The Toffees have lost both of their opening Premier League matches and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a cheek injury in Sunday's 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa. "It feels like week 40 of the season going back to the start of last season," Jones told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "You see the teams at this stage of the season - new signings, new managers, new optimism and hope going into the new campaign. "It just feels like it's very much the same at Everton and that's no surprise when you look at the starting XI on Sunday and there's only one new face in there. "Everton continue to make the same mistakes, there is still a void up front and the team looks extremely ropey in defence. "Unfortunately the club and the director of football and whoever else has been making transfer decisions has just not been able to get those players in but it's certainly not a new issue that's for sure."

Che Adams to Everton doesn't make sense..
Mark, Valladolid, Spain: Che Adams' potential move from Southampton to Everton makes very little sense. The Toffee's recruitment has been woeful and Adams won't single-handedly save them from what (early stages, granted) looks to be another relegation fight. Stay at Saints though, and he could make a huge contribution, potentially finding himself in a far better position come the end of the season. Scotland regularly recruit from the Championship, so staying put shouldn't harm his international chances either. Do Everton fans even want him ? ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/EE6C/production/_130663016_shutterstock_editorial_14032674bv.jpg

Everton: Investment talks with MSP Sports Capital collapse..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F7CD/production/_130873436_everton-main.jpg Everton are currently two points above the relegation zoneTalks between cash-strapped Everton and potential investment from MSP Sports Capital have collapsed, in a huge blow to the beleaguered Toffees. The Athletic reported that MSP withdrew its interest after opposition from another of Everton's existing lenders. Everton and New York-based company MSP had reached an agreement over exclusivity in May, which is now over. BBC Sport understands Everton remain in discussions with other parties over potential investment in the club. However, it is not known who or how many parties with whom the Blues are in discussions, because of confidentiality. MSP failed to respond when asked for comment by BBC Sport. Speaking in his pre-match news conference before facing Wolves on Saturday, manager Sean Dyche said: "It doesn't really impact [us] in the sense that I know [what] the realities of the parameters are from a player point of view, signing them and working in the market. "There are so many checks for deals at Premier League clubs or any company and investor - they don't get done in a day or week. That is an ongoing view from the the business side and I don't get involved. "We know we have to work hard in the market, find ways of creating deals because we don't have a pot of gold. I knew that from when I got the job and have been working diligently with [Director of Football] Kevin Thelwell, scouts and various contacts to try and find the right players that can fit in and make us stronger." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/EB31/production/_130890206_msp.jpgSenior figures from MSP Sports Capital attended Everton's 2-1 home defeat by Southampton on 14th JanuaryMSP was believed to be looking for a 25% stake with a preferential share structure, not equity in the club, so would be paid back in interest. They had jumped ahead of fellow American investment group 777 Partners, who had been given access to the "data room" [financial accounts]. However, talks with 777 did not progress as the company was not prepared to pay a "significant" price owing to the debt on the balance sheet - which stood at £141.7m in the latest club accounts. In February, owner Farhad Moshiri told the fans' advisory board the club was "not for sale" but he had been talking to "top investors of real quality". British-Iranian businessman Moshiri has invested more than £750m since 2016, but some supporters are deeply unhappy about his ownership of the club. Toffees fans held protests before some home games last season and called for Moshiri and the board to leave the club. Chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief finance and strategy officer Grant Ingles and non-executive director Graeme Sharp have all since left their boardroom roles, but chairman Bill Kenwright remains in his post. Everton are currently bottom of the Premier League after losing their opening two games without scoring, and face winless Wolves at Goodison Park this weekend. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out of the game after suffering a facial injury and will see a specialist about the issue on Friday, while winger Alex Iwobi has been ruled out for a few weeks with a hamstring problem. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/13773/production/_129813797_everton-flag2.jpg

