That's harsh! In a past life I actually lived on Sydenham Estate and went to Sydenham Secondary School and it was a delightful place to ...... ...................No your right a gawd awful place and until recently before Cellophane shut down Bildgewater was just a long street with a smell! Well its changed now. A lot to do with Hinkley money I suspect. And the football club has come into money with plans drawn up for a new ground change of name and many other things that will see them probably go from strength to strength. Oh and incidently Bridgwater used to have an extra "E" in its title. Also lots of Gas in the town as well.Think that's more to do with the food and beer consumed there.............

FGR, Newport,Cambridge,Morecambe,Cheltenham could all be playing in a higher Division than us next season.Sercs scored again to promote Cheltenham.Big mistake letting him go. Cheltenham Town, pit of a ground, couple of thousand supporters, now above Bristol Rovers, who are based in a catchment area of a million people with only 2 professional football clubs. Tells you everything you need to know. The warning was there with this complete farce of an experiment when Garner delivered relegation form last season, did Wael learn? Nope, he just doubled down on the mistake by letting the best players go and replacing them with rubbish, then trebbled down on it by refusing to listen to Tisdale when he was told that these players couldn't be taken any further, then quadrupled down on it by bringing in a manager who made the results even worse. How anybody thinks he's suddenly going to swing from that to plotting a calculated route out of the 4th division, well, you tell me. Something similar has happened to 1982, they've had relegation form since they changed their manager this season. Hands up everybody who thinks for 1 second that they'll start the next season with the same bloke in charge, with all of the senior pros gone and with a weaker squad? Think he signed a 3 year contract recently.....will have to see about the rest.

The question then becomes: who next for manager?! Whoever is desperate enough I guess......can’t see a long queue of top notch candidates waiting down the Glos Road for an interview.

Slight tangent. But the spectre of the "European Premier League" is looming again. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54621189The Champions League does need reform. Boring, predictable group games with giants vs minnows don't make enough money. The knock-out part generates interest, but not enough lucrative games. So potentially a more 'league type structure' might work. Just from a financial point of view anyway. Does this effect BRFC? Ultimately yes, as the money gets increasingly concentrated at the top. Thing is I can see a “European League” becoming a bit of a closed shop with little in the way of relegation out of it or promotion into it because that’s what the big clubs will want to protect their money making ventures and it will then soon become another boring, “same old, same old“ Man U v Bayern Munich (insert any big team you like in the fixture list) and then some bright nugget will want another reform. (to what I have no idea!) to make a few more squilions.

What better place to plonk a football stadium than on industrial scrubland? You're guaranteed a Victorian terraced street with a chippy at one end and a pub on t'other to appease the dystopians. Curtains drawn on a Saturday afternoon, empty milk bottles taken in. It may be a soulless bowl but it's our soulless bowl... Do people have milk bottles anymore? But I get the analogy..straight out of a Paul Weller song. Benny Hill most likely.....🤪

A serious question any senior citizens who are thinking of not returning to watch the Gas once crowds are allowed back in ? In fact are there any fans of any age who now are hooked on ifollow and prefer to watch from the comfort of their own home ? Personally, I think it’s not even a question we will have to worry about as I can’t see anyone being allowed into any football match any time soon. Where that leaves this, or any other club, is a question I’m not sure we can answer.

The fact is a person is as dead today as they will be tomorrow through tragic circumstance and we are “smiling” on here because someone did a typo and used some incorrect information. Not sure what there is to smile about really. Geez, this thread is sad, really sad. Any death in these sort of circumstances is nothing short of tragic but I don't think for one-second oldie is smiling at the death of anyone. Quite so Jeff but it just didn’t sit right for me. Maybe just another example of how we need to be careful about what we say, maybe even more so in print as it’s less easily nuanced and probably more easily misunderstood. Blimey, must be bad if I (with the thickest of skins) am getting caught up in all this “Careful what you say” s**te. Anyway...onwards. Regards.

