The Ashes: Australia v England, fifth Test, Venue: Blundstone Arena, Hobart Date: 14-18 January Time: 04:00 GMT
Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow could play as specialist batters in the final Ashes Test because of injuries, says England captain Joe Root.
Stokes picked up a side strain while bowling early in the fourth Test, and Bairstow was hit on the hand during his first-innings century.
Both batted on the final day in Sydney, to help England earn a draw and avoid a 5-0 series defeat.
"We've got to just see where they're at," said Root.
"We have to see what their bodies can handle and then assess everyone.
"You certainly can pick Ben just as a bat and similarly Jonny as well - he's been playing as a batter anyway."
England will have to make at one least change for the day-night Test, which starts at 04:00 GMT on Friday in Hobart, after Jos Buttler flew home with a broken finger.
Sam Billings, who joined the squad from playing in Australia's Big Bash League, was seen working hard on his wicketkeeping during Wednesday's practice and the 30-year-old is in contention to make his Test debut.

England captain Joe Root wants Chris Silverwood to remain as head coach despite the Ashes defeat in Australia this winter.
Silverwood is back with the squad after missing the drawn fourth Test in Sydney because of Covid-19.
Asked if he would like Silverwood, 46, to remain in charge, Root said: "Yes, I would."
He added: "It was a difficult week for the group of players with him not being around.
"But the performances we put in during the first three games, I feel we've let him and the coaches down to a degree. We've not played anywhere near the level we're capable of."
"He's very calm, he has the respect of the guys and he's got a desperation to see everyone do well or up-skill the players as best he can," Root said
"He's had a very difficult time of it with the environments we've been living in, trying to manage winning matches with bubble environments away from home, and multi-format players trying to prepare for an Ashes and a World Cup.
"For a long time we've not been able to put our best teams out because we've been constantly trying to make sure from a mental wellbeing point of view everyone is looked after properly, because of the schedule we've dealt with over two years."

Iβm not sure what players have been missing from the teams over the past year for him to make that comment. I know Stokes missed much of the summer and Archer has been missing from this tour but Iβm not sure about too many more and certainly not too many batsmen have been missing, apart from those left out by the selectors. Oh well, I suppose that will add to the list of excuses for this tours disasters!

Close of Play Score - Day 1
Australia 241-6 (59.3 overs) - Head 101, Green 74 - Broad & Robinson 2 each.
To compound England's problems, Ollie Robinson bowled only eight overs because of a back spasm.
As part of five changes from the drawn fourth Test in Sydney, Ollie Pope replaced the injured Jonny Bairstow and Rory Burns returned for Haseeb Hameed.
Although Ben Stokes is playing, he is not fit to bowl, leaving a four-man seam attack depleted when Robinson went down.
However, that does not excuse Crawley's momentum-changing drop of Labuschagne, or England's wayward bowling after the first hour.

Good news from Hobart. England 81-4, chasing 303. Should avoid the follow on.

England 188 all out, 4 batsmen got good starts of 25 and over, but what the hell was Burns doing getting run out for 0 - IT IS A TEST MATCH.
Australia did not even require Nathan Lyon to bowl, they start at 115-0 with about 20 overs to go on day 2, they will rack up 500.
Australia have lost Warner for 0, they might win by an innings and he has a pair to his name from 25 balls faced.

Australia are 37-3 which is a lead of 152, we have seen it all before, they struggle, then put on a 150 run stand and blow us away.
We have to bowl them out for 200 max, that will leave us 316 or less to get with plenty of time to win or collapse.

Nobody now should have a mental picture of what she must have looked like, across the back of Jeremy Corbyn`s motorcycle.

271 to win. Bowlers have done their job. Can`t see us getting close to that total though.

43-0 at the moment, but you just know what's coming. Even if a miracle occurs it will still mean that England have not passed 300 runs in any innings this series.