Everton 0-1 Wolves: Sean Dyche says club 'haven't got pots of gold'..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport at Goodison Park.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8DD7/production/_130911363_dyche-main.jpg Sean Dyche's Everton lie bottom of the table without a point or a goal
The natives are beginning to get restless once more.Following a season in which Everton scraped survival and manager Sean Dyche pleaded for major changes after the final game win over Bournemouth, the situation does not seem to be improving. After Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Wolves, the Toffees are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, failing to gain a point from their opening three matches for the first time in 33 years and without scoring in that opening spell for the first time in their history. "It is very frustrating and as bad as Fulham," said Dyche. "Creating high-quality chances, a generally good performance and a big reaction from the Aston Villa game. We don't score a goal and that is our responsibility. "Everyone talks about strikers... As a team we are creating chances and we cannot find that goal. Their goalkeeper is arguably man of the match but we should be putting the chances in. "It is not a positive when you don't win a game. We played well, should be winning the game and we don't." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12A17/production/_130911367_chermiti.jpgSummer signing Youssef Chermiti came on for his Everton debut against WolvesEverton were the better side for large parts of the contest at Goodison Park but their long-standing issue of failing to find the net bit them once more. Since the start of last season, the Toffees have not found the net in 17 games, with Bournemouth the only side to fare worse with 19. In a match between the two lowest scoring sides of last season, it was visitors Wolves who came out on top. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured again, 20-year-old Lewis Dobbin was given his first senior start but he struggled to make an impact and was replaced by teenage debutant Youssef Chermiti, who made his first appearance in a Blues shirt since joining from Sporting Lisbon. On-loan Arnaut Danjuma looked lively in the final third but without being fully convincing that he is the man to ease their goalscoring burden. Dyche said: "It is a reality, it has been there for a long while. We are trying to correct it in the group and with the players we have signed - and if we can get others in. "People still ask, why haven't we signed two strikers? We haven't got pots of gold, we are trying to construct deals. There are maybe things getting closer but we don't know until they are actually done." Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha said on Final Score: "We have seen Everton be good, bad, indifferent in the Premier League but we have never seen them like this before. "The fact that they have lost their first three games without scoring, the performance they put in away to Villa last week, and now they are losing at home to Wolves who have their own struggles as well. "It's not just those three games, it is the previous two years. The feeling around the place isn't going to be positive because at what point do you give up hope?" ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/2DB5/production/_130910711_onana-index.jpgWith the game heading towards a goalless draw, Sasa Kalajdzic scored Wolves' winner in the 88th minute to spark pandemonium in the away end and fury among the home supporters. There were audible jeers as the referee's whistle blew for full-time, with a number of supporters stomping home having let out a few expletives. One man approached the press box at the end and shouted: "Make sure you all write about how the board have *messed* him (Dyche) again." As far as the supporters are concerned, the team's malaise lies firmly with owner Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright, who have overseen a wretched period and squandered millions in transfers.

Beto: Everton sign Portuguese striker from Udinese..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2C1C/production/_130929211_gettyimages-1646322183.jpg Beto scored 10 goals in 33 Serie A apperances for Udinese last seasonEverton have signed Portuguese striker Beto from Italian side Udinese for a fee reportedly worth up to £30m. The 25-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Goodison Park and becomes their fifth signing of the summer. The 6ft 4in striker scored 10 goals for Udinese last season and bolsters a Toffees team that has yet to find the back of the net this campaign. "It feels good to join Everton," said Beto, who was linked with the club during the January transfer window. "Everton is a big, big club in the Premier League, well respected and has big history. It was easy to make this move. "When a club like Everton tries to buy you in January and then comes again in the summer, you feel like, 'OK, they want me for real', so that made the decision easy for me as well. "My idol, Samuel Eto'o, played here, too, which makes it even more special." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/160B4/production/_130929209_gettyimages-1646325286-1.jpgSean Dyche's side are bottom of the Premier League, having lost their first three games. They play Doncaster Rovers away in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (20:00 BST) before travelling to Sheffield United in the league on Saturday (12:30). "We have been eager to strengthen our striking options to add more attacking quality to our squad and the arrival of Beto gives us that," said manager Dyche. "He has impressed in a top league like Serie A for the past two seasons and scored goals. As a powerful striker who can carry the ball, hold up play, is strong in the air and works hard for the team, he has a lot of attributes that we hope can see him prove to be a success with Everton." Dyche has already brought in Beto's compatriot Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon for £15m and the 19-year-old striker made his debut in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Wolves. The Merseyside club have also signed veteran Ashley Young on a free transfer and forwards Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison on loan.

Here are some of your thoughts:Daire: Any right-winger who can cross the ball. Ever since Anthony Gordon left the club we haven't filled that gap at all and I could see us really struggling in that position. Zach: Getting rid of the dead weight - Keane, Gbamin and Gomes to name a few. Bring in a solid quick centre-back to challenge Tarkowski and Branthwaite. Possibly a left-back - Young and Mykolenko seem a bit of a liability so far. Not saying our attack is where I'd like it to be, but I think there's enough to allow us time to stabilise this season. Stephen: A playmaker in midfield like Gallagher of Chelsea - that would be fantastic. If he was the only signing he would be worth it. Benji: Is Lucas Digne happy at Aston Villa? Do you think he'd fancy coming back? We could really do with his crossing ability now that we have what looks like a somewhat reliable big man through the middle.

