My first visit was 88/89 (I think) on a miserable December day , obviously I was a bit more dedicated back then!
My next visit was that wonderful day in 1990, me and my wife were only about a year into our first mortgage and money was tight and I couldn't do the weekend up there, but still plenty of great memories.
Then when our paths crossed again, it seemed like the fixture was played towards the end of every season and I had countless weekends up there and some of the best/funniest times I have ever had with my mates. A million and one stories that can never be repeated on a public forum! One mate does still- literally- carry the scars of one trip though- knocked over by a tram!
I am going this weekend for the first time in years, but just staying the Friday night, if anyone bumps into me, feel free to buy me a pint.
And watch out for those trams.

From a Plymouth mate of mine.
'Rovers won 1-0 in the end after a defensive error by us. Rovers looked well organised and we hardly threatened your goal. I can see us struggling this season, but Rovers could make a challenge for the play offs I think.'
Relegation it is then!

I can't say I normally care about our kit, as long as its blue, but that is actually quite smart.

Well this thread escalated quickly! Didn't it just! I think when the 'serious stuff' discussions were banned it led to the forum being used less and less, so when something like this comes along it gets a bit more feisty! We'll be at 3 pages soon- unheard of!

Must admit i just love to see football kit with no crappy adverts on them, its great. On wider issues we should ban all advertising and the constant demand for increased production, growth etc. As a human race we need to start thinking about saving the planet earth instead of making lots of money. I would quite like to see us play in plain blue shirts and white shorts just like we did 1970 approx until 1973. And watch the modern world as we know it collapse.

I'm no fan of Bamber. Far from it. But anyone who thinks the likes of him or I had it any easier in our day ..... you are the true fools on here. I have no idea how old Bamber is, or how hard his life has been, but when it comes to buying houses, I would say it was an awful lot easier for my generation (I was born in 64) than it is for the current generation.

Tbf we can’t buy houses for the cost of a Party 7, packet of woodbines and a bag of chips any more. Neither could my generation. But we were prepared to do things like use shipping pallets with a mattress as a bed until we found something that we could afford. Try convincing the sort of person who bleats on endlessly about 'how easy' it was back then to hand back all of their luxuries, cook their own food, forget holidays for at least 10 years, do all of the DIY and improvements / repairs that a house needs etc. And yes, I did go several years without seeing a Rovers' game because money was just that tight. No sympathy whatsoever for today's whining entitled snowflakes.Yeah alright, what was the ratio of your salary to your first mortgage? 3/1 ? Good luck getting that now. Sometimes you talk a bit of sense, but using terms like 'whining entitled snowflakes' just makes you seem a bit of a fool. Just my opinion of course

I'd ban betting advertising in the UK, unlike drink and drugs you can feed your addiction while sat on your sofa through your phone. I can't imagine how difficult it would be for a recovering addict to watch football on the TV now. Every second advert is for a betting company, 12/20 Premier League teams are sponsored by betting companies this season and it's even worse in the, wait for it... Sky Bet Championship. The betting industry is here to stay but personally I'd like to see a blanket ban on them being able to advertise. Well I suppose you can't feed drink and drug addictions through your phone, but you can certainly do so sat on your sofa An awful lot of people like to gamble in various forms, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that you will ever make a long term profit doing so, but it does provide a bit of enjoyment for many, it also destroy's SOME peoples lives. Drinking does the same, other drugs do the same. Bambers point about horse racing deaths is a valid one (about 200 a year) , although I would imagine if you eradicate all kinds of harm to animals then we would live in a very different world amd one that probably the majority wouldn't like. I suppose it all comes down to where individuals draw their own personal line.

Me too. I hope not too many people die building football stadiums for your entertainment in the next world cup. Is that the best you've got as a defence for an industry that continues to produce a death in competition every second day? Sat behind that, there are no statistics for deaths outside of competition. I was genuinely shocked when I recently found out the number of horse deaths at racecourses , especially the amount at flat racing. But no , it's not 'the best I've got' , it's just an observation that we live in a cruel, cruel world and those of us that live in the west have a pretty good time of things compared to others.

