The draw 8-15, Aus win 6-4, England 40-1. Thunderstorms forecast. Can England conspire to snatch a loss from the jaws of a draw?

Draw or lose. Complete surprise if they won and I doubt they’ll try. Get a draw and move on. Well bowled Jack Leach, economical and got two to straighten up and turn a little for his wickets. Might he leave Australia still waiting on a hat trick if he doesn’t play in Hobart?

To be fair, he was bowling on the 4th day of the Test, against a team trying to hit the ball out of the ground to facilitate an early declaration. Would have been more impressed if he`d done it in the 1st inniongs.

Perhaps, but tbf if they were trying to hit the ball out of the ground they didn’t succeed against him as he bowled with a good economy in both innings. As spin usually kicks in later in the match I thought he bowled well and had the pitch taken spin on the first day it would have been a first for the SCG.

Well done the last few batsmen for getting the draw. At least some determination shown. It’s a pretty low bar but it seems much better and could stand them in good stead for the test match in Hobart. Impressed with Crawleys innings at a very good strike rate for test cricket.

Impressed with Crawleys innings at a very good strike rate for test cricket. Some of his shots square of the wicket, were just dimissive. Stood tall and just swatted the ball to the boundary. Would love to see him do it, in the 1st innings at Hobart. To be fair, just about everybody contributed to the result.
At a stage of the game, when mere occupancy of the crease was as important as scoring runs, even Malan hung around for 40 minuntes for his 4 runs.
Hameed for 88 minutes. Root 131 minutes. Leach 77 minutes. Broad 47 minutes.
To bat for 102 overs was no mean feat. Wish there`d been more like it, in the first three tests.

To have scraped a draw from the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney will have felt like a victory for England.
Nine wickets down in the final over, with last man James Anderson asked to survive - it doesn't come much closer than that.
But Anderson did survive, and for England to halt the Australian juggernaut when the home side were hunting yet another 5-0 clean sweep is no small feat.
No one will be getting carried away or popping the champagne corks. England remain 3-0 down and the Ashes are gone.
However, Joe Root's side could have rolled over in the final two Tests and they have dug deep to ensure that is not the case.
For Anderson to have to shuffle out in the gloom, joining his old mate Stuart Broad, was brilliant drama that only Test cricket can provide.
Every fielder was around the bat, chirping with the comments designed to chip away psychologically at England's resolve.
Yet, England showed some spirit, bottle and backbone. You can't ask for much more than that.
It is just a shame we didn't get such a tense finish when the series was still alive, because that really would have been special.
5th and Final Test is From Friday Jan 14th to Jan 18th (04.00am)
Venue: Blundstone Arena, Hobart.