Sheffield United 2-2 Everton: How 'massive' Jordan Pickford justified status with crucial triple save..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport at Bramall Lane.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0BBF/production/_130970030_pickford-main.jpg Jordan Pickford became the first Everton goalkeeper to score a Premier League own goal since September 2016 - but had the last word with a crucial triple save
Football is a game of two halves, goes the old adage, and it certainly was for Jordan Pickford at Bramall Lane on Saturday. The Everton goalkeeper was unfortunate to score an own goal in the first half against Sheffield United, but made an incredible triple save in injury time to preserve a point for his team. The 2-2 draw in an entertaining lunchtime game allowed both sides to collect their first point of the campaign, but Sean Dyche's men will be grateful for a huge helping hand from their number one. Pickford told TNT Sports: "I have got to be switched on. I know it was 98 minutes but the manager told us there would be 100-minute games so we never lack concentration. "They got a bit of luck on the second goal, but it is a performance we should have got three points from." Dyche said: "Jordan Pickford makes a brilliant double save and you think about how mad is football. It would have been an injustice [if Everton had lost]." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/59DF/production/_130970032_pickford.jpgPickford gave a grin towards the home fans after his incredible saves in injury time
Jamaica winger Demarai Gray, 27, will stay at Everton, despite an offer from a Saudi Arabian club.

'Pickford will play a huge part in Everton's season'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/9/5/e3ec6fea-1898-4c1a-9ff3-ebd5d0bc26b3.jpgAfter another "box-office" performance from Jordan Pickford against Sheffield United over the weekend, BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club discuss the importance of the England goalkeeper for Everton this season. Former England goalkeeper Rob Green said: "He is a character, we have always said that over the years, but I do feel more than ever this season that, if you look at the spine of Everton's team and who they have got in and around him, you are going to need Jordan Pickford at the back. "You need that character. He exudes that confidence and thrives on that pressure. "I do feel for Everton that he is going to play a huge part in their season and they are going to need him on top form because it is going to be tough as they haven't got a spine in the team that has his experience."

Gray told 'no moves done without club's say-so' by Dyche..ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/9/6/f4679482-4fdb-4e58-a338-d14ae514823e.jpgEverton boss Sean Dyche has reminded wantaway winger Demarai Gray that no moves are sanctioned without the club having the final say. Gray seemed to criticise the Toffees manager on social media last weekend in the wake of a failed switch to fellow Premier League side Fulham. "Everton fans have always been great with me but it's so difficult to play for someone who don't show you respect as a person," Gray wrote on Instagram on Sunday. The 27-year-old has yet to play for Everton this season and has been linked with moves to Turkey or Saudi Arabia. "Demarai told us a move was done, which was interesting to hear," Dyche said. "We reminded him of the truth of the fact that no moves are done without this club's say so. That's the truth of it." Dyche also told the club website that Gray "didn't want to train" and "didn't want to be here" when the move was in the offing. "We said it's not a done deal because this club is the most important," the 52-year-old added. "This club will make decisions on the future of you as players and not the other way around. It's an unfortunate one because I try to keep our business in-house. I think on this occasion, it's right to reply."

Everton takeover news: Farhad Moshiri on verge of sale to American investment firm..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12DBE/production/_131064277_everton-main.jpgPremier League strugglers Everton are close to being sold to Miami-based investment firm 777 Partners. The financially-stricken Toffees resumed discussions with the American company after talks with MSP Sports Capital collapsed in August. The takeover will bring to an end the tumultuous tenure of owner Farhad Moshiri, who first invested in 2016. A source close to Moshiri said Everton have sought investment for a while, but the deal is not yet complete. Sean Dyche's side lie 18th in the league after picking up just one point from their opening four games so far this season. Everton are in disarray both on and off the pitch, narrowly escaping relegation in the last two seasons, including staying up with victory on the final day last term. Next month the club will go before an independent commission for an alleged breach of the Premier League's financial fair play rules, but Everton have denied wrongdoing and said they were "prepared to robustly defend" their position. In March, the club posted financial losses for the fifth successive year, taking their cumulative losses over the past five years to more than £430m. They are also in the process of building a new stadium on Bramley Moore Dock and costs could reach £760m, a £260m increase on figures quoted by the club last year. Everton and 777 did not respond when contacted by BBC Sport. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4746/production/_131064281_moshiri.jpgFarhad Moshiri has invested more than £750m in Everton since 2016