Except he was convicted and given 12 years in jail. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48562834"A former policeman in the US state of Minnesota has been sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison for fatally shooting an unarmed woman who was trying to report a possible crime.
Mohamed Noor shot Justine Ruszczyk Damond as she approached his patrol car to report a possible rape behind her Minneapolis home in July 2017."Made me smile Facts Jeff, gets em every time. Earlier I referred to this era as the "BG Rovers".In my mind (a huge deserted space) ,I was reminded of the Bee Gees. Got any Bee Gees songs/lyrics that suits our "BG Rovers"? “Wing and a Prayer”......sounds about right. 🤪

With the reincorporation of the Farleigh Hungerford salient Wiltshire would be the largest inland county in England. Obtuse? Well, that’s one angle....

Reading between the lines its looking very likely that the fruit market site will be the new home for the Gas. If this turns out to be the case then we are going to need a name. To this aim i have done a little research around the globe: For an very intimadating athmosphere what about the Middelfart Stadium Denmark. Or for a little more 'hands on' how does the w***dorf Stadium (home of young boys) from Swizerland sound. Then we have from the USA , and i can think of someone from the White House who would not be out of place in The Kuntz Stadium Indianaolis. Closer to home a very typically classy response from the UK, which always goes down well, is the Bargain Booze Stadium from Northwich. If we want to remember fondly which strip of land paved the way for our new ground we could go for The Fruit Bowl. Or we could name it after the Boss and go with The Waeladrone. Currently top of the pile and favourite, and also gets my vote is The New Eastville Stadium - Do you agree it is the 'stand up' name or are there any other suggestions? UTG Surely if it was named after The Boss it will be called “Land of Hope and Dreams”...🎸😀

Jolly good. Nothing can go wrong now. Apart from the fact no one can get into a Stadium at the moment......😀😜 (Mind you what the situation might be if/when this ever sees the light of day is no doubt a matter of great debate....🤔)

Thanks for the replies. Stadia (and grounds like we have) are built to get as many paying punters in as possible, to fund professional sport; and as closely as possible, to maximise view, noise, and atmosphere. Social distancing is the exact opposite of stadium (or ground) sport or entertainment. Non-starter is right. Utterly pointless. I don't think sport should resume until we can safely pack out grounds and stadia, as close as we like, without fear of deadly disease. Yeh, but we still will have the deadly fart 💨 to deal with though. 🥵

Agree. How the heck do you enforce social distancing on terraces? Do we all have to stand in one spot and not move...? Do we all have to fill the terrace from one end only so that we don’t close in on other people trying to get to our “spot”along the terrace? So many ifs, buts and maybes its just not feasible in my view. Either we are all vaccinated against it ( in which case wait another season or two) or we all pile in and hope for the best (hmm!). Not sure what could work between those two scenarios tbh. But I’m willing to listen to suggestions.... Yes - it seems like a total non-starter to me too. But, like I say, they are definitely considering this for cricket. I suppose the idea is that County Championship crowds are small anyway while the grounds are quite large which could facilitate social distancing. Of course, most county members are pensioners and so will be self-isolating anyway so I'm not sure it's really been thought through. I do know for certain that it is being discussed though because unlike top level football professional domestic cricket is simply not viable without some form of paid audience. Also most likely asleep as well by lunchtime.....certainly afterwards...🍺

Eh? Do you mean so distanced that only season ticket holders can attend? I think it's been suggested that in order to reduce infection rates/recognise social distancing rules and facilitate contact tracing it is likely that attendance at sporting events will initially only return in a very limited way. In which case the natural solution would be to restrict capacities, enforce social distancing and only allow season ticket holders in. Personally, I think it's pie in the sky because I don't see how even that could be done in a way that would be consistent with any form of social distancing. Not to mention that some clubs would obviously have far more season ticket holders than others etc. But there does seem to be some evidence that sports authorities are thinking along these lines. For example, it has been suggested that County Championship cricket could return in August with Members being allowed to attend the games. Seems like a unique case to me with all kinds of issues in itself but if it goes ahead then I'm sure others will be thinking about how to do this. Agree. How the heck do you enforce social distancing on terraces? Do we all have to stand in one spot and not move...?
