beginning of this thread you will read that I said the Ukes need mobile warfare. The slow, steady, bogged down warfare only suits the Russians with their superior number of weapon systems ie. Artillery and men. I do not know what the strategic objectives of the Kursk attack is meant to achieve, but the Ukes have got to the situation where the Russians are scrambling and are having to make quick decisions on the ground, which is something they are incapable of. The Russians are reacting whereas the Ukes are being Proactive. Interesting times. I agree about logistics,we could name many campaigns which were lost because of poor logistics, communications are essential and were a problem up until relatively recently. Intelligence is also very important and although we have been told that no one can move because of drones or that you can see a cigarette packet in a car park from space the Russians have been caught out by this incursion into their territory the same as the Uke offensive last year didnt seem to know about the depth of the Russian minefields.

Ukraine 'free to use' British weapons on Russian soil - MoD
Ukrainian forces can use British weapons on Russian soil when defending itself, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
An MoD spokesperson says Ukraine has a "clear right of self-defence against Russia's illegal attacks...that does not preclude operations inside Russia".
"We make clear during the gifting process that equipment is to be used in line with international law," they added.
Sir Ben Wallace, the former Conservative defence secretary, has been reported as previously saying that all weapons supplied by the UK, except long-range Storm Shadow missiles, can be used within Russia.
The policy means that anti-tank missiles, artillery, armoured vehicles and other UK weapons could be seen on the Russian battlefield.
But the UK's Storm Shadow missiles will remain off limits for use beyond Ukraine's borders.
Downing Street has previously said these long-range missiles can only be used for conflict within Ukraine's borders.

Ukraine orders evacuation of eastern city as Russian forces advance..by Jamie Whitehead and Barbara Taschichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/6b8d/live/6f4f4c80-5bb9-11ef-8f0f-0577398c3339.jpgUkraine has ordered the evacuation of Pokrovsk, a city in the Donetsk Oblast, as Russian forces approach the region. In a post on Telegram, the head of the city's military administration says it's important residents "don't delay" their evacuation, as Russian troops are "rapidly approaching the outskirts of Pokrovsk". The city was the focus of the highest intensity of fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces yesterday, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In a post on X, President Volodymyr Zelensky said the city was a key focus for defence forces, external, and was one of a number of areas "facing the most intense Russian assaults". Russian attacks on Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region have killed three civilians and injured five more in the last 24 hours, the Reuters news agency reports, citing the region's governor. The area has seen some of the war's heaviest fighting, as Russian forces are advancing towards Pokrovsk, a city in the region. The Russian defence ministry is also claiming its forces have taken control of Serhiivka, a village in the region, according to the the Russian state news agency, TASS.

Times reporting that we may give permission to use the Storm Shadow missiles in Rusdia itself but want Washington's approval first.
Apparently the only item we have restrictions on.
