Going to be a long hard season if Harrison continues to be on the pitch, plus a lack of signing a top quality striker and a quality wide player will mean more crazy team selections like Stuart Sinclair playing as wide forward in a front 3, and more weak attacking performances that lack any cutting edge.

It's 45 mins on a train from Filton Abbey Wood to Cardiff, takes longer than that to drive up Filton Avenue from Abbey Wood to The Mem on a matchday!!

Um rebuild means moving out, for how long? I see no reason why the rebuild couldn't be done in 14 months say April 2018 to June 2019, which would obviously mean spending 1 season elsewhere, which i appreciate is not perfect but 1 season of inconvenience would be worth it when we are all sat in a decent proper stadium. The issue would be where would we go, i think that we have outgrown any chance of going to Cheltenham or Yeovil, a move to BS3 would be inappropriate, leaving Swindon or Cardiff as the only realistic options.

Would be disappointed if the Mem were re-developed. However, at this moment, there is no other game in town (or out of town for that matter!). I wouldn't - it's the best location by far, and apart from there being sufficient funds to rebuild it, plus planning issues, I couldn't think of any option I'd rather go for, short of demolishing IKEA and going back to Eastville. Agreed, the Mem IMO is the only option and not just that but the most sensible option. There is no reason why the student accommodation idea couldn't be turned into hotels to provide non matchday income, the capacity would be more than adequate at 16k with plenty of high quality hospitality built into the design of the stadium to provide more revenue streams. If like Hamer says the funding is there, a rebuild should be a walk in the park as the costs wouldn't be on the same scale as purchasing land somewhere, a whole new planning phase plus the build costs. As DS own the Mem that reduces the cost straight away, plus the Mem is probably located in the most prime spot in Bristol outside of Clifton. 15 years ago, I lived for 6 months in London, 5 mins walk from Loftus Road, people talking about there being a lack of space should go visit there, they get by just fine, the majority of people will need to learn to use Public transport rather than keep bringing there cars in for games, although i don't think an increase of 5k in capacity will cause total chaos. I really hope we don't have months of non activity now, DS and Hamer can't hide behind UWE anymore, they are now in full control of delivering a proper rebuild of the Mem.

Where has all this bad deal bollocks come from? Contracts were due to be signed and exchanged, the deal wouldn't have got to such an advanced stage if it was a bad one. I see the cheerleaders for the new regime are still out in force.

Completely unforgivable that this has taken 18 months to resolve. The reaction has been hilarious, fans full of hope and optimism when UWE was in the pipeline, fans full of hope and optimism now UWE is off, you couldn't make this sh*t up. 11pm announcement aswell, who are they trying to fool, the statement is just another wishlist, shame so many will be taken in by it.

Broadbent is a replacement for Hartley. DC won't go into the season with 1 left footed centre back. Hope you're right mate - but not confident about this. Conference Season 14/15 - McChrystal & Parkes League 2 Season 15/16 - McChrystal & Parkes League 1 Season 16/17 - McChrystal, Hartley, JCS & Sweeney DC said in his radio bristol interview he wanted a left footed centre back, Hartley didn't leave the club until 6 weeks after that interview, so DC obviously was looking for a left footed centre back to join Hartley not instead of Hartley, still means we are in the market for another left footer, i wouldn't be surprised to see JCS or Sweeney back.

DC will want 4 centre backs, 2 right footers (Lockyer & Burn), and 2 left footers (Broadbent & possibly Sweeney or JCS). The reports on Broadbent have been very positive, i heard from a training ground source that he's a great character and has fitted in well with the group. I've also heard very good reports on the huge Aussie lad Lewis Hall, DC is in the market for a defensive midfielder and Hall would be a good fit.

Yet another poster who doesn't understand you can sign free agents before the 1st July. Don't feed the troll. Your right, i wasn't going to reply to him with an obvious answer but thought it needed saying.

1 week on and still nothing. One player in, 9 more to go with just a few days to go before pre season training starts, i know it's tradition for the club to pull the shutters down over the summer, but what the feck has been going on for the last 9 weeks, i thought DC got married and wanted the summer off last year? Posted bwfore transfer window officially opens, priceless. Yet another poster who doesn't understand you can sign free agents before the 1st July.

The only time we will probably be on TV and they schedule it for the international weekend. Wouldn't be surprised if it gets called off.

One for the U'23s i think, provide some competition for Kieran Hodges. The U'23s seem to have no problems signing players, 3 defenders already signed up this summer for them.

Vital Football is reporting: Bristol Rovers have today had bids for Peterborough United striker Luke James and Tom Nichols [rejected.]
Luke James spent last season on loan with Rovers but failed to find to find the back of net. He played a bit part during the first half of the season but was a regular in the second half after Matty Taylor left.
Nichols has only been with Peterborough for just over a season after signing from Exeter City. Last season he made 51 appearances and scored 13 times.
Luke James!!! Time to adjust my forecast and hopes for next season, me thinks. If James is a target I hope we miss it as many times as he did last year. This summer is becoming an embarrassment. The news of Ellis contract followed by the fact we are bidding for Luke James means next seasons strikeforce will be the same one we finished last season with, which was one was the worst i can remember since i watched my first match in 1995. There has to be serious question marks about either the budget, or DC's ability to recruit decent players.

The OP is right to be nervous, too many seem to have a flippant attitude towards the lack of signings, but then again ever since the new regime came in, questioning anything has been viewed as a heinous crime. DC was clear that he wanted '10 or 11 new players', people need to stop taking contracts ending on the 30th June so literally. Players who have contracts ending on the 30th June have been told 7 weeks ago they were being released, and are free to sign new deals with other clubs, hundreds of these signings have already been made and already announced. If we were only in the market for 3 or 4 new signings then i could understand the lack of transfer business, especially when loan deals are done towards the end of July & August. But a large number of those 10 or 11 new signings will be free agents, and at least 75% of them have signed themselves up with other clubs. Another thing i cannot understand is why we are starting pre season training so late, i understand the usual 1 day of fitness testing is taking place on Friday 30th, followed by the proper first day back on 3rd July. Why do the players need 9 weeks off?! It seems like an excessive amount of time, especially when most clubs are already back in this week. Do you really think that, WestcountryGas, about questioning? The op has questioned, and I don't think anyone considers it a heinous crime? The whole point of a forum is to question, isn't it? ...as long as it can be accepted there may be a different opinion. Onto your comments which I somewhat agree, but you surely can see, that to announce anything before contract has expired can be wholly inappropriate. I'm sure there are informal talks all the time - there certainly are in most other trades - so this next 6/7 weeks will show more movement for every club, albeit some of the negotiations are probably taking place same time, while you read this message! I'm talking about the unwritten rule that the majority follow which is you must never question or be negative towards anything the club does since Feb 2016. I'm glad Jeff mentioned his concern about the lack of signings, i was considering starting a thread saying the same thing, but I've lost my tin hat, so better a more respected poster asked rather than me. You do realise than over a hundred transfers have gone through in the last 8 weeks of players who contracts haven't expired yet, so not sure why on earth you think it would wholly inappropriate that they be announced, it's standard practice that players who know they are leaving a club sign contracts with clubs before the 30th June. Apologies to Seth who obviously has issues with the word flippant.

Sweeney from the original 10 man shopping list, and Jon Guthrie to replace Hartley would be a decent bit of business.