Betting companies exist to make money, just like any other company. I wouldn't deny it fs some people up, just as alcohol and million and one other things in this life does. I drink, gamble and do a whole host of other things too much, but it's my life and my choice. I will be going racing at Salisbury this weekend and I can pretty much guarantee I will have a good time, win or lose (and ultimately I know I will lose) Hope not too many horses die for your entertainment at the event. Yes we had some half decent technology then. Every nation could fire rockets but where they ended up was anybody's guess. Firing rockets with men inside and landing somewhere with the men still in one piece was never an option back then. As I said before if India and China two of the richest countries in the world can't be asked or are unable to achieve this then something doesn't add up. All the experts say on the BBC etc the reason we haven't landed men on the moon again is due to financial restrictions. India and China don't have any restrictions they just abuse their own to keep their coffers full. Okay, so using your logic … 50 years on from Concorde, how many supersonic passenger airliners have we had? - perhaps Concorde never happened. 50 years on from the Harrier and Pegasus engine, how many vertical take-off and landing jets have we had? - perhaps the Harrier Jump Jet never happened. 50 odd years on from England winning the world cup.....

Would much rather have a corporate logo than take money from a company who make profit from destroying people's lives. Betting isn't for fun or entertainment, it's not a game, the companies exist to take money from people stupid enough to get involved. Even if you do find a way to win, they don't pay. Just ask Phil Ivey. Betting companies exist to make money, just like any other company. I wouldn't deny it f**ks some people up, just as alcohol and million and one other things in this life does. I drink, gamble and do a whole host of other things too much, but it's my life and my choice. I'm slightly disappointed by your answer, I was hoping to hear what you actually thought happened? The ship hid on the far side of the moon whilst it was all filmed in an old brick building just off of the main road in St George. Then the splash down was done with time travel from a point in the future when the technology will exist. But as the capsule landed in the late 1960s the Prime Directive protocol was breached, so blokes in dark suites went around with pen things shining them in people's eyes so that they forgot what they had seen, but it was too late, someone had already posted the event on Twitter in 2017 and it went viral. Come on, Kegs is off on one, why are you trying to reason with him?Ask him how old the earth is and whether it's flat or an orb, that should be good for a larf. Back in the days when people used to go to the pub every night, there would always be some mad old f**ker coming out with conspiracy theories from the JFK assassination, the moon landings and- I kid you not- that the breweries had got together and started to distribute pint glasses that were 1/8th of an inch shorter and were making absolute millions on serving us all 'short' pints. One particular bloke I knew even insisted on inspecting the glass before the barmaid pulled the pint. I genuinely think the strange times we currently live in have been- to quite a large degree- instigated by the fact that the mad old f**kers now have an audience via social media and their opinions are no longer just sniggered at by their fellow drinkers but embraced by fellow mad old f**kers! Anyway, Keg, did you used to drink in the Masons Arms in Stapleton from the early to mid 80s?

Nothing to do with flags waving and no stars. Do you honestly believe we had the technology back in 1969 to achieve this do me a fin favour. The likes of China and India still can't achieve this in 2019 where money is no object for them. Harold Jarman was bombing down the wing in those days and teasmaids (for the older generation ) were considered high tech I rest my case. I'm slightly disappointed by your answer, I was hoping to hear what you actually thought happened?

Mods- I know we are not allowed to go onto 'serious' stuff but could you just indulge on this one for a bit? Come on then Keg, what do you think REALLY happened back in 1969? I'm looking forward to your answer more than you can imagine I'm with Kegs on this one. See those frigging great Saturn 5 rockets, all done by Gerry Andersen. They were actually 9 inches tall and piloted by Aqua Marina. Little known fact. The Apollo 13 mission almost ended in disaster when the Frog Men attempted to sabotage the launch. See, now it all makes sense, I can't believe I didn't see through it meself
