Dwane Sports is disappointed to announce that its discussions with UWE regarding a potential stadium development for the Club have been brought to a close as the parties were unable to agree acceptable terms.
We will now immediately turn our attention to exploring all other opportunities for a new stadium or for a substantive redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium, whilst at the same time continuing to develop the new Colony training ground.
We would like to thank the Club's supporters for your continuing patience as we continue to work on this very important project.

I don't suppose there's anything else to say at this stage.

from someone on the other site....
I've known Chris Brown for the best part of 50 years, and he is not into bullsh*t. He has stated what was told to him and sadly it matches what I have heard over the last week or so.
For some time now, Hani has had the contract to complete on the stadium, and I'm talking weeks. For whatever reason, he has just not signed it.
Whichever way the truth now is, one thing is for sure. The club will now have to issue a statement clarifying what is going on from their point of view.

COULD be a blessing in disguise. If Project UWE had taken this long and got nowhere, that may be a bad omen we just dodged. Would developing the Mem and building on the ground we know and love really be such a bad idea? I have faith in Wael to make the right move from here - an 18k capacity new look Mem with safe standing Blackthorn Terrace sounds good to me.

FWIW I still think Wael is 100% committed. But so was Nick Higgs...

Onwards and upwards eh? not necessarily is my view I think Wael owes (a word which some might find presumptious, I think) us a bit more than he's stated so far. He's got a lot of credit so far, but I for one want some more talk at the moment

I don't suppose there's anything else to say at this stage. Perhaps an explanation about why the chairman lied to supporters to say there was a plan B, seems clear that there is no plan B, I have believed all along that this group of people are different to Higgs, 18 months of talk that ends in nothing, f*** showing any faith in these now, trust has gone for me. Had me fooled that he knew what he was doing, just put the club back another 5 f***ing years.

This club has moved forward more off the pitch in 18 months than it has since...? Who knows. I would be amazed if the bad deal didn't have something to do with the team that took us to court multiple times and took out some loans. Clean slate I guess.

I'm relaxed and had sort of discounted this - if there were a deal there, it would have been made a long time ago. It would be great to hear the principles of it all, but the main thing is what happens next. I hope they give us some sort of idea about their thinking in the not too distant, but in the meantime, hey ho.

And no better for the fact that it was communicated before the announcement was made

What fantastic news to announce a few days before the start of the season! Hamer gave an August deadline and an update has been communicated to be fair. I'd rather the bad news was stated now, with a couple of days for people to vent before the season starts, than afterwards.

Tonight's statement was clearly a stop gap, once it was clear that the cat had escaped the bag. Not owning the land we wanted to build on and not being able to negotiate favourable terms has finally (and to many, not surprisingly) killed the UWE stadium off. Where next I wonder? Unless a land purchase is in the pipeline, we could be looking at the Mem again. Without the student accommodation, we could probably fit in a 20,000 capacity stadium. Downsides include needing to get planning permission again, and with average attendances around 75% of capacity, rebuilding one side at a time would be difficult/impossible. Cheltenham anyone?

How long now, another 5 10 year pipe dream to hope for? I just don't understand why so many people are relaxed about this.

The statement on both the site and Wael's feeds are actually quite positive for me given the 'rumours' earlier this eve. As I say, clean slate for the new ownership. A setback, but then none of us knew the deal on the table.

We coped 'one-sided' before and could do again. The bigger obstacle is a lack of money to build it, same as it ever was.

Not with an average attendance of over 9,000, but I take your point about the money.
