I have put my name forward for this post the elections to be held later this year, but the closing date is the 30th June 2014,so I felt it essential that the current incumbent should be challenged,I believe Brian to be a decent fellow but he is one of the suits, when we need a grass roots supporter who can identify with the hopes and aspirations of the average fan. I attended the Supporters Club E.G.M. last week and spoke on a numbers of issues, what I took away from the meeting was the Directors just don`t get it. I fully support the aims of B.R.I.S.A, I missed the first meeting at the Wellington but will certainly be there next Tuesday. I would welcome the opportunity to speak at the meeting but that would be up to others to judge and decide if appropriate.Presuming my letter is received in good time and my nomination is valid I would then want to garner support over the next few months.I feel it is essential to establish an independent supporters association, but also feel to get a foot in the door we need to use the current vehicle of the Supporters Club to progress matters. What I am clear about is to not involve Darryl Clarke in any of our discussions or deliberations, he is a paid employee of BRFC and his loyalty and support must be to his interests and those of his family and employers. Some of my proposals are as follows: Arrange a summit meeting with the Chairmen of the leading local non-league clubs in our local area, the intention would be to establish much closer links so we can bring the best local talent to Bristol Rovers, similarly sending our youngsters out to the clubs to get regular first team experience. Talk to Yeovil Town about how they managed to reach the Championship on limited resources. Look to fill the Memorial Stadium for the first home game in the Conference, bring in innovative ticketing deals and promotions. Engage the supporters in dialogue on a regular basis. Talk to those people who have a good knowledge of how professional clubs operate, people like Padstow Gas. Bring the scouting system up to standard, find out the costs of establishing a first class set up by speaking with the Manager.Consult with Gashead Wes who has an unparalled knowledge of Non-League players. The Fans Director should be able to give information to the fans and receive ideas and suggestions, acknowledge receipt of the same and report progress or lack of progress. From the Football Club I would expect this. A well run innovative organization that looks to build the fanbase year on year, that has a long term financial strategy to break even within 5 years, the club has always lacked vision and ambition that has to change. The New Stadium must happen so we can challenge our rivals across the river and win the young fans for the future. We need obviously to look to reach for the ultimate prize the Premier League,Wimbledon did it why not us?. A man`s reach should always exceed his grasp. Rod Chapman(aged 60 earlier this month), a supporter for at least 48 years,a Season Ticket Holder,Member of Helpline and a Share Scheme Member. If there are real signs of change and progress once the review is completed and implemented I would be happy to withdraw, but I anticipate a tough battle ahead to get the club back where it belongs and a lot of our hopes rest on the young shoulders of Darryl Clarke.

Fair play to you for having the balls to stand up and be counted Rod. I will happily join the SC again if it means I can vote for someone with the kind of agenda that you have outlined and hopefully others would consider it too.
My previous SC subscription lapsed many years ago but I was a share scheme member back in the day. The only issue for me will be if they allow votes from members not actually at the meeting - as I wouldn't be able to attend in person. If memory serves the voting system in years gone by has bee a bit *ahem* dated if you know what I mean.
Good luck with it Rod and I hope others can get behind you as well as supporting BRISA and any other fans groups that might help improve the way that the club is run. Plenty of ways to skin a cat after all.

I also attended the SC EGM last week and my personal opinion on the meeting is very different than yours ..... I don't understand why you say 'the Directors don't get it' this could be construed as misleading as there were only a couple in attendance together with the Manager and Chairman, and I see everything you say as virtually mirroring everything that was discussed and addressed, but as I said that is my view and I wish you luck in your endeavour - UTG

I really don't know what you mean saying BSS "is one of the suits" and not a "grass roots supporter". I beg to disagree.Say what you want about the man,but he is always out and about talking to the fans on match days. And what is a "grass roots" supporter?

Sadly there is no way that you will be allowed within a million miles of the Boardroom. They will see to that.

Good luck to you Rod...hope you succeed.I also agree with bs10er though, so if you were elected I'd hope that the board would make BSS a director and have the balls to maximize his skills and contacts in PR and marketing.

That might well be the situation but it will send a very clear message to the Board; and if as predicted it is blocked, it sends an extremely clear message back to the fans. They will need to be very careful.

Good luck to you if you decide to stand but I do suspect that if you get elected you will find that things are not as they seem from the outside.
Brian may come across as a suit but that is because he has realised that the most effective way of getting things done is from the inside . If you try to be too different then you end up setting yourself apart from everyone else and isolating yourself - a quick recipe to disaster.
It would be interesting to hear from Brian just what being a fans director entails - how much work he does, what kind of work and does he enjoy it? He may be happy for someone else to take over and give you a complete run down on the plusses and minusses.
I think that you will be surprised

Good on you Rod. I'll join & you'll get my vote. Let's see who else will unfortunately though Rod too many from the old AF will complain all day long about KM & BSS but I fear actually joining the SC & voting will involve far too much effort for them (it certainly was every year when the SC AGM came around).

Maybe that's because the old AF was mainly populated by folk who'd already been there, done that, and discovered the futility of the exercise. Good luck to anyone who does put themselves forward. I take my hat off to them and I genuinely hope it will send a clear message to the board. First hurdle will be getting past the old guard supporters - there are plenty out there. Edit: Misread the post - saw it as comment on folk not standing for election. As for joining the SC and voting - if doing so now would entitle people to vote this year (I've no time to check whether you had to be a member last year, as used to be the case for attending the AGM), then I hope plenty make sure they do.

Thanks for your comments perhaps I should clarify for all of the above posters,I mentioned in my post that I regard Brian as a decent chap which I do and not in a patronising way either, and I have no wish to rubbish him in any way,he is always available to speak to fans on a regular basis on match days similarly through social media. It is a shame that BSS is first up for re-election and not Ken Masters. To my way of thinking Brian may be seen as part of the establishment,a grass roots supporter what does that mean? who knows an average fan?, I do not see the post of Fans Director as an opportunity to hobnob with those in charge,I see it as a chance for the fans to have an alternative or independent voice in the boardroom,I want to serve the club and see it flourish.I do see the directors in large part working for the best interests of the club, what I don`t see is any clear plan in place to rectify the mess we find ourselves in. I repeat the best method of bringing change about in the short term is through the Supporters Club,we need as many people as possible to pay their £9.00 and join up,I will be at the Wellington next Tuesday and will make myself known so I will be quite happy to speak to anyone on these matters.I await to see if my application to stand is approved, and I have put my name forward reluctantly but time is short and doing nothing is not an option.