James Garner: 'We have to remain positive..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/9/14/41611012-38a2-41cd-84cc-d8ecf143557a.jpg
Everton midfielder James Garner, speaking to BBC Sport: "Last season it was tough. We managed to stay in the Premier League, which was the goal. "This season, it has not shown in terms of points that we have had a good start, but in our performances against three teams - with the blip against Aston Villa - we created a hell of a lot of chances. "It is just about putting them away. We have to remain positive, don't get too down and stay patient, it will come. "Our squad is definitely strong enough to be middle to top half of the table, that is what I believe. With the lads coming back from injuries and our signings, it only adds to the strong squad we already have. "It is about working together as a whole team with the staff and getting the three points which matters the most." Everton midfielder James Garner on his permanent move to the Toffees:ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/9/14/90f4af8d-04e2-4281-9daa-7b5f49d40894.jpg"When I came back to United, I felt like I had a good enough season to have a shot. But unfortunately I got injured on the first day and it set me back two or three weeks, so the manager did not get to see me in training and games. "It was a decision where - after having two seasons in men's football - I wanted to be part of a team and squad, ideally starting too. I knew I wasn't going to get that at United so I made the decision to move here. "I could have gone on loan again and come back but I felt I would have been in the exact same position I was then. I didn't want to be stuck in the mud, I needed to make a decision to leave one of the best clubs in the world, which was hard, but it is one I am happy I made."

Everton: Club working with police to investigate reported racist abuse of Arsenal player..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/1A92/production/_131220860_gettyimages-1496349899.jpgEverton have said they are working with Merseyside Police to investigate a reported incident of racist abuse directed towards an Arsenal player. It took place 15 minutes into Everton's 1-0 defeat to the Gunners at Goodison Park on Sunday. "Racism has no place in our stadium or our communities," the club said in a statement. Everton said the reported incident happened in the Lower Gwladys Street Stand near to the Bullens Road Stand. "Everton condemn all forms of discrimination and we will seek the strongest possible sanctions to tackle anti-social and/or criminal behaviour, including club bans and criminal prosecution," the club's statement added. In August, Everton said they would support a police investigation into "racist comments" directed towards their Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana. Earlier that month, the club had condemned the social media abuse suffered by French striker Neal Maupay - now on loan at Brentford - following Everton's 1-0 opening-day home loss to Fulham.

Here are some of your comments:
Everton fansJonesy: Poor team selection from Dyche moving Garner out of the centre after two decent performances there. Also, no width! Harrison and Danjuma benched. Gueye often furthest forward! Poor finishing yes, but one dimensional, trying to thread passes through the centre until Harrison came on. Dyche can also change the story by sticking with a winning formula. Blue: Here we go again. Luton came to Goodison looking for their first win. Bring on Everton. It’s always about which Everton turns up - on Saturday the Blues were again dreadful at home. I think Evertonians are again in for a long, nail-biting season. There is no urgency and desire. We needed a win and failed miserably. Danny: There isn’t an Evertonian on the planet who didn’t see that result coming a mile off. Not had a win yet? Coming to Goodison? Don’t worry! We’ve got your back. Season in, season out. Utter drivel supporting this club. Russell: We dominated the majority of the game but we just weren't good enough in the final third. They came at us early on but didn't cause too many problems until they had set-pieces. They took a two-goal lead and defended pretty well, but we had more than enough opportunities to come back. Need to be more clinical with shots. Luton Town fansGary: Thoroughly deserved victory. To a man, they gave their all. We need to do this performance every game. I'm so proud of the team and all the backroom staff. We know it will be a tough campaign, but as long as we give our all, that is all we can ask for. Nathan: Hard work, digging in, you get your rewards. What a performance from the team today. This victory shows all of the hard work over the years and this win is for the fans. Stephen: Garth Crooks - what’s the score? Garth Crooks, Garth Crooks - what’s the score? Dave: Why would Everton be embarrassed? Should they not get beaten by #teamslikeLuton? We are a proper club - top to bottom. Owned and run by fans and with no real debt. Even if we sink, that won’t change. I’m sure Everton would swap that position! Great performance showing guts, determination and whole club togetherness and a deserved three points.

Leeds United, Leicester City and Burnley have written a joint letter to Everton's prospective new owners, 777 Partners, that they intend to sue the club for £300m if they are found guilty of breaking Premier League spending rules. Fresh concerns have been raised over Everton's prospective new owners 777 Partners, after Brazilian side Vasco da Gama, another of their clubs, failed to meet payments on three transfers costing around £4.5m in total. Everton are set to sign a deal with kit manufacturer Castore despite Aston Villa complaining about sweat-heavy shirts that become uncomfortable to wear.

Everton: Chairman Bill Kenwright has cancerous tumour removed from liver..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/D084/production/_131408335_gettyimages-1240777728.jpg Kenwright first joined the Everton board in 1989 and has been chairman for nearly 20 yearsEverton chairman Bill Kenwright has had a cancerous tumour removed from his liver. The club confirmed on Wednesday the operation, carried out six weeks ago, was "completely successful". However, complications meant Kenwright required a "prolonged period in an intensive care unit". "He has returned home to continue his recovery which is expected to be lengthy, but complete," the club said. In September, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri agreed to sell his 94% stake to American investment fund 777 Partners. The club said Kenwright, 78, had "worked hard" alongside Moshiri "right up until the day of the procedure" to help facilitate the proposed takeover. Toffees fans held protests before some home games last season and called for Moshiri and the board to leave the club. Chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief finance and strategy officer Grant Ingles and non-executive director Graeme Sharp have all since left their boardroom roles, but Kenwright remains in his post as chairman. "Mr Kenwright has always been fiercely protective of his private life and is grateful that his privacy has been respected during this difficult time," Everton added. "He hopes this will continue following this update." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/8264/production/_131408333_gettyimages-1458273297.jpg

Liverpool 2-0 Everton: What Sean Dyche said

Everton manager Sean Dyche, speaking to TNT Sports, about the decision not to send off Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate: "My take is it is the bizarre nature of the modern game - how they have got 11 on the pitch at 0-0. No-one in the stadium knows why. "Their manager certainly didn't know because he took off the player straight away because he realised. "It changed the game quite obviously. That's the way it goes. "The whole stadium were like what's going on there? Their manager is a fine judge and thought I'll get him off. That's the proof in itself." On his side's performance: "My group of players have given everything. It's difficult with 10 men in any game, particularly this game. "I thought we did well, to calm the game down and quell it. They took the energy and sting out of the game. "Massive decisions from the officials and I think it's a head-scratcher." "We kept it down to minimal chances of any real quality throughout the game, the second half game plan down to 10 men was working . "But that big decision changes the feel for them. Then they get a penalty and it is very difficult. "But I'm proud of the players' efforts."

Bill Kenwright: Everton chairman and theatre producer dies aged 78..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B14F/production/_131519354_kenwright.jpgEverton chairman Bill Kenwright, an acclaimed West End theatre and film producer, has died at the age of 78. Kenwright had surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his liver eight weeks ago. He had been on the board at Everton since 1989, taking over as chairman at Goodison Park in 2004. The Liverpudlian was also one of the UK's most successful theatre producers and played Gordon Clegg in Coronation Street between 1968 and 2012. Kenwright was awarded a CBE for his services to film and theatre in the 2001 New Years Honours List. Everton said it was "in mourning" following the death of Kenwright, who was the club's longest-serving chairman for more than a century. "The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration," Everton added. On 12th October, the Premier League club said Kenwright had a cancerous tumour removed from his liver six weeks before. Everton said the operation was "completely successful", but complications meant Kenwright required a "prolonged period in an intensive care unit". Announcing his death on Tuesday, Kenwright's family said he "passed away peacefully" on Monday night "surrounded by his family and loved ones". "Bill was driven by his passions and devoted his life to them; his deep love of theatre, film, music and his beloved Everton, and the families they created," the family said. "He impacted the lives of thousands, whether that be through the launching of careers or his unending loyalty, generosity and unfaltering friendship and support." In a multiple award-winning career spanning six decades, Kenwright produced more than 500 West End, Broadway, UK touring and international theatre productions, films and music albums. "We will remember him with huge love and admiration - the shows will of course go on, as he would have wished, and his towering legacy will continue," his family added. Kenwright spent 19 seasons as Everton chairman, overseeing 12 finishes inside the Premier League top eight, including fourth place in 2005, while the Merseyside club were also FA Cup finalists in 2009. However in April an Everton fans' group called for Kenwright to be sacked and said it had "no confidence" in him as chairman with the club fighting against relegation.Kenwright and the rest of the board of directors were unable to attend home games last season from January after what the club described as "threatening correspondence" was received before a game against Southampton.
